without task manager? i do not see why, all pc has it (or kill command on linux if you use that)
but on the other hand do not stress about it, if you scruw up too much just make a new fort, that is a good way to learn too.

for armor/weapon it would be bad... for shield i think they are used to block (wich action get the bonus from artifact) they are ligthweith so easy to carry, but also do less blundt damage if used to hit ... i think altogether it's worth it if used with a main waepon ...make ‼Science‼ and tell us ;)

I've just got in to the game recently and i find it really fun, if there will be a restart soon i migth be interested joining a DF empire... depending how it will be ...

nice images nop, i feel your lighting a bit harsh on the edges, reflected secondary ligth seems completly ignored and the perception wise the degrading should be slower on the dark ends as our eyes work more that way so it would give it a more real-like feeling ...
Meph, i do not think this thread was addet to be merged with DF and even if there migth ghave been such intention we all know it wont happen, (for gameplay wise it is better to not have lighting in my opignon for fortress mode anyway) but it is still a nice study of ligthning transmissions in squerical spaces ...

I had to make those 6 go evenly into 100 (100%)
i know six castes as peon/horse(knigth)/runner(bishop)/tower(rock)/king/queen, and for the 100% ... just a hint, popnumbers do not need to add up to 100, any somme is ok, and proportion will be adjusted.
For the massive dayout events, i know it is hard i myself had really hard time making something livable, breading able pop ratios; no food; too short to breed lifespawn tend to wipe out civilisations, while too strong and too much breeding wipes out other civilisations ... really hard to balance ... you should look to legends to see why one dies out to slowly find middle paths.
keep up however you mod great! most of us never got something as close to finish (i have modded countless hours mostly in earlyer DFs but never got much publicable)

Nice ideas especialy the chess one, however why have you made popratios to be 1:3:9 ? normaly in chess you would have more 1:2:8 popratio, and as an other question do they survive your chess-civilisations (i had hard time myself to make so few gender containing creaturs bread enougth to survive worldgen) ?

normal dwarfs put party/marriage/break/eating/sleaping/drinking/another party/a second breac/anything else
above trade, so you migth find yourself with a dedicated (really, he is not) broker to miss a trade caravan or two :D

for the clothing problem let me present what worked for me:
1) have a pig tail/rope reed farm
2) make a job weaving it to cloth
3) make a job for each type of coverage needed.
4) make a stockpile => quantum stockpile  to take those AND only let them take from workshop
5) use DF hack to set 2) and 3) on repeat if less then 100
6) trade away tattered cloth (never need anything else to trade but a lot of selecting)
 OR
 make a garbage/cloth stockpile take from anywhere (wich will let them rot away and wont take from the workshop as that is linked)

OPTIONAL:
throw in dying in the chain or more cloth varity

FINAL:
Never ever need to check again. works with other needs too, requires a bit of setup but it is the best option if you do not want to focalise your play on mundane problems of your dwarves.
DFHack can be used/considered as a cheat, but if you do not want to use it as a cheat it can still take of much of the pain of fortress managing, wich makes it almost essencial for me to play. Just be sure to know where to stop using it so it will not ruin your game experience and don't forget you play for your amusement not to prove yourself to others.

the biggest 3D Maze, or if i feel geeky i would make a cart-pump computer so my dwarfs can platy HC (human citys) in theire fortress ...

Yes, you need separate Routes for each cart. Routes may be identical.

Question is:  Do dorfs need to push or guide carts to operate your system?  Most powered logic systems only require the cart be placed onto the track via a route with a single stop. Then the cart is forbidden and the route deleted. The cart continues to function however the logic circuit dictates - it's forbidden so nobody will touch it.

You know some people use minecarts to transport things ...

well i did not tried your mod, but i watched over the raws, and as a first impression:
-plants names are ok, but i would avoid characters like ' as you migth not know what tile it will make for other players (depends tileset)
(i also did not liked some of the exotic names but it is up to personale preference ... i just do not like names which do not relate to something in my head as "klathmandu" => how would i know it is for color of amethys, when i see it in game ?)
-some of the plants seem to be aboundant in acces (for example crimson flare everywhere not freezing)
and in the meanwhile it has a really high use-value (dye / brew /  edible raw) and high material value ( material value of 50 for a dye? don't forget it will be multiplied by a hidden quality modifier ! )
=> so you migth consider some balance. (i would go with vanillia like values/balance => high value -> rare; low value -> aboundant; limited uses for dye plants; and more uses for the others plants...)
But hey it is your mod so make as you please, this was only my opignon on the subject, do not under any circunstamces take it bad.

If you want to call it cheating, where does "cheating" begin?  Does it start when you change the Raws so wolves can be war animals?  Does it start when you load an old save when your fort collapses?  Does it start when you use Dwarf Therapist instead of the in-game interface?
For the record i've seen someone saying he would not change the d_init options as he considered it cheating :D. I found it silly and ignorant point of view but hay,  it is a single player game ... everybody plays it as he intends to ... even if it involves a self-inducted feeling of superiority of "I am HC player, more than others" .. if they are feeling better from those strange idees why not let them ?

a sligthly related question, does workflow plugin works with costum workshops? if not how can you modify it (i have found nothing but a dll in my DF and that migth be hard to edit) ?

i used tilesets at the begining but now i prefere ascii, what it improved for me is that textes are much more reedable with ascii, and if you become used to it, it is as much readable as tilesets for the images. Hovewer i like to use graphic sets, but the ones wich don't shift everything all around, prefer the ones adjusting tiles for creatures to be more distinguistable (CLA's i have in mind but there migth be others)
as for the " Tilesets are considered "for pussies"? " i would say no, DF has a really friendly comunity where no one will mind however you play ... it migth be the advantage of having a game with no competitive value and no winning posibilities => so no need for "i have the biggest" competitions ...
