Leave the crocodiles for insurance. Create a mechanism that unlocks the entrance to the outside world from the crocodile tunnel, and then make sure seigers try and go through there when they're attacking.

So, herd siegers in there.

And capture and tame some crocodiles for the arena. Can't tame the mama now, though, because she's already tasted the sweet flavour of dwarf blood.

Waterwheel powered mill shack, library (wooden cabinets in leu of book cases), post office, arena, great hall, catacomb-maze, suspended prison above chasm, temple around HFS pit. Sewer systems (preferably filled with carp). Apartments, kings palace compound with patrolling marksdwarves on the roof and royal guard hq. Cathedral. above ground wooden shacks. above ground mini-farms. Above-ground inn and little church. Star gods tower with rooms for the faithfulll. Little cult of diseases hideout and ritual rooms hidden in the sewers. Zoo with all sorts of elf-bought animals. Dungeon filled with nice, engraved walls and floor, magma channels and misc. monsters. Fortress guard watch stations. Military compound which the baron lives in. docks to fish off of. Bazaar. warehouses. Bank and heavily trapped and mechanised vault for artifacs and shineys. heavily trapped tomb of the king in teh basement of the palace. Massive, gold adorned throne room.

Typically, I build this on a mountain with a chasm, next to some cursed forest bordering a lake. Then you can build all this nifty stuff. Magma optional.

I only kill nobles who make completly impossible mandates (adamantium or crystal glass)

I just dwarf companion the victims of the dwarven justice system back to health.

And the dungeon maaster and philosopher don't make any mandates at all. They're nice. Especially since you can't tame megabeasts without the dungeon master.

Another challenge:

mod dwarves to be aquatic and create an underwater utopia.

I'm told you can't build underwater, so you'll need lots of pumps to build stuff in drydocks before reflooding them.
I recommend a sweetwater lake to prevent being washed away and have drinkingwater at the same time.
Carp infestation optimal.

You can employ milkers and cheesemakers as an ammuntition dump for those goblin archers. Or chained up kittens.

Or burn the outside world with magma when you're fully self sufficient.

I don't have this problem. It's been three or four years since an Elven caravan survived the surprising yet inevitable Goblin Ambush to actually get to my gates intact. There's something pitiable about watching a majestic, immortal race run willy nilly around the hillsides with a dozen goblins nipping at it.

Goblins are immortal too.

Not majestic, unless you count flammable as a majestic quality.

Glass undersea fortress to explore in adventure mode would be awesome.

Might be easier with mass constructoin coming out in the new version, however. Only two week, at most, away.

DF Gameplay Questions / Goblin civil wars and elves in human towns

Someone mentioned it was possible to get goblins to kill each other if you joined he goblin religeon and then attacked the demon. Is this true?

Second, I was running around killing things in a human town when I walked into the tavern and encountered a cluster of 7 elves, a druid, two human children, 1 human guard, and 3 elf guards. I've massacred elven towns in the past, so perhaps these are (were now  :P) refugees?
