Perhaps more... cave-like caves. The ones we have now are more like webbing roots of a tree. Less halls, larger halls and a few rooms scattered about. Perhaps even a few pools(Water, magma, whatever else we can liquify!)

Heck, perhaps towns, dwarf halls and towns could tap into caves in their basement. Like some of the tombs in Morrowind.

Actually, this would be a bit more useful for people using patrols. Then you can assign a patrol route once and have multiple squads use it.

Urist Fireblazes has been content lately. He has lit a good fire recently. He has cackled recently.
He is a worshiper of Koganbal, diety of fire and lava.
He likes lighting things on fire, fire rubies, Bauxite, Forges, coal and imps for their living place.

Although with this there needs to be a way of designating jobs to be done for a specific quality. So you could have the master miners clear out the gem veins and the hobbyists make new stockpile rooms.

That and ban specific materials for hobbyists. "Wood shall only be used by our carpenters, nobody else!"

But other than that, sounds good.

When I first saw this thread, I thought "Wait, where are the stats for that artifact?"

Anyway, it has been suggested in the form of a pedestal. I personally like pedestals, as that implies more things can be put on them(Precious gems, masterpieces, artifacts, etc) and could even be trapped.

But we do need ways of showing off our artifacts.

I would imagine it would be like a long pressure plate with no sensitivity to liquids to make up for the fact that it's larger than a pressure plate.

I don't want to deal with three pressure plates for my caravan entrance.

So basically, a half-channel that does not effect the lower z-level.

I like it. Although it needs some limitation to account for not punching through a z-level. Perhaps it can only hold a specific depth? Heck, it could be used for fences for people wanting walls but don't have the time.

Lots of possible uses for trenches/ditches.

Perhaps more fleshed-out rivers? Like sources from glaciers and glaciers in mountains?

But yes, deltas would grand. I imagine it to look like a river source except the little spikes of river lead into a body of water. And several z-levels of soil despite the biome.

Perhaps have it so you cannot create particularly amazing products from such workshops? I imagine in a company there is little room for creativity that leads to amazing products, so for your legendaries you need single workshops.

Is that an or I see? Not very Dwarvenly. REAL dwarves would have an 'and' there.

I imagine there would be a fortress build with something similar to the Aladdin lamp sequence.

Two things wrong with that scene.

1. That head, when hit by such a weapon, would be drilling a hole through every layer of rock, atmosphere and perhaps a low-flying space-rock in whicher direction it flew.

2. Using such a weapon on an entire fort will cause so many dill-holes from the corpses that it would collapse, trapping the miner underneath the swiss-cheese fort.

The sad thing is, you could get similar results with a bone artifact pick.
