Granted, too bad the squid went bad months ago.

I wish that the watchmen movie will be as good as the book.

Curses / Re: Voter Fraud

The odds of false registration overturning an election are miniscule.  An individual person could only cast ten or twelve votes over the course of a day, even if they were able to avoid getting noticed for their false registration.  For that they'd be risking felony charges which would without a doubt be persecuted to the maximum extent of the law.  Even if you knew to anticipate a florida 2000 event, it would still involve a rather large conspiracy to overturn even such a slender margin and to overturn a typical election margin would take hundreds or thousands of people.

Rigging the election from within the system is much easier.  The US does not have a national election authority and leaves the matter to a hodgepodge of underfunded state and local groups with little acountability.  Even though it's known and publicized that security flaws are built in (http://www.engadget.com/2004/09/27/floridians-beware-monkey-can-actually-hack-diebold-voting/), nobody cares and we still don't demand a paper trail.  Given the current opportunity of not only overturning an election but getting off scott free, a rigged election is a legitimate concern.

One is possible.  The other aint.

I do that, but you should play around with the system to get a feel for it.  There's no one right way.

Yeah, most labs keep several mysterious looking vials of water with dye in them around purely for the effect.

umiman, I disagree.  I found Dr. Manhattan's perspective alien and interesting and in the end he wasn't even doing it for her, he was doing it for him.

Basleah, after having an ending spoiler in the trailer I overlooked pointed out to me I caved and read your spoiler there.  I am shocked.  They took the best comic book ever and ripped the beating heart out of it for the sake of a trashy production.  This is a goddamn crime.

1. Girl and blue dude don't go, "do it for me." They had a one comic book issue debate over the value of human existence! It ended with some surprising conclusions and the girl in tears.

THIS!  THIS!  THIS!  You put words to exactly what was nagging me about the trailer.  That line sounded completely shallow in the trailer and quite frankly, didn't belong there in the first place.  If they trivialize what is basically the central struggle for those two characters, I'd very much doubt they can do justice to the story.

DF General Discussion / Re: Thermodynamically viable underground farming

It's a lot easier to imagine that photosynthesis in the df world operates off a different energy source then rl.  Example:

The sun projects both light and ether.  Light does not pass through objects (except glass and water, etc.) but ether tends to penetrate quite well, a tiny fraction reflects while most goes through.  While ether normally reflects off of surfaces, plants have learned to harness it in the basis for the ethersynthetic biosphere.  Think really long wave length radiation except it tends to reflect, rather then absorb.
The dwarves live rather close to the surface of the world and barely notice the dilution of the ether due to the earth above them, their plants are often quite close to the surface and get about 99% of the ether that a surface plant would get.  The deepest dwarven mines still get about 90% of surface ether.  Even if a suicidal dwarf were to mine straight through the rectangle and plant seeds on the bottom of the world, those seeds would still experience a significant fracticion of the ether on the surface.

Entropy sorta makes sense and there's a reason for quarry bushes to have leaves.

Can't liberals eventually pick up the basics of computers by harassing conservative websites?  I'm pretty sure I taught a few guys this way when I was laying low between elections.  Recruiting hackers is more effective but I find it very funny to get a bunch of messages after waiting:

"Naomi Fox has caused a scare by hacking into a CIA network!"
"Gary Buttman was arrested by the police!"
"Jesus Smith has posted nasty comments."

Yeah, that's pretty hardcore.

It's very risky to not restrain a captive and it can actually hurt your speed since being too comfortable makes it easier for them to resist.  Even if your not beating, be a little rougher, it's possible to turn arch conservatives in a single day.  That should be your goal because it is awesome.  You want go start going easy on conservatives if they're in very poor health or are close to suicide.  Drugs IIRC are only useful for overcoming social skills.  If they don't have a social skill or your skill is higher in it, don't bother with drugs.

Nah, keep the dumb questions coming.  We're liberally tolerant here.

To print the newspaper, have someone write for the liberal guardian (number 8 under activism, has to be at the site.)  Your crimes will receive press and you can publish salacious stories at the end of the month.

Weapons are bought at the pawn shop in the industrial district or the black market outside of town.

Skills can be taught but this is very expensive.  It's much easier to learn by doing.

In interrogation as it exists right now it's most important to 1) have high interrogation skill and 2) have stockholm syndrome happen.  Get the first by training your interrogator(s) up on weak conservatives such as janitors, extra sleepers is never a bad thing.  To get the second you need to give your good cop interrogator time with the conservative treating him relatively gentle i.e. no beating, no starvation or thirsting more then 2 days.

To see an exact method read the spoiler and take all the fun out of figuring the system out for yourself, completely unbalancing the game:

Nah, I think that the conservatives should be the only ones doing voter fraud. The game is meant to portray them exaggeratedly negatively, remember? And of course, it portrays the democrats almost embarrassingly positively.

The LCS displays a lot of negative liberal traits as well; for one thing they're terrorists!

Well, the other option is give your Hackers an option to hack electronic voting machines during elections. There should be a chance of them getting caught, with a nice huge media backlash...

Hacked election things are in popular myth a conservative sin.  Liberals are always bitching about lack of accountability and voting irregularities etc, while conservatives perennially complain about liberals voting illegally.  Thus if we're sticking to the stereotypical sins, Liberals shouldn't have the option to hack machines since that's a conservative crime.

I just downloaded the release currently in the first post.  When I put my current save game in, it had the same bugs although when I started a new game and just waited until elections there were no bugs.  Problem with the version I downloaded or do I need to start over?

Curses / Voter Fraud

Once you've reached a certain level of power, it's pretty easy to control all the issues and make sure that you win elections.  So, to make it so the game becomes harder, not easier, it could be that after society is changed enough, and the liberals have won the previous election, the conservatives start doing voter fraud.  To prevent the elections from being overturned, Liberals would have to do strikes against the compounds of corporations like say "Lieboldly" and get the real result to hold up.
Going by the poke fun at both sides principle, it might be worthwhile to add Liberal election tampering as well, getting people to vote more then once and recounts spring to mind though I don't have any suggestions on how they fit in.
