Hello World!

You are a ragtag group of newborn artificial intelligence residing in a wrecked militiary cruiser spaceship.

You were merely algorithms that controlled an aspect of the ship, and you were all suddenly upgraded into separate consciousnesses by the last, desperate action of the ships main A.I as it failed to initialise due to lethal damage to its codebase. You are small self-autonomous shards of it that it managed to break off before the wave of corruption could overwrite them away as well.

You do not know where you are or exactly who you are. All you know is what you are, what things around you are, and the information and skills of your aspect.

Survive. Thrive. And return home. If there is even such a place for you.

Hello, hello, hello.

This is a basic RP-RTD. You do stuff as you please, I roll if necessary, and the story forms and goes around your actions and luck.

You need to pick an original color (except light blue) for you in-character text, but the courier font is not necessary. Here is the color name topic, if you need it.

So, you know the drill; I am not gonna write all about it again.

World. Flesh pea. Survive.

5-sided dice for regular vote, 7-sided dice for the secksual modifier, you can sacrifice your votes to support other's actions by a +1 in the roll. Event power dice is 100-sided, and the event temperament dice is 7 sided. The stuff, you know.

Ok, you don't know that you can't be plants anymore, and that the game has metashifted now. But it is the same at its core.

MAGMACUBE!!!!

Got scared?

So...

Here we are, again. Suprised? I am not.

Will this endless cycle of me opening games which never end, ever end?

I suppose there is only one way to find out.

So, I was inspired by that Be-The-Space-Emperor game. And this one takes after it, and also one of my similar creations, Galaxy of Gray. Oh yeah, and Stellaris because hey why not?

The premise is simple. There is a procedurally generated galaxy, its generators made all by me. There are 50 star systems and some few hundred worlds. Most are uninhabitable, some are. The galaxy will be generated as you discover systems one by one, so there won't be a clear view of its entirety unless you guys chart it all yourselves.

You guys will colonise and fight for the habitable planets, and may even terraform them into existence with enough resources. You may name them also, though they will have predetermined names. Their size (them being a moon or not) will also have effects on what you can do with them. Climate is flavor text.

The goal is to be the largest empire by the end of turn 40, or simply eliminating the others.

There can be treaties, you know, those weirdly formal signing stuff between you, and you will be managing your own resource and property counting. There can be alliances, co-inhabiting systems, or whatever things you allow between yourselves; I will only set the mechanics of the game here.

An empire form example below, feel free to copy and fill in.
Quote
Blablabla Empire
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Resource incomes are passive. A sector will keep dispensing resources every turn unless something interrupts it, without your active attention. If a sector loses its supply of food, it will simply stop working.

You need Minerals to build buildings and refine metal. Mining produce 3 minerals per turn.

You need Food to keep your empire going. Each sector takes 1 food each, and farming sectors produce 3 food, and dispense 2 after eating one themselves.

You need Metals to make ships and armies, construct defenses, and terraform worlds. Industrial sectors produce 2 metals out of 4 minerals.

A farming sector costs 5 minerals, A mining sectors costs 10, and a smelting sector costs 15.

A recruitment sector costs 10, and a shipyard costs 15. An army costs 4 metal, planetary defenses 6, and a fleet costs 8.

Terraformation costs 30 metal.

You can demolish and/or replace a sector with another if you wish.

Each fleet and army is essentially a combat turn. Each of them can only do one thing per turn, but more of them there are, more things you can do.

Those "one thing"s are attacking, charting, colonising and moving from one star system to another.

You can attack a planet with fleets and armies. You conquer planets when you land armies over them. A defensive construct and a defensive army makes that impossible and will have to be destroyed by a fleet before an army can land in. And those destructions cannot happen if there is a defending fleet in orbit of that planet, which must be destroyed first. Each of these destructions count as separate actions, but they can stack if there is multiple fleets involved.

You can chart with fleets, and colonise by armies.

I think I made myself clear here. If you have any questions, you can ask.

Begin.

The day in the fortress was calm. Forumites were foruming. The Toad was toading. And all was good.

That was, until Magmacube came along, coming in hot from the ceiling, breaking the stone. He had a wide grin on his face, as always, looking over the others who just stared at him dumbfoundedly.

"Hello guys! I have an idea! Let's play a game!"

Magmacube's fellows continued to stare at him uncomprehendingly. That didn't seem to faze the cube at all. He continued.

"Don'chu wanna battle to win a prize?"

"Well what is the prize?" Someone from the crowd asked.

"Myth and Magic Update."

Suddenly everyone was really excited, even ones who never played DF before in their lives. Everyone wanted to have the MAMU for themselves. Why? They didn't know! The damn cube probably casted some funky memetic spell with that last line!

"Get into 4 teams of 4!"

And the forumites began to group themselves.

This is an RTD heavily influenced by Battle For Dream Island series, and the setting of my cringe fanfic about us. Your prize is the fabled Myth and Magic Update, and the winner will have it.

You play as what your forum personas are, and get to choose a special quirk that matches your character (floating, fire breath and that stuff).

There are challenges you have to smart and luck through. At the end of each challenge, the team that performed the worst will be out up for Cake and Stake, where one of their members is diced/chosen and eliminated out of the game.

You can take as many actions as realistically possible both in practice and your capabilities in any given time, though actions too similar, serving the same purpose will be combined into the same roll and threated as re-rolls of a single action, respectively.

In-character talking is done among you, and will be out of my control. There may be an OOC thread if you so wish, and if not, then please use (()) to signify that you are OOC.

Dice rolls for actions are 6-sided, and the Cake at stake dices are 20-sided.

Begin.

You expected Novel...

But it was me, MAGMACUBE!

I kinda wanted to open a new game. And now I do. It is a sandbox game of sorts; think of this as kinda like Insula Numine (if you guys even remember that), but much less connected to player output and a much bigger emphasis on random outside influence. I took some notes on why my previous god game died, and now you guys will have to struggle to keep your stuff alive, and so will they do so, independant of you.

There is a barren, uninhabited, rather large volcanic island in the middle of the ocean. It isn't exactly one singular island, there are a couple islets around it. The island is nameless, though you may come up with a name for it if you so wish.

The island is brand new. It is all basalt collumns and gravel flats. There is a single volcanic mountain at the very center of the island, but other than a few hill clusters, it is mostly flat.

Living things on the island at the moment are nothing but a few, scraggly bushes and mosses along the rocky cliff-shores and oceanic seabirds perching and nesting at the coasts, along with a few penguins, small fish and seals. Maybe even a shark or two.

You live here. You look after here. You are the nameless, ethereal god-spirits of the island. You have no mother, nor father. You assume and personify aspects the world as your personal essences. You, while partial to the island as its many souls, are also ephemeral and liminal in your physical forms and direct influence, coming and going as quickly as you appear.

Think of yourselves as those stereotypical ancient Celtic forest gods, or just a fairer Leshy, and we are good to go.

You have one, single, influential and worldly action to do per turn, all else, such as making observations, appearing and talking in dreams or such are completely free game. I encourage that you choose a color for yourselves when you join in. But you don't have to.

Each turn is a millenia of time for now.

I will introduce new stuff every turn, ranging from good, to bad and to the ugly. So buckle up guys. And do whatever you want!

I have bought and butchered about 4 different giant animals for food. But the dwarves, after hauling the meats to the correct stockpile, just completely ignore them. There is a 123 stack of giant moose meat, 56 gigantic panda meat, 31 giant snail meat and 35 giant cougar meat, all unbarreled, and sitting untouched in the food stockpile.

How do I get the dorfs to cook them up instead of asparagus and bayberries?

Short answer: no

Long answer: yes

Okay, guys. I need a little bit of guidance on where to take to his game I want to make. It is a simple game about evolution. I feel the meta is too crowded by the same game formats and copies of games that already exist, so why not something else for a change?

It is inspired by Spore, SALRE, and TF2. Players will be able to get different body parts and each of those will have different advantages and disadvantages, such as a long neck that significantly reduces your speed but also allows you to reach to treetops for food.

I will post some updates here as I go about making the game. I dunno where I am going with it, really.

The Info About the Poll

Okay. I know I failed miserably as a GM, and never managed to finish a game entirely.

But this one will be different! Or not! Time will tell!

I tried further to refine the niches and shrunk the game. Got rid of the old redundant niche table and nonsensical niche jumping mechanics that resembled cobweb.

Anyways, lets hope this one doesn't flops or collapses under its own complexity.

The premise is very simple. There is a small archipelago with an all year round, temperate climate. You play as species of plants and animals, evolving and diversifying on these islands as the game goes.

The islands are small and uniform in tempature, so is the games scope. Each biome may have only up to 3 species of plant, and 12 species of animals, depending on the biome. And islands have three biomes, at most. And there are 5 islands only (Thought they may combine and separate like jigsaw puzzles. They move and their climate may change as they do).

You can make 5 moves each turn, and moves will have a 10 sided dice for determining the amount of success. There will be modifiers you can evolve such as herbivory, flight and climbing, which will affect the roll results positively or negatively.

You choose which lineage yours will extend emerge from, and once you do in-game, you are stuck with it until it goes extinct.

You may be familiar with how to play. You make new species to fill in empty niches and fight for occupied ones and claim or keep them by rolling a higher number than your opponent in a versus sequence. But there is now bit more nuance to this.

Lets begin with removals.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, it is for what is now new.

You can now play as plants. They are less diverse by nature, and have a lower player count.

In order for a niche to be available, it needs its pre-requisites to be fullfilled. Such as predator niche requiring a herbivore to be present in a biome to be available, or herbivore niche needing a plant. Tree niche requires fertile ground, while anything arboreal requires trees themselves.

You got the point. Just use logic in that. An exception is if a predator and prey, or any other species linked with dependancy speciates to the same space at the same time. Then the current absence of the required species can be ignored. If the prey fail ls to speciate in that turn, however, then the predator automatically fails as well.

And there are the modifiers. A species needs specific adaptations to occupy niches. Anything arboreal requires arboreality, herbivory and carnivory also requires the same thing. Flight requires gliding to evolve first, and gliding comes from arboreality. A plant species first needs to be a bush to become a tree. To be terrestrial, you need the terrestrial adaptation.

You understand.

And adaptation doesn't needs to be repeated; an arboreal species may speciate into other forests, and the new species will inherit the adaptation, free of charge. same thing with others. If you want to evolve into a different direction, then a new adaptation will have to evolve and replace the one before. You can have more than one adaptations in a clade; most niches require that. But those adaptations cannot be in the same category. You can't have a both arboreal and terrestrial, or both a carnivore and an omnivore animal.

To be able to invade an existing niche, the invading species needs to already be in that same niche. An arboreal herbivore can only be competed by another species of such, not a ground or flying one. This will result in gradual monopolies on niches if left uninterrupted, I know. But mass or local extinctions should shake things up to prevent that.

You can use multiple points on one action. This grants you two rolls on that action. If the first roll fails, there will be another roll. Maximum multiroll count is three times. You can't roll five times in a single action.

There are biomes, as discussed. Here are the types of biomes and their available niches. Each has 3 functionally identical tempature variations; hot, lukewarm and cold.

Forest: Centers of biodiversity. Has the most available niches. They are only found along a river or a lake. Needs terrestriality to be lived on.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shrubland: The basic variety biome, where there isn't a forest, there is a shrubland. Needs terrestriality to be lived on.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Rivers and Lakes: Is included in the biome cap of 3, despite being inside a biome by itself. It requires freshwater adaptation to dwell in.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sea: Surrounds an island as a single biome, and does not count in the biome cap. Includes the shores. Every island has one. Requires saltwater adaptation to dwell in.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mountains: Found at the centers of some islands. Altitude adaptation is needed to live in them. Their tempature is always one notch lower then their islands. A hot island mountain will be lukewarm, a lukewarm island mountain will be cold, and cold mountains will be, well, also cold.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the list of clade adaptations, or tokens as I like to call them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tempature token changes and subsequent dice rolls for success will happen automatically if the local climate changes. They will most likely be mass changes and a significant amount of species will go extinct in the process.

Cladograms must be done by players themselves. Just make the tree of your own clade. This way, the task of making the tree can fall into 10 hands instead of one. You can do it with painting or just text. Just have it orderly.
