I use a shard of glass to slash Moocowmoo's prehensile penis, to hopefully cause him to fall to his death.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Cats
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:25:45 pm »
this topic reminded me how i once wanted to train someone up to champion level, outfit them in masterwork/artifact armour, arm them with an axe, and let them be adopted by every cat in the fortress.

i'd planned to dump all the cats onto a bridge by a volcano, then launch them into it send them on a mystical journey, before leaving the guy to take his anger out on the fortress.

of course, this didn't work, because they all adopted a butcher or something and my war dogs had all been allocated to the rest of the military already, so i replaced the cats with his family.

then i launched the guy and his cats in after them for ruining my plan.

the champion didn't go berserk from this, like i hoped, and later died when he dodged into the volcano while fighting a kobold or a goblin or something.

this is why i don't like cats in my fortress.

it's not a 2:1 ratio for gene engineering. i just got able to splice L20's, at 15 skill, so it's looking more like Engineering Skill + 5. Soon, i'll splice the L25 skeleton berskerer and L30 shade i got back to back from ally scrolls. (followed by six assorted plants and mushrooms.)

Okay, so i captured an Asura, the four armed thing i mentioned before.
It came at L12, so i'm assuming you'd want a L12 monster ball to capture one yourself, 15 to be safe, i used a 28, as it was all i had on hand.

It came armed with four daggers, that i forgot to re-equip it with when i got it examined, so, another 10K later after IDing its daggers, just to see what its stats look like with them, i get the following:

Str: 51   -    Ler: 13
Con: 45   -    Wil: 16
Dex: 44   -    Mag: 15
Per: 17   -    Chr: 15

90% HP, 70% Mana, Speed 86.

Melee: 94%, 78%, 63%, 48% (Four attacks a round, basically, with its current daggers.)
Evade and such is unimportant right now, and for its noteworthy skills, at least as far as i'd assume you'd want to know, it has...

Tactics, Dual Wield (50!), Evasion, Greater Evasion, and, alsorts of other skills like weapons and armour ones, and so forth.

It has Four hands, Neck, Ranged Weapon/Ammo Slots.
I think i just found my new bodyguard pet to keep my fairy pianist standing. right after i get some ally scrolls and splice away, to make it able to wear armour.

I've no idea to be honest. I'm sure it's not a 1:1 ratio though, as i was combining L11 creatures around 6 skill, or something like that. I've not watched too closely though. I know at 11 i couldn't combine my L25 pet with anything, though.

the gene machine adds attributes from the second choice you make, to the first one you make.

so, say you have a little girl and a infantry person, the little girl selected first, infantry second, the little girl will gain skills she doesn't have, experience potentially if the second selection's a higher level, and possible attribute boosts.

if you're splicing two non-humanoid's together (say, a putit and a hound.) then you can also add body slots that the other is 'missing' from the one you're adding to them, though i'm not sure if you can add multiple amounts of the same slot, like if you capture one of those four armed things to add to whatever else.

though, you'd be able to add body slots and such to one of them, i'd assume, so you can put armour on them. i need to try that now.

finally, your gene skill also affects the level of the pets that you can splice together. if you don't have enough skill, you can't splice a L25 pet with something else, after all.

halberd's increase polearm skill, i know that after buying one to test, given i wanted to trade for a very nice halberd for my axe using warrior pet, from some adventurer or other.

i'm suprised to see this topic going still.

Go through the options and you can increase the view area to 800x600, and yes, combat's much a case of target something while in war mode and swing at it until you've killed it, it's killed you or you brave sir robin on it.

Dying isn't such a big issue at least, as here if you 'die' you get knocked out the first two times and if you die a third time within 20 minutes, then you actually 'die', and have to run back to get your stuff from your body.

Skills are not a big issue either. sure, they raise fast to begin with, and will rise slower and slower over time, but, when you hit 900 total skills, you can set skills up/down to allow the ones pointed down to drop, while any up one you train will raise in its place.

I have to admit though, i'm jealous, i seem to be the one of the few who didn't get a welcome and tour when i started there.

I've been busy and such lately, but i'll hop back on, ready to play my dwarf some time soon.

oh, and if you know who you're looking for (Zon in my case, Monom in Ham's case.) you can find them if they're on, by using .online to bring up a player list to send them a PM.

They gave players a skill cap of 900 here, so you can dedicate 700 to a typical warrior build easily enough, and use 200 for mining/smithing, like any self respecting build, that's what i'm doing.

Of course, if you want a high damage setup, go with swordsmanship and lumberjacking, as all but one axe uses swords skill (War Axes use mace fighting.) as lumberjacking adds an additional percentage of damage with an axe. even a hatchet with a shield is high damage, that way, though many axes can't be wielded with a shield due to being two handers.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: lost workshop profiles

I *think* this is linked to the manager position. Try setting one of your dwarves (under 'n' i believe.) to the position if there isn't already one. One with the appropriate skills would work best, i'd assume, though i could easily be wrong about it being this.

Oh, we're fine Deon, just been wondering if you're the one who's okay.

Just to fill you in on things, though, because of us, several more people have started playing dwarves it seems, and in character, we keep talking about how you acted 'mighty elvish' after drinking too much water, and how we haven't seen you since, so, we'll act suprised and make a big fuss when you return.

Oh, and Ham, when you've got the first pass on the dwarf article handled, could you PM me it?
That way i can see if there's room for me to have a go at elaborating on it and such, or if i'm going to have to admit defeat, because I can't improve on it.

as they say on their wiki... some place.. apply for the trial account, then download the patches and such, stick the patches in the base dir for UO, and stick their logon server's info into razor.

then you just start razor to log into it each time. or something like that.

check their wiki for links to the client and such though, as they tell you what to do relatively clearly there.

download page.

According to their wiki, it does look pretty colossus like, given it only takes 30% physical damage.
