DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Rescued children going on a murder spree

So I saved some children from a dark fortress and it was going fine except I had slaughtered every goblin and troll who crossed my path hoping killing enough would increase my frame rate. it did not. However it did start an insurrection and what I can only phrase as a goblin civil war. Which is fine by me however when there is a goblin with a random No Quarter next to his name the two kids following me run straight towards him and we end up running in circles because I have to then kill that goblin to continue on rinse and repeat. I tried holding shift and pressing O opening up the companion menu however the children just seem to ignore it. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can do to get these murderous kids back to their village?
