Anyone can learn to pick locks if you hit up the apartments enough.  For stealth/disguise I find that practice makes perfect, go a stealing non violently and you'll learn 'em soon enough.

I'm sorry, penguin, but Cosmonot's argument is liberal, so he is right.

After lots of sitting on the fence, I've decided to favor consolidating the skills because it makes the game less complicated at the start.  Another layer can always be added in later to make it worthwhile to give your liberals different guns.

But for what it's worth, I sometimes look to the middle east for source material. Kind of sad, really, that I could look anywhere for source material for this game.  :(

Really?  I thought the game was more in the spirit of Latin American revolution.  After all, American capitalist greed features quite prominently in said revolutions.

Also, Duke, words have meaning according to how they're used, and when I say democracy, people understand it to mean a government with elections not just direct democracy.  Don't play semantic games or I'll get angry.  And you won't like that...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Mighty Record Keeping Warriors

They do occassionally do record keeping even after you have perfect records, so maybe telling a dwarf to do nothing but record keeping with all other work disabled and no meeting hall to socialize will do the trick.

No.

LCS is funny because it's in America, a functioning democracy where the government does a pretty good job of representing the people.  It's about a group of revolutionaries who are completely blind to the world and that's what makes it funny.  Putting it in Iraq would be tasteless and would ruin the game.

Is it possible for your retired adventurers to become parents and still be parents if you resume their journeys?

Someone needs to find a way to hack a traders limb off and then sell a craft made of that limb back to him on a later visit.

General Discussion / Re: Orson Scott Card's take on recent politics
« on: November 01, 2008, 01:57:22 am »
I believe there is more blame toward the Democrats, particularly during the Clinton years, when they pushed for giving loans to more people even when they lacked the ability to pay for it.  But that is besides my point.

When the bloody hell did Clinton ever push for loans to people who couldn't pay them?  Hell, when has a bank ever given a loan to anyone who couldn't pay it?  The problem wasn't we were loaning to bad people, it's that people were taking on loans that were too big and the banks were treating those loans as more secure then they were and the interest rates went up and blah, blah, blah we're all over levered.  But when the bloody hell did Clinton ever force a bank to make a single freaking loan to someone with no ability to pay it?

And you're the one bitching about ad homnium attacks...

I think there's a lot of blame to go around with the housing crisis, but I think Card is spot on about the media not being objective about it.  There have been polls showing a majority of people believe this, and that it is biased for the left.

Maybe people blame the right more because the right's platform ever since Regan has been "regulation bad, deregulation good."  On everything from industrial regulation to labor regulation to trade barrier to, yes, finance they have always pursued deregulation.  While it's a bad idea to put a single cause to this collapse, if you had to name a single government action most to blame, it would be the politics of deregulation.  So it's not unreasonable to blame the right more since both sides are guilty of failure of vision (neither Clinton or Bush acted to avert this) but it was only the GOP that created the political and legal environment that makes this possible.  If the right is more to blame (and they are!) then why shouldn't the media say so?

Wait, I'm sorry but is this thread titled "Orson Scott Card's fine earlier works and how they relate to politics." or is this thread titled "Orson Scott Card's take on recent politics."  This is a discussion on his political views, namely the views he chose to put out front by recently publishing them.  Why the hell does freedom of speech preclude us from freely pointing out that this is a biased, under informed ignorant piece of rubbish which contains poorly masked racism>
