After the dwarf remains are buried Lucy ushers the party onwards. After perhaps an hour of trekking a sinister silhouette can be made out, a dark shadow among the mist. As the party presses on the forest starts thinning out, improving visibility. Soon enough the silhouette becomes readily visible and is is revealed to be the tower.

Although still a little way off the tower is a clearly imposing structure, towering high above even the eldest of few trees remaining in this grove. The walls of the tower seem to be made of some otherworldly material, whose smooth surface sparkles like dew pierced by rays of the morning sun. Sometimes the whole structure appears to shuffle and readjust but only when it’s just out of the corner of the eye, and if looked upon again all the pieces settle back to exactly where they should be, with perhaps only the odd corner or crevice somewhat imperceptibly out of place.

((The party has advanced onto the next tile on the overworld map. The tower is within reach.))

Look for drugs, man plants with medicinal properties.

Despite searching every cranny a useful plant could be growing Doctor Doak is unable to locate any.

She then loots the dwarf for any valuable stuff.

The dwarf has been reduced to a consistency greatly resembling that of minced meat. If the party makes the appropriate effort to scoop up every remaining flesh and gristle, and simmer the remains appropriately, it might result in a stew of passable taste for a cannibalistic connoisseur. Moral dilemmas aside, the deceased dwarf leaves nothing of value behind.

Doctor Doak peruses the clearing for some alchemy ingredients.

She then went to Doak to ask what he's roaming about for, and helps him find alchemical ingredients.

The previous party drops have been transferred to Doctor Doak's inventory.

Gained 1 Rock Salt, 1 Wolf Fang, 1 Wolf Winterberry and 1 Blanketweed.

Following the fight, the party searches through the mandibeast bodies, hoping to come across something useful. Not much of value remains, except for a decayed leather pouch slung around the neck of one of the human corpses. The insides reveal a lump of rock salt and a wolf fang, which may have been used as a protective talisman to ward off evil. It did little good for it's wearer, evidently. Looking around the area proves a bit more fruitful, the search resulting in a couple of alchemical plants.

Party gains 1 Rock Salt, 1 Wolf Fang, 1 Wolf Winterberry and 1 Blanketweed.

((These may be split among the party by themselves or, failing to reach a resolution, divided among potential party alchemists by GM.))

Oh. Cool. Uh... thanks?"

Doctor Doak wanders to the apothecary once again, to show the apothecarist his new findings, his new green goo (now in varying viscosity!) and ask what to do with the claws and fangs. And also hopefully speak to Xanios.

(Sorry for the delay!)

The apothecarist takes a look at the new findings with considerable interest. She theorizes that the the fluid likely has some nervous properties, significantly altering the nervous system of the creature it afflicts. The thicker viscosity may indicate a stronger reaction, or a more advanced stage of this material infection. Whether this affliction is due natural or magical means, the apothecarist cannot tell with the information available at present.

As for the state of organs of some of the other wolves, the apothecarist is at a loss. She thinks it unlikely that the wolf would still be functioning as a regular member of its species, given the intensity of internal damage, even though that was clearly the case as the fight concluded not too long ago.

The apothecarist notices the intact claws and fangs recovered by Doctor Doak (or rather handed to him by Aven) and gives him a recipe sheet of some potions she is able to craft using them. With the right recipe and equipment anyone could craft these potions with ease.

Added a party-wide recipe sheet to the Shop Items document

((Note: A new tab has been added to the Shop Items spread sheet (like so). This is not a comprehensive list of potions you can craft using your ingredients, you may find different recipes by searching for them, asking NPCs or even through trial-and-error alchemy.))

"Damn I can't afford anything, need more money."
After leaving the blacksmith's shop Burt looks around for empty bottles and bits of cloth, then heads over to the alchemy shop to see if they sell gunpowder, alcohol, and matches.

((This is just a reminder for ALL players in case they haven't seen it yet, all shop items can be accessed at the bottom of the Shop Items doc like so:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Everyone also please see this post and the mechanics sticky if you haven't already.))

Burt makes his way to the apothecary. The apothecarist has plenty of spare gunpowder and matches, since the Adventuring Company brings in such supplies regularly and the excess is sometimes dumped in her shop. However she doesn't have any expendable alcohol on her at the moment.

She points at the other wares on her shelves, if any adventurer is inclined to make a purchase.

How many people got removed?

Five: Obadiah, Liz, Jack Flush, Dolo the Rockobold and Kayla Shade.

There's maybe one or two more days before the next quest starts, so they can still continue to play, else they'll have to join up at a later part of the game.

What does One-Eye get from his gathering efforts?

This area of the forest borders the outmost periphery of the village, and as such most wild plants of any value have already been harvested by the locals. However, One Eye'd Jack's keen senses allow him to track down a couple of ingredients that can prove useful in alchemy.

One Eye'd Jack gains 1 Shichetta and 1 Blanketweed.

Dularach burst from the ground any wounds that he did have were already healed, he then goes out of his way to start wraping wolves in webs and drag them to his burrow

after Dula yoinks all the dead bodies from the right side and stores them in his burrow he injects them with his liquefying venom to prepare them for future meals, he then goes to the left side of the village and begins webing dead bodies up and dragging them to his burrow

After the villagers are done skinning the animals they retreat as Dularach advances onto the corpses and drags them underground.

Hello everyone, hope you are having fun with the game thus far. Unfortunately some players didn't respond during the first fight which is now concluded. For inactive players, your characters will be removed if you are unable or unwilling to continue further. You may be able to rejoin at a further point, so let us know if you will be dropping the game for now or will continue playing.

Now to more pressing matters. There is a fully consolidated Character Sheet which contains every relevant information for your character in one place. You can use the tabs at the bottom to switch between different sheets, so for example "Abilities" show which abilities your characters have, their costs, their effects etc. And your "Equipment" shows all armor, weapons, consumables and gold your character is currently lugging around. We shared other character sheets earlier but those will be deleted or else not updated, so I suggest you stick with this one.

You can access it here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/175FIRpL2OBrAb2YIebAFzrxin_dtQjMiPQYnHh7Fo7g/edit?usp=sharing

There is currently one other spreadsheet you need to keep track of, and that's the Village Shop Items. As more vendors join the village with their own wares over the course of the game, this document will make it easy to track the amount and price of goods they currently have stocked.

You can access it here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uYEVe0Kaz731Vp8ActkZaHhY6N3BAfGGQD-qm5diDpU/edit?usp=sharing

If you see any errors or confusing information in either document above, let us know and we'll fix it ASAP.

Some of the villagers gather the carcasses of the slain beasts together and quickly remove the hides and other precious animal parts. The valuable skins will help the village recover from constant animal attacks, as well as pay for the damage done to some of houses just now. However Aven doles out 1g to each adventurer, as recompense for protecting the village just now. In addition he collects some of the Bear Claws and Wolf Fangs gathered by the villagers and hands them over to Doctor Doak, as these can be used as ingredients in alchemy.

Doctor Doak gains 1 Bear Claw and 9 Wolf Fangs.

"Hell yeah I killed four of the bastards, I kind of expected the fight to last longer than what it did I also expected someone to end up dying, but no one did so that's good."
Burt then begin the long process of reloading the revolver and the not as long process of the rifle, then he went to the blacksmith to see what they had for sale.

The blacksmith looks up from cleaning the blood off his weapon as Burt arrives and points with his thumb at the wares behind him.

(All currently operating village vendors can be accessed from this file. You don't necessarily need to head into a specific shop to make purchases for things listed here... most of the times)

Doctor Doak looks downtrodden. :(

Then he gathers his notes, and heads to the apothecary and the sorceror, to see if they can figure out anything about the bright green fluid found in the gnolls' spines or the sprouting leaves in their brains.

Doctor Doak makes his way to the apothecary.

The apothecarist takes the notes from him and listens to his description of the anomalies found on the gnolls' bodies.

"Hmm... I couldn't say for sure what this fluid is. If it were simple mind control magic it wouldn't leave a conspicuous trace like this, and in any case the sorcerer could have dispelled it and we wouldn't need help from the outside. Also the creatures don't behave in the usual manner of a mind-controlled beast, which charge at you in a straight line. They're adept at attacking in large groups, the more of them there are the more rabid and cunning their assaults become. I haven't heard of any magic user who could control a forest full of animals like this... but it could be possible."

She pauses for a moment as if recollecting some thoughts, then snaps her fingers in realization.

"Ah! I think I have seen something like this before though. Must be more than a decade now, but we had a nature mage pass by here. She was on the hunt for rare mushrooms or some such in the forest. She had just the one spell, she could make grass grow at double speed!"

The apothecarist giggles.

"We never were sure if her spell worked, but there was a sort of green ooze left behind on the grass where she cast the spell. It might've exuded a similar energy to to what you discovered on the gnolls. Unfortunately there's not much else I can ascertain with what I have. You'll need to head into the forest, recover more samples perhaps, or find some other clues as to what's causing them to go berserk."

The apothecarist also informs Doctor Doak that the sorcerer hasn't been seen since morning. He goes out often and to her knowledge he hasn't returned yet.

Afterwards, bum around town looking for bits and pieces to construct a crossbow and fashion some bolts.

Doctor Doak recovers enough lumber and scrap metal to create a crossbow and a reasonable amount of bolts for it. However he doesn't have the required tools or knowledge to construct them.

((This is a placeholder GM banner, GM posts will include a banner like this from now on for convenience))

Doctor Doak takes a breath to tell the apothecary he has no money, but would offer his aid with the patient as Maslarein wanders in, touches the patient, and wanders out. His mouth agape, he blinks a few times to recover his senses.

I’m short on cash at the moment, do you offer credit, or is there anything I can do for you in return for the alchemists’ kit? I humbly submit that I have something of a scientific mind, I could be quite useful to you.

The apothecarist ponders for a moment.

"Have you met with Aven? I'm sure he was supposed to provide for the adventurers. Talk to him first, he should be able to help you out."

Maslarein begins to wander around the village, talking to random people and helping anyone he sees with whatever they’re doing, be it carrying food or building a wall. If he sees anyone looking exhausted or injured, he’ll try to make them feel better with Lay on Hands. As soon as Maslarein can’t find anyone new to help, he’ll go to the boarding house.

Attracted by the distress of a couple, Maslarein finds himself at the Oltwell residence. Mr and Mrs Oltwell are sitting on the porch outside their home. Mr Oltwell is a well dressed and somewhat portly individual, and is trying to console Mrs Oltwell who has her head buried in her hands. Only sounds of her sobbing can be made out. Their son Joco Oltwell, a hyperactive pre-teen, is indifferent to their plight and running around the front garden kicking a ball. Mr Oltwell notices Maslarein and informs him that they have been in a panic because their elder son, Torren Oltwell, went missing a few days ago. A cautious search attempt by some of the villagers failed to find any traces of him. Despite the disturbances with the enraged forest animals they don't think he was attacked, at least without leaving some sort of trace.

After learning about their plight Maslarein proceeds to the Apothecary where the injured man is currently being treated. He eases the man's pain and the apothecarist gives him 1 gold for his trouble.

Obadiah Turn 1
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Obadiah proceeds in a direction opposite of everyone else and starts cutting down trees at the edge of the village. Maslarein, having visited the Oltwells and the Apothecary, helps Obadiah put up some of the walls. They erect a fence around part of the village, but encircling the entire settlement would take several more days. They both head towards the boarding house as the late afternoon sun slowly gives way to a dismal dusk.

((If either person wants to head elsewhere or do something else before retiring for the day, they may still do that))
