DF Suggestions / Queueing production with the [b]uild menu
« on: June 24, 2012, 05:07:57 pm »
I'm not sure if this has been suggested before since I couldn't really think of a different way to phrase this, but it would be neat if you could, after having assigned a manager, assign buildings which you don't have the object for yet to be placed, and have the manager see you requisitioned one or more in such a way and have him assign the orders to make them and have them placed whenever they are done. If that didn't make sense, I'll give an example; You have no beds, but you need a ton and you already know where they will go. So you open up (b)uild and go to (b)ed. Instead of saying "Needs bed" it would be the item select screen where you would normally choose which bed you want to place, but with an option for "queue bed to be made and placed." Hit that, and a bed gets added to your management queue and will be placed there whenever it gets accepted and made. Something like this would make fortress design much more fluid in my opinion, since I routinely make spaces for things and then forget exactly what I wanted where when I have to make the 200 some odd beds and 200 some odd cabinets and coffers, etc...

Wow, I even check the wiki but the first page it brought up was for DF2010 and I probably didn't notice. Thanks much.

I have loads of Rhyolite, and even if that is as of the new version magma unsafe, I have a lot of tetrahedrite as well which I would think is magma safe.

DF Gameplay Questions / Need access to magma-safe non-economic item
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:42:32 pm »
Just came back to DF after not playing for a while since I heard a whole bunch of cool goodies were added since last time I played, and I embarked on a Volcano with play now! and I cannot for the life of me build anything magma related. I can select them but I always get the title's name error. There are no locked doors in the way, an abundance of stones, nothing forbidden, they can reach the area and build other workshops in the exact same place, I've tried everything!

I was always partial to "It's like The Sims, except instead of buying sofas, you die."
Although that was from the 2d version where staying alive was a bit more challenging.
(Without mods of course)

Yep. Cave spiders are vermin, and vermin teleport around as opposed to actually moving.

I'm fairly sure I read once that washing dwarves only adds a coating of water, and doesn't clean anything. But I may be wrong.

Nah he can still be useful. Stick him in a bed near the entrance and you have a cheap kobold catcher.

I can't give you any advice other than this isn't the right section. You want modding.

This is the best thread ever.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The end of your first fortress?

I remember my first fortress well. 20 Seconds after I unpaused my horse went berserk and killed ever single one of my Dwarves.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Is old age a threat for human towns
« on: September 09, 2008, 05:39:28 pm »
Step 1: leave computer running overnight so 100 years pass in dwarf mode (be sure to stockpile lots of food!).

Step 2: visit towns in adventure mode and collect all the loot from the humans who spontaneously drop dead when you arrive.

Step 3: ???

Step 4: Profit!!!

Fixed that for you.
