thanks, but that doesn't exactly help, has anyone else tried to make the kobolds playable and have run into this problem? I don't want to have to wade through hundreds of different possibilities for why they can't currently be played.

I am having trouble getting Kobolds to be civ controllable, simply moving the [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] from the dwarf entity to the kobold entity doesn't seem to work, the fortress mode just freezes up before it starts.  Also my kobold adventurers aren't starting with daggers no matter what skill level I'm giving them... any suggestions?

I guess I "powertrained" though i was able to take on ettins and others after a couple hours wandering around of killing scrub rats and wolfs.  Large wolf packs i found to be the most important for skill increases, specifically shield.  Again it was the first character i had actually tried to become powerful with, the others i just sent to their swift enjoyable dooms. And no i did not use any high powered armor, i didn't even know you could equip more than one shield until i came on here...  Also Ambushing was key for me in killing the various elites and marksmans that were in fortresses...  I wasn't very careful and had a few close calls, but i didn't lose.  Really this is confusing for me because i didn't even use bodyguards, and most people seem to claim that it is necessary to play the game with them...

This is surprising, I only recently have started playing adventure mode and finding as long as you don't take on any quests for the first little bit the game isn't so bad...  I've slaughtered a few goblin fortresses and completed the vast majority of human quests in the region.  Then i got bored and jumped off a high cliff  :).  I was ultra mighty superhumanly tough perfectly agile and i maybe played 20 hours tops.

I figured out what I was doing wrong... and btw blowguns are easily added by just giving your civ proficiency with them in the default entity file, I had to make my own ammo though, not sure why the original blowdarts didn't work.

Can they not be made?  I've given my dwarves the skill but it doesn't appear on any build menus, and I so wanted to make a pygmy tribe type fort....

I plan to make a giant maze with food/ale near the "end"; they will have to to danger the various traps, released ettins or whatnot, but if they reach the end they will be released.

Okay, my current fort is starting to lag my system up and I'm starting to dislike the chore of watching my dwarves slowly do my biddings... would new ram be a good idea? I'm not interested in disabling any features, just wondering if new cpu parts are necessary or not.
specs:
2k ram
dual core 2.66 GHZ processor

I now have about 150 dwarves, 200 animals, and one cramped and ever expanding (slowly enough) fortress.

Is there any source for the intro music and in game music?  I'd like to be able to listen to them without having to open DF.
