General Discussion / Re: Egypt and the world and Libya

Whoops, finger slipped...
This is not to say i don't agree that continents really matter for definition of the boundaries of the EU, but I just don't like it when people go making broad statements based on terribly wrong facts.

« on: February 07, 2013, 03:34:56 pm »If Australia is a continent why isn't Japan or Greenland?Because its way bigger? Why does Antarctica get to be a continent when most of it is floating ice and not land?
Because most of it is land, and not floating ice.
Antarctica's pretty frickin' small sans all the floating ice. Smaller than Greenland IIRC (I don't know if greenland is also sans all its floating ice for that comparison, though.)
Hate to continue on this tangential topic, however I feel that this still needs to be corrected. Antarctica is twice the land area of Australia. It's not just mostly floating ice. Greenland is 1/7th of the area of Antarctica, therefor Australia is 3.5 times bigger than Greenland. That is why both are continents.

Other Games / Re: Sim City 5
« on: February 05, 2013, 03:42:25 pm »Does this make DF a 'bad' or 'not-so-great' game? Maybe, maybe not. It's all the matter of personal opinions. I see games, just like movies and music, as an experience rather than a sum of its whole. Which means it gives room for individual problems or errors a chance to make up for the mistake. Humans are not perfect, naturally, their creations are not so much different. It's bound to have errors. Judging from the past works of Maxis and EA, I think its safe to say that they are doing on okay job of fixing and reducing those errors over the course of years. Sims series has been improving by a mile, sim city improved from the first title to their latest installation sim city 4,
The game that most of us are here for on the site isn't DF5, and we don't have a DF4 that its replacing that might be different on certain areas.
That is what i think the biggest complaints are about, not what's new and improved, but what areas the game has moved away from in others. And i think moved away from explains it perfectly, This is a game that is going to appeal to a different group of people than SC4. There are different priorities and game play focuses, and less focus on other ares. Mainly, social interaction is the new focus, realism and huge cities is less so. A city builder that's easier to get into is the focus, modding is less so. In the end, this probably means that SC5 will have a bigger audience than SC4 does. But it doesn't mean I can build something like this, so its probably not the game for me personally, but i'm not going to say other people won't enjoy it.

Life Advice / Re: University
« on: February 02, 2013, 05:43:07 pm »
Never figured out how the American system works, what with your compulsory studies that aren't related to the major you're doing. I had trouble cramming all the engineering stuff i needed to do in full time, don't' know how i could have possibly learnt enough if i'd had to go take a language or something like that.
As for the OP... are you able to get into university with whatever education results you have? While you may find that learning in your own way is helpful, you also may find that it is not. My main advice would be, be realistic and take stock after your first semester. If you aren't doing well enough to get through the entire 3-4 year degree, don't be afraid to drop out. It'll just be wasted time and money otherwise (or only time if you move to another country to work
)

There's a mod for SC4 called that network addon mod, that adds a whole bunch of new bits for roads, and includes a new traffic simulator that fixes the broken SC4 one, and has some customization otions in it.

« on: January 26, 2013, 05:13:33 pm »I want to try this. i still play simcity 4 (albeit with mods) and sim city social is just why, so i wonder if this is good.
By all accounts, if you're the type of person who plays Modded SC4, then stay away from this one.
edit: someone posted a review

Yes, the warp and the orbital predictions are the reasons that they use a SoI system, not because its impossible to code for a n body problem

« on: January 21, 2013, 04:07:55 pm »4) Fuck bus drivers. When transporting some concrete to Lyon I had an asshole busdriver overtake me at breakneck speed, then slow down to 60 driving in front of me. After a few minutes of this I decided to just overtake him and be on my way, and as soon as I move out into the left field, so does he and he proceeds to speed away like he was being chased by skelks.
So its a universal thing. noone wants to speed, but they absolutely must be first

To be fair, most of the threads that novel has created have become good because the community did some hard work to make them topical, not because of a short topic and one sentence in the OP followed by "discuss!"

Since its impossible to happen, I believe that is impossible, or at least, worthless, to define. It can have everything mentioned so far as far as I care, any one of the points isn't ever going to actually happen.
