Other Games / Re: Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. Or: THAT DAMN SIGMUND.

Ok, so I take my orcish horde into the elven halls, but the lazy sots won't fight!  They just stand around and occasionally hit an elf zombie, and die a lot....  Are they a bunch of elf fanciers or is there something I'm missing?

I know I can tell them to fight one target, but that's not terribly effective...Why won't they just aggro on nearest elf?

Easiest way to cheat on death is ctrl+alt+del and endtask the dwarf fortress app.  Not that I employ it very much or anything....

I especially don't do it when walking along minding my own business and an iron bolt comes flying from nowhere and pokes my throat out.

Also, you can only fertilize outside plots.  You can make an outside plot inside just below the surface, by channeling out the ceiling (and building floors over it if you want).

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Drink = Food?

You can COOK food from booze at the kitchen.

You just need to make sure booze is turned on for cooking in the status [z] screen.

Ramps work like:

On the lower level have a wall next to the ramp that is not there on the upper level.  The dwarf will step onto the ramp and move towards the wall, traversing to the next level at the same time, thusly going "up the ramp".

They make sense once you play in adventurer and wander around in a mountain halls for a while.

Check the q menu for the farmer workshop to be sure the job you need is what you think it is.

Turning off everything but that job is about all you can do to hurry it along.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Abandonment

They don't die, they stay at the fort site.  If you go back in adventurer or reclaim mode they will all still be there, along with whatever goblins and wildlife were there when you abandoned.

Hey, it worked!  Now I have a bunch of new best friends who tantrum constantly bbecause somebody got eaten by a spider, and all my old dwarves wandering around like zombies.

Also, unforbidding everything?  Is there a way to just do it?  I think I'm going to break my f key before I'm done.

Thanks for the replies!

DF Gameplay Questions / Accidental abandonation

So the wife saved the game for me, and of course also abandoned the fortress...

I had lava, running water, sand, gobbos constantly attacking, rivers of blood, dead merchants, lots and lots of fun!

It was only year three, so I don't mind reclaiming, just how the heck am I ever going to find where it was???

Anybody?? Please help?  That lava took SO LONG to flow to my forges and whatnot, I don't wanna do it again just yet!

Also, set up a dwarf making rock crafts/toys/whatnot at a craftsdwarf workshop.  By fall you will probably be able to just buy all the food from the traders with the trinkets you make.  That alone will yield most of what you need to make it thru.

I've seen grudges.  I've also seen unhappy thoughts about having to "tolerate an annoying person" or somesuch.

The profit they require is determined by the skill of your trader.  They may need as much as 50% markup to take your trade.

You can get migrants in the first year, but they quite often don't show up until the spring of the next year.

Ok, I'm confused.  I think my dwarf is too.

He went and grabbed the Lungfish bones right away, then said he needed .

So now he's constructing, and he has added cat bones and granite...??

The cats were slaughtered by a goblin ambush before the mood, and the granite ???

Eh, who knows.  I'm just glad I don't have to lose another dwarf.  Those damn goblins killed 7 and 3 more are lying up in the rain unconscious with random broken bits.
