DF Gameplay Questions / DFHack on Linux, Steam

Heya, I've been using DFHack with the Steam version on Linux, but since the native Linux versions it hasn't worked since. I've tried reinstalling several times, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

I just tried using some of the betas, but those don't work either.

Heya, I built a limestone block pyramid without any idea of what to actually put in it, any cool ideas? So far I've been suggested a tomb filled with treasure, some kinda battle arena, and a temple (also filled with treasure), but I'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas out there :)

DF General Discussion / Extreme RAM use after update

Has anyone else had their game start using an extreme amount of RAM when playing? I just tried the latest update and the game uses 3 gigs of ram when I'm playing it. It spikes rapidly when I embark and load a save in an embark.

I'm on Linux and using Proton if anyone things that has something to do with it.

I've never been that interested in the aesthetics of my forts, but I've recently been thinking more about it recently, and I'm curious about how others like to do it. What are some of your favourite things to build/tips to make everything look nicer?

DF Gameplay Questions / Temple value set to ?

My temple's value was evaluated as a shrine with a value of "?", it went away after a while when I constructed an instrument in it, but I'm not sure why it happened. Anyone know what's up with it?

DF Gameplay Questions / Black background on text

I'm using a custom colour set with the classic ASCII characters, but I keep getting a black background behind text. A similar issue happens when using the non-classic graphics and text has this solid colour behind it different to the rest. Any idea how to make that not happen without changing my colour scheme?

Any idea why the colours were changed in 0.50? Whenever I install the game the first thing I do is replace the colours with the old ones because I really don't like them. Is anyone else like this, and does anyone know why they're different now?

DF Gameplay Questions / Reading stories in taverns

In the classic versions I remember being able to sorta "listen in" on the stories being told in taverns by just viewing the job, but I can't seem to find how to do that in the premium version.
I'm hoping that's not a feature that got removed like seeing details about a dwarves deities (that loss really made me upset I used to love customising things to fit the themes of their gods but I can't do that anymore :()

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Steam version incredibly slow?

I really loved how smooth classic runs on my trash laptop, but it seems to have the laggiest controls and be all-round slow on it. Any clue what I can do about that? I am on Linux and running it through proton, so I imagine that can't be helping it, but surely that wouldn't cause it to be that bad?

I'm tempted to switch back to classic until they release a native Linux version and maybe release the ASCII version too, hopefully it's a bit better by then.

DF Suggestions / Have animals inherit pens from their parents

I have a bunch of chickens in a pen and every time their eggs hatch I have to manually assign the chicks to the pen, I think animals should by default inherit pens from their parents. Is there a reason why this isn't the case already?

I tend to always be a little bit lost at what to ask for whenever I have to go over trade agreements, and was wondering what everyone else tends to do. Sometimes there's a real lack of something I want, but a lot of the time I'm just completely at a lost.
