DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Generating my world
« on: March 06, 2012, 10:31:54 am »
Hi guys,
Just got back from a skiing trip and that always makes me want to play Dwarf Fortress (snow + mountains do that to me), it also happens to coincide with the release of DF2012. And I’ve played a few fortresses but I want a different challenge. I want a world with these feautures:

 -50/50 evil/normal
 -From freezing to scorching
 -2 cavern layers
-No vampirism or werebeasts, but I do want a necromancer tower
 -No aquifer

I was wondering if that’s possible at all, and if so how. I’m a little intimidated by the many options an advanced generation gives you, halp?

Making an artificial cavern with buildings carved into the stone.

I am not sure I get what you mean, here. How is that any different from a normal fortress?
I think he means like a big hole that all rooms are connected to.

Prison/street structure, basically:

Code: [Select]
Room|_   _|Room
Room|_   _|Room
Room|_   _|Room
Room|_   _|Room
######~~~######

I love the walkways, gives it a city feel to it

My first dwarves survived in a crudely dug out cavern and they lived off of water and gathered plants. Then winter came. I tried so hard to get liquid water, but it didn't work out :(

embark in a dangerous area, with agressive animals. Use them for leather and bones, they'll come at you for free!

This works fine and you need not build anything. I've used similar to get through thin mountain ranges before.
Now I have to start an embark with a large tunnel through a mountain with a small outpost inside it :)

You can put dwarves in a squad with gear and still have them work when off-duty, right?

If so, how do they respond to threats if they are armed but civilian?

Does that mean I can butcher my own dead dwarves? :D

I've got a question about the armor, in my last fortress I had a squad of 10 dwarves with the following suit:

High boots
Chain leggings
Chains shirt
Gauntlets
Helmet
and a sheep wool cloak.

That was all they were wearing during the fights. In the reports I read how the goblins would easily cut through the cloaks and wound them. That somewhat confused me since you would expect after teh cloak there would still be armor to get through, but that didn't happen. Is it possible that my cloak somehow made my dwarves less tough?

This is a very cool idea, i'm keen on seeing the results. 1 Year seems to be a little short though, no ?
You have to see what happens after one year, it would be a "first update". then we can see if we play on!
