So I took one of the new legs and stuck it to the back of a flying vehicle with rail cannons.

The result was a very fascinating sniper that attaches itself to cliff faces to stabilize itself and give itself a very good vantage point.

The problem with the nano guns is they have awful range. The damage they do is pretty good though, SMGs don't have 100% accuracy.

Well finally they got the stick out of their posteriors.

I'll be returning to this game now. I just still hope some day they will unlock the speed, and make single guns more attractive.

Excellent.

Though... I do have to put out my opinion... Don't you guys think it's a little excessively optimistic to rile up the crowd for stretch goals at this point? XD

Functioning parts do stop hull from growing until they are finished. If you want hull to regenerate faster just make sure there is a buffer, such as having another hull part, before any functional parts are attached.
Does this include thrusters?

Heh... I'm kinda sad... I didn't get to send in my ships this time...

It was kinda on short notice, only two days to prepare.

I would really like to know what exactly determines regrowth... Do parts randomly choose something to build?
I ask this since I have a ship that has a very large frontal hull, and at one point it had a shield generator nestled in it in such a way that it shouldn't interfere with regrowth of the hull pieces, but I found that the ship would focus on rebuilding that shield before any of the other parts beyond it despite having multiple connections to other hull sections.

*violently strangles the AI*

Thing. Thing. You have nothing but drones, missiles, and a freakishly huge assortment of engines pointing away from the enemy. WHY DO YOU RAM THEM!??

The saddest thing is that one match, it will actually hang back and snipe. The next match, it valiantly charges forth to get ripped into a thousand pieces. It makes me want to whack it with a rolled up newspaper ;_;
Shields.

For some reason when a bot faces a shielded ship it either thinks the target is weaker than it really is, or it puts way too much weight into the prospect of knocking the shields down.

I'm betting it's the second theory, since it makes sense to figure that sniping will not get you very far when it comes to actively destroying the enemy vessel when the shields are just going to absorb everything... the problem is shields aren't THAT powerful against a proper sniping ship. Drone and missile ships can even do the trick if the enemy ship doesn't have enough point defense or maneuverability.

Perhaps... I guess I just find my style so far somewhat hinges on superior defense and I feel like not having point defense is like leaving a whole spectrum out. Heh.

Still having fun with it so far. Made a few ships already that I plan to send into the contest. And only one is ripping off Deceleration!

Yeah unfortunately we didn't come up with a good way to handle that. In the full game you can unlock the parts you want to use, and then select a certain number of them for the active palette. Since this is basically just the ship editor portion of the game with everything else removed we made the active palette randomized for each save file. It isn't perfect, but hopefully it isn't too annoying either.
It sadly is very annoying. It is incredibly hard to get point defense, which means having the ability to make a well rounded and effective craft is on a dice roll, let alone being able to get said point defense with the weapons you want besides super common ones like plasma of all varieties.

And would I be correct in thinking that the ships are grouped into what are effectively weight classes by the number of points used on them? Seems like I modified one design by only a small amount but was suddenly against much stronger opponents, probably because of crossing the boundary to the next class up.
Yes.

Standard (anything goes):
Probe - Any design of 250P or less.
Interceptor - Any design of 1000P or less.
Cruiser - Any design of 3000P or less.
Dreadnought - Any design of 6000P or less.

I presume the same classes are used in the shipbuilder.

If I have any complain about the ship builder, it is that the parts palette is based off the ships loaded in on the fleet menu, what those ships can use is what you'll have available, up to the limit of slots for the parts palette

Looks like Everyone can start playing around with a ship builder that just got released...

http://www.anisopteragames.com/development-log/

Presumably you can pit anything you make up against ships from the recent tournament.

I'll probably get around to downloading it myself after I'm done watching a stream recording.

Well I've finally got to backing this thing...

Only 57% so far... I'm hoping it gets another big boost soon.

I do notice some people have gotten alpha access here and there... I'm kinda wondering how if it's possible for me to get it... I want my liquid awesome dammit! 0P

Hi everyone, this is Colin, one of the people involved with Reassembly.

Thanks for all the interest, let me know if you have any questions about the game or Kickstarter.
Can you give us a sense of just how mod-able you plan the game to be? A thought that came to mind was whether the basic shapes could be replaced with sprites.

If sprites are possible, I think you will attract those with an artistic mindset like an industrial electromagnet. You already certainly are going to, but that would take a bite out of the crowd who would look at basic pale shapes and reject the game quickly.
In the process, modders adding sprites would turn this game into something incredibly gorgeous to look at in simple pictures.

I thought I'd bring attention to this game that showed up in my video watching. It seems to be a very relaxed game that lets you build your ship out of basic shapes and then lets you pilot it in combat. It has very nice particle effects and atmosphere already in its current stage.

The game is now out on early access for steam, if you havn't gotten it through the kickstarter campaign, now is your chance to try out the beta for yourself.
