DF General Discussion / Re: Megaconstrucation: Fire Ocean
« on: September 18, 2008, 09:35:19 pm »
Always remember before unleashing the magma, GO OVER EVERY STEP OF YOUR PLAN!

Never think.  Just do.

Mr. Miyagi/Yoda never dealt with an ocean of burning death. Well, perhaps Yoda. And Mr. Miyagi did live on volcanic islands...

Bah, they never figured their students would have to deal with such things. I'm sure Vader would avoid lava pits like the plague.

Crewman: Lord Vader, it appears the 498th fell into a magma pool...
Vader: NEVER SPEAK OF THAT GEOLOGICAL FEATURE AGAIN! I'll CHOKE you with the mechanical limbs that were given to me after the magma took my first ones!

Urist McMacedwarf: I've got an Iron Morningstar. The blood of my enemies is caked onto it. Can't get more awesome than this.
Kogan McWrestler: I got a Glass Spiked Ball. I throw it at enemies, watching them get trapped in the swinging chain before the spiked ball carves their face in.
Urist: Damnit, and I thought the best you could do was beat that goblin with his own thong. Without taking 'is pants off.

A way you can do it with little no injury chance:

Get him in an area covered with cadge traps. Not one tile can be un-trapped. Once trapped(In the general area, not in a cadge), collapse a wall or floor nearby. The dust will knock most anything out, making them elidgable for trapping. Thats how I trapped my own dwarves for whatever reason I did that.

(that, and because the only organic part remaining is the brain, so gender would make ~0 difference).

Bah, it doesn't make much of a difference WHATEVER you are.

 Nah, it's good.

Seems Ko is the sensible one of the group. Odd trait to find in a Melee Masher. then again, he is likely very religious.

 Ko: Damn, more lizards...
Villager: The priests are being attacked!
 Ko: GLARRGLLH! MUST DIE!

Gah, just now I was somehow swarmed with imps on level 3. Thats not a problem, as they go down fast. However, their fireball is fatal to lower level people. I only survived that(To die to an Acid Dragon) because I used one of my 5 polymorph wands.

It started with Moogie.  When all the women saw her and her awesome artifact sketch thread, they just flocked over.
(Moogie: If you're actually NOT female, my apologies, I thought I remembered posts by you stating such)

I believe she is of the female gender and referred to herself as such numerous times.

Of course, I would imagine lots of girls would keep it neutral in their profile. This is the internet mind you. Although DF seems to attract people who have better uses of their times other than trying to seduce hypothetical girls at a hypothetical location for a hypothetical relationship. Damn you, general population of the internet!

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Player Demographics?
« on: September 18, 2008, 04:00:39 pm »
Damn am I the youngest... I am 12 turning 13 next year and all my friends make fun of me because the dwarfs are smiles and the game is in ASCII graphics.

But I am a lot more mature then 12...

(still can't believe I am the youngest...)

12!!!1! I never thought anybody that young could understand DF.

are you saying I am stupid or 12 year old people (like myself) are stupid?

You must understand that is the age boys turn into stupid teens. Generally, we get obsessed with trendy things and chatspeak, taking no consideration to common sense or consideration for others.

We generally don't grow out of it 'till the mid-twenties or only a brief one-year stint of chatspeak+trendiness. That one year is around preteen to early teens.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Fortress Mode exploring and Levers?
« on: September 18, 2008, 03:28:51 pm »

 Yup.

(I)nteract. You need to be on the lever for it to work I believe.

I have had fun making a min-dungeon with a lever that collapses part of it, blocking the way in and starting a flood of the lower levels. You must journey through these lower parts quickly before they fill, and find a now-opened entrance.

Not too many monsters, but it was fine.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Tree growth?
« on: September 18, 2008, 03:23:34 pm »

Toady stated there is a local moisture value, which trees take up. Thus around each tree is a ring of space where trees can't grow.

Interesting how Toady tracks the moisture of the soil.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Init setting implimentation
« on: September 18, 2008, 01:24:06 pm »

Init settings working with anything but generating a world can be changed. You need to re-start DF, but you don't need a new world.

Raw files are a bit trickier. If you modify an existing creature/object/reaction/mineral, you can just restart DF and have it take effect. Making a new creature/object/reaction/mineral requires a new world to be made.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Curses! Foiled by the resolution!
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:19:29 am »

 Huzzah! That did it!

But what the hell did I use before? I had to save a 12x12 character set to make it work. Didn't need that before.

 Eh, whatever. It works now.

So what tiles could I fit on my screen at 80 grid?

And doesn't the vanilla resolution use less than 80 y tiles?
