got about 28table+chairs serving 108 dwarves and that is including private diners for the nobs and excluding any non-designated feature tables or chairs in rooms or those in offices.

I plan on a huge banquetting hall though that will be able to seat all of them, it will be in the central isle of my obsidian cathedral flanked by the rows of coffins and statues honouring those that fell for the greater glory of the "gnawing the black bones of creation".
I hope to finish it before all coffins designated for the 7 primarchs are occupied. :/

edit: Did that city include more than one Z-level?

or did it really move as a creature at the site itself to get to land?
I didn't think the owned wagon could move.
And your dwarves must have had some swimming skills.

Took me a while to dig up this adamantized thread... but it's still my fav. :D

I recently had a small 'mishap' with a classic windmill I was constructing,
it had 3 doors at the lowest floor and was fully enclosed, when a piece of masonry fell down
due to some misunderstanding in the construction plans
 (...Noo! It needs to be alunite, you! Undo this NOW!)
The pleasant surprise was that the 3 doors were blown from their frames by the blast!

As a bonus crushing the newly arrived tax-dwarf noble who was just passing by to inspect the farms.

I was wondering about "dwarfpower"...

I know for a fact that screwpumps transmit power,
secondly I know dwarves can actively work them by hand.
Does this mean pumps can be used as a temporary stand-in for an eventual treadwheel that might be implemented in the future mechanisms arc? (read as suggestion!)
I suspect though that a dwarf inputs just enough power to work the pump, leaving no excess to be employed elsewhere by transmission, no matter how undwarvenly strong he/she may be.

...hmm my clothesmakerperson has just gone secretive and has hoarded :
3bolts of red ropereed cloth, one bar of iron one log of highwood, two rough purple spinells, a turtleshell and two almondines.
I wonder what sort of usefull object is secretly coming into being here.
Behold! it is "Imush_sed" a ropereed bag!
worth 120600monies.
encrusted with almondine. studded with iron and decorated with turtleshell and highwood. adorned with hanging rings of ropereed and menaces with spikes of ropereed and purple spinell.
On it is an image of a goblinbone door in ropereed. an image of a bat in purple spinel and finally an image of dwarves in almondine, they appear to be travelling.

I'm particularly loooking forward to the inverse way coasts are handled (water cutting INTO neighbouring tiles instead of land encroaching upon seatiles) It should make some sort of lowland/landreclaiming scenario possible. :D

I just got a nice artifact from a possesed fisherman, it has bands, spikes and images of other useless artifact created earlier. It was produced during the largest goblin siege so far (2 squads of spearmen, one archers all lead by crosbow elites and a squad of trolls) (turned out I was intimidated for nothing) and the arrival of the nobility (yay we are a barony with lots of copper coins).

Oh yeah artifact:
Rashtinthad Recus Volal "Diedtheater the thirst of whiteness" a goblin bone door.
275 wth, 81600monies.
ACIOTHQ, encircled with bands of elephant bone, Demantoid and Palm.
menaces with spikes of goblinbone. on the item is an image of skull totems in copper and an image of a steel amulet in Demantoid.

the amulet "Limnanges" incidentally has a image of my legendary pigtail bag on it.

I feel the ewly arived hammerer will like this door alot.

(asidenote: my fortress suffers from a multitude of useless artifacts. a copper table (nice) a towercap cup, obsidian weaponrack, copper platemail (yay!), palm puzzlebox, pigtail bag, willow amulet, right iron gaundlet, steel amulet, goblinbone door)

Have thought about this sort of mechanism too.  :)

I disagree with Deragon on the recoil issue, I can see these kind of mecanisms well suited for huge moving fortress bulkheads/doors. that kind of use requires a two-state object, like bridges (Up/Down, extended/retracted)

Moving stuff with them would be great, esp. fluids.

as for crushing: I'd say: if it can be moved and something blocks it, it is smashed against it, if it survives it is not crushed and the ramrod halted...
but only for one step, next step the rod tries again and again and again untill the thing is dead moved away or destroyed. (or the obstruction is destroyed)

Yep me too, it is no accident I've been lobbying for more player influence on WG. :D

I've currently got 9 regions crowding my disc...only 5 have seen any actual play.
I tend to delete worlds that do not meet my standards though...so these are just the last batch.

Tried to get the WG to gen me a world with oceans or some other seriously extreme shit, before realising that these were neatly culled by WG bedfore reaching worldhood.

Next version changes are gonna be so much fun!!
(selectable water level, islands, smoothed hills etc.)


I have a swamp map with two streams meeting another. One is about 7 levels up from the other 3 which are in a deep gorge only in a corner of the map does the river reach level ground. excessive ponds screw up the beaty of it though.

on the subject: Has anyone seen a location with a brook/stream/river with small falls across it's length. I'd love that in a nice temperate area, but so far all i've seen are either deep gorges or steep falls of multiple levels, not so much gradual declines.

What will 'power' the spaceship? 

I'm guessing steam, twin tanks of water/magma, that are combined at the bussiness end?
(i'm concerned about preventing clogging the nozzle with the resulting obsidian though)
build it above a chasm to have unexhaustable disposal.
...water will have to be dropped on top of falling magma I guess...
or maybe a detonation-pulse drive with bauxite hatches (+raised grilles for steam) to dump the obsidian.
...wait! Is it at all possible to detain an immortal fire-funstuffer inside the drive-unit? just add water for steam.
Nobody said spacetravel was safe. ;)

built under sea-level and dependent on sluicegates and windmills.
an aquifier is a must, but have a good supply of stone for the sea-fortifications and buildings.

a farming community somewhere inland under a huge tree on a hill.
