DF Suggestions / Re: [SPOILERS] HFS improvements

That's valid!
But, I've seen examples of - when demons are kept captive in small areas - them reproducing if they have genders. So, while rare, I'd say that it's possible for them to reproduce.

General Discussion / 'Shenanigans' is objectively a funny word

Just something I thought I'd point out. Just imagining someone accusing another person of 'sHeNaNiGaNs' is so fucking funny to me

Hm. Seems like a pretty decent idea! I like it, especially the Age of Despair!
Perhaps, during the AoD, Demons could and would create 'Hives' and 'Burrows'?

Burrows would be similar to the lairs of Night Trolls, with small pebbles of slade sprinkled about.
Hives would be covered in spider webs, corrosive acid or various chewed up, soft materials, similar to a mouse burrow.

Hives would be where Demons reproduce and create weapons and armor out of web and dirt with small bits of slade, giving them decent (but not amazing) protection, comparable to bronze. Burrows would simply be where intelligent demons live while they plan out their own spires.

And maybe some of the more powerful demons or large groups of demons in the Age of Despair, in adventure mode, can be seen on the world map being surrounded by a cloud of yellow, pink or crimson fog?

Would you like to debate, McTraveller? You seem like a nice person to debate with.

And, I think that, by the left, you may be referring to Authoritarian Leftists. I'm an Anarchist-Communist, which basically means I oppose all structures that unneccessarily restrict the rights and freedoms of the individual, combined with the communist beliefs of worker-owned means of production and replacement of money with people assisting each other. There are a lot of other leftists who believe things like this, such as Syndicalists, Social Democrats and some Individualist Anarchists.

I think the left-wing people are more vocal than right-wing people is this;

The current system has history of allowing right-wing goals to be reached.
The current system, however, has a clear bias against left-wing goals.
Left-wing ppl have a problem with the system, and Right-wing people have a problem with how it's used.

DF Suggestions / [SPOILERS] "Stone Protection Tower" Self-Destruction
« on: December 01, 2020, 09:48:47 pm »
By "Stone Protection Tower", I mean vault.

So; Vaults are typically the most dangerous thing an adventurer will conquer, yes? There is no major movement challenge; only combat-based. Plus, I doubt the demon would simply let the hero go after they get the slab. So, I propose an idea.

When the slab is gotten, the Vault will start to destroy itself in a last-ditch attempt to keep you from escaping with the knowledge of the demon's true name. By "Destroy Itself", I mean the slade will begin to crumble into a heavy, brittle rocks, straight from the walls and ceiling. Stones will fall from the ceiling, and worst of all;
The door will 'melt' away, keeping you trapped.

This is you and the vault's last dance. As the structure crumbles with you inside, your goal is to find an escape - any escape - before you are crushed alive. Some examples of possible escapes include;

- Jumping through openings created by the crumbling walls
- Climbing through the ceiling once the highest layer starts to crumble
- Surviving inside until the building collapses to the point where you can walk out
- Breaking through the now-brittle slade; which is, while difficult, now actually possible with enough skill

And the demon would probably have some method of actually knowing about this, due to it being so important. So, if the demon's civilization is around, expect a large goblin army to be marching toward the vault"s position.

Please tell me what you think of this idea!

I managed to trap it in my (thankfully disconnected-from-my-base) depot by putting a turkey in it as bait and disconnecting it from the rest of my fortress via a wall, and then sealing it in via a bridge. So yea; it's mine now, muahahaha

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Giant holding 11 different artifacts
« on: December 01, 2020, 05:17:15 pm »
So, I'm playing in a world where, in essence, almost entirety of life has been extinguished. The only exceptions are a civilization of necromancers, a town of ~60 humans, and my fortress. It's existed for 5 years so far.

A giant just arrived, and I noticed that it holds 11 different artifacts. His name is Goldfillers the Sweet. He's got long auburn hair, a crooked nose, pale taupe skin, and low eyebrows and forehead.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He has...
- A mica slab called Ashencut that holds the secrets of life and death.
- A copper bow called The Knowing Ward covered in oval aventurine cabuchons and images of walnut trees
- A Dwarf Bone Buckler called Profaneflooded encrusted with graphite cabochons that has an image of a dwarf being elected to mayor in pink garnet
- A bronze short sword called Glowingrhyme with images of dwarves in hazel wood that has accumulated 13 kills
- A bronze war hammer called The Mastery of Escorts that has bands of sheep bone and spikes of Ilmenite
- A human bone ring called Gallowsturmoils
- A steel short sword called Carmineobeyed that's almost a thousand years old
- A bronze mace called Poemcovered encrusted with pear cut red zircons
- A bismuth bronze battle axe called The Perplexing Portal that's covered in like 5 different kinds of gems
- A steel war hammer called Acheworker that has killed 14
- And a mica scepter called Taxscorched the Mahogany bird.

And that's it.
Just the artifacts.

And guess what he's using as a weapon?? Guess???

To be perfectly honest, I don't think anything is gonna change. Biden and Trump are both funded by billionares. They don't care about people, they care about donors.

The workers lose, the owning class wins. That's how it has been since the country's inception. It just so happens that the farther right-wing things become, the easier corporations can create monopolies and destroy the planet for nothing but the production of capital.

DF Suggestions / Re: [SPOILERS] Pseudo-Endgame Idea: The Great Destroyer
« on: December 01, 2020, 12:59:34 pm »
I don't think that this would be a very good addition as it currently stands. Allow me to explain why...

"The Sky turns 50 shades of Red" doesn't fit well in Dwarf Fortress' writing style. Not only that, but the fact that this would be via an announcement wouldn't make all that much sense. Being able to hear about it from news upon a map would be a very reasonable alternative, however, similarly to how you can view attacks on other settlements.

Also, using "Goblins" is too general; I think that using the civilization or the leader would be better. The name "The Great Destroyer" would also have to be substituted with a randomly generated alternative. Perhaps using multiple terms, while keeping the same pattern. (For example, The Great/Monstrous/Corrupted Destroyer/Spire/Peak.) You wouldn't really know that it is a gateway to the underworld, either.

However, "A beam of energy is coming from the top, tearing the fabric of the universe, this is a dark time for WORLD_NAME" doesn't fit DF's writing style as well, and the idea of the fabric of the universe tearing is a bit generic. I would substitute it for the following;

"From atop [TOWER_NAME], a beam of [Synonym of Corruption, Evil, Darkness, Etc] rises to the skies. Shadows turn darker, and clouds stir in the sky."

Then, the "Demons appearing in place of animals" point. I think that a better idea would be for hordes of demons to periodically appear high above the sky, with the amount of occurances coorelating with distance to the tower of darkness.

And, with raids, you should be able to enter the tower. However, the goal should not to find some sort of core and perform a sacrifice. Rather, the goal should be to seal off the entrance to the underworld that was created.

Also; There is a problem with this idea that I have as a whole. What would the goblins' motivation be? I only really have one idea; To create a greater opening to the underworld, and allow for more demons to exit the underworld. So, I'd imagine the new goal is to seal the gateway, and the reward being - not with the other dwarves becoming gods - but of the demon raids stopping. The remaining demons, lacking a proper portal to the underworld, I'd imagine, would become something similar to Night Trolls, periodically raiding sites in packs.

After the gate is sealed, the idea that all goblin civs would attack every other civ would be too extreme. The Tower would be destroyed or reappropriated, as the civ who conquered it would desire, and the goblin civs may try to take it back. They're pretty much 'at war' with all civs at the get-go anyhow, so that wouldn't change much.

I'd imagine, after the gate is sealed, the goblins would focus themselves almost completely upon the people who tried to take the Gate. '

So, in summary; This idea has potential for a possible event that could be done by large goblin civilizations. However, it is worded poorly, and quite a few things do not make sense. But the idea is still fairly decent on its own. So, good job.

DF Suggestions / [Guilds] Guild Strikes
« on: December 01, 2020, 10:10:30 am »
WARNING: This may get a bit topical and some descriptions may be similar to recent IRL events. Please don't bring said situations up in replies; Regardless of your opinion on any similar events, this is a suggestion, not a political stance.

I've noticed that Guilds are - in some ways - similar to the modern idea of Unions. So, I thought, "What if Guilds can go on strike too?". I checked the Planned Features page, and didn't see anything specifically about them, so I decided to create this as a starting idea of what they could end up being.

Guild Strikes
Guild Strikes are events that occur when Dwarves are unhappy with some part of their work or lives. They can only take place after a Mayor or Baron is elected, and when enough dwarves in a guild have an issue with one or more things.
During a strike, Dwarves will refuse to work on specific labors or jobs. Some dwarves in a guild will not participate in the strike, but striking dwarves will begin to dislike them, and the dwarves that DO work and DO have sympathies with the strike will produce lower quality goods.

Strike Types
Here are a few ideas of how some strikes could take place. These are only some ideas for how Strikes could work, and these will likely not be all the ways a strike can happen if they are put in-game.

Workless Strike - The typical strike, without any other affects than dwarves refusing to do jobs that relate to certain labors.
General Strike - The typical strike, but on a larger scale, with more than one guild taking part.
Sit-Down Strike - Dwarves will actively get in the way of the work by occupying workshops and refusing to allow others to use it until the strike finishes.
Hunger Strike - Dwarves will refuse to eat or drink until the end of the strike; some may die.
Occupance Strike - Dwarves will enter the rooms that are owned by authority figures and refuse to leave.

Strike Demands
Each strike will choose one or more demands depending on their need from the striking dwarves.

Less Work - If you have been forcing Dwarves to work to the point of being unable to socialize, they will want to have to work less overall.
Meeting Place - If you have not made any sort of area to socialize, Dwarves will strike for an inn or some other area they can socialize with others.
Workless Days - If you have been forcing dwarves to work almost nonstop, they might ask for 1 to 2 weeks of vacation each season.
Better Meals - If enough dwarves do not have proper meals, they will strike for proper meals.
Public Workshops - If dwarves are sad they have been unable to practice a craft, they might strike for a 'Public Workshop' that dwarves can access and use when they have no labors to do.
Better Furniture - If dwarves have nowhere to sleep or store their belongings, they might strike for proper bedrooms and furniture in them.

Lying about Acceptance
You will be able to accept the demands of a strike in a similar fashion to a petition. When they are accepted, they have a time limit to when they must be completed. When you do not complete it, though, there will be a large amount of stress, and a good chance for things to... escalate.

Listening to the Strikers
When you listen to the striking dwarves and give them what they desire, they will get a boost of happier thoughts and will be able to start working again, potentially delaying even a tantrum spiral. However, some dwarves will dislike Strikes and demonize the strikers.

Escalation
What if you ignore the strikers and lie about accepting their goals too much? Well, then the dwarves may begin to riot for change. Dwarves riot when they think strikes don't do anything, and the more riots happen, the faster that dwarves resort to them. Like Strikes, there are a few types of Riots, as well as a final type that can lead to the destruction of a fortress.

Riot Types

Occupancy Riots - Dwarves will enter the houses of authority figures and mess the place up, destroying and upturning furniture.
Precise Riots - Dwarves will destroy items and workshops that relate to their labor, such as axes and carpenter's workshops for woodworkers.
General Riots - Dwarves will destroy any workshops or structures until they are incapacitated or the strike is over.
Resource Riots - Dwarves will destroy resources that relate to their labor, such as metal bars, wooden logs or crafts.
Exodus Riots - Dwarves will leave the fortress and take up occupancy at another site until you do what they want you to do, not just accept.

After a few riots, the dwarves may stop rioting. This does not mean the danger is passed; it means that the final type of riot will soon occur without proper preparation and de-escalation.

Uprising - Think French Revolution with Dwarves. Rogue military dwarves may assist the uprising, Some dwarves will assist the uprising and others will resist it, and the main targets will be those in power. Nobles cannot be elected during an uprising, and if all nobles are killed during an Uprising, the fortress will be forcefully retired. In Legends Mode, the fortress will have created a new civilization after the uprising, and all the holdings of the fort will leave the claim of their civilization as well.

Please tell me what you think of the idea!

My intention of it was for it to be a joking way of saying that the point was incorrect; but, we're getting off-topic.

I think that America should look to what Vietnam is doing right involving the pandemic, and take inspiration from what they're doing.
