I seem to have become unable to get prisoners, for some reason :S, my prisoner management skill is at 3, and I knock a fair number of enemies down fighting small mirkwood, rivendell and lothlorien patrols but it seems the game skips the prisoner screen entirely. Missing alot of resource points with that :C

I know that in the old TLD, orcs were incapable of taking elves as prisoners. I expect that is still the case.

Hercule Poirot is a Belgian detective not a French detective. Being very knowledgeable about fictional detectives, Jane should know this stuff.

Homestuck has officially jumped the shark.

It's located on the server you play on.  So, yeah, you can't delete it.

So does that mean I'll be constantly making new characters in a world of constantly diminishing supplies then? Or will it generate a new map every time I generate a new character rather than use a template?

No, to both. Every character made on the server until Eronarn updates and wipes the save folder will play in the same world, but more world is generated simply by walking into one of the edges. So, running out of supplies shouldn't be a problem.

So what if I were to use a change material kit on it?

The wiki says "Additionally, using a material kit/scroll on any item marked as 'precious' (non-randomly generated artifacts such as the Ring of Steel Dragon or Ragnarok), regardless of whether it is miracle/godly, will not change the material, but instead will reroll the item completely. This usually has little result, but might change one or two of the modifiers on the item assigned randomly."

Does that mean it might change the material and not too many modifiers?

No, you can't change the material on special items.

The ether disease from ether items isn't actually all that bad. I always wear a vindale cloak, and I only equip the ether dagger before going into tough fights.

I don't think blaze is right about it not generating until you kill them. I've used pickpocket to check bards inventories before, and seen a Stradivarius in there.

I think how it works is that all bards inventories are static, and they will always have one musical instrument. If you kill them, and they don't drop their musical instrument, they will just respawn with the same one. But, if you kill them and they drop their musical instrument, when they generate next, they will have a new instrument, which might include a Stradivarius.

Obviously this makes kill them to get a strad a long and tedious process, but you can speed it up if you have pickpocket. By pickpocketing their musical instrument they will generate a new one, and you can repeat this until you get a strad.

If you don't have high pickpocket, you can wait for the winter festival in Noyel. The festival will generate 6+ fresh bards, killing them all gives you a very good chance of getting the strad. I got two strads from my first festival. If you don't get any, and you're not averse to some scummy gameplay, you can backup your save before entering Noyel and reload the backup if you don't get a strad.

So New Guy, does that mean the bow and the dagger are gone forever?

The dagger and the bow will both always spawn in Lomias' and Larnniere's inventory in the beginning of the game. You can get both artifacts at any time by killing them, unless you've told them to leave your house. You will encounter Lomias plenty of times in party time quests, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting his bow. But you will likely never encounter Larnniere again. Which is a real shame because her ether dagger totally rocks. It's probably the best weapon for fairy dual wielding with the lucky dagger.

That's why I always use the free nuke from the red blossom quest to kill those meddlesome elves in the beginning of the game.

I'd strongly advise playing both versions, the stable one and the beta, only because they feature completely different music.

No they don't. You're probably just missing the mp3 pack.

So what version do you guys play? I downloaded the beta 1.22 because I didn't want to miss out on any new features.  Hopefully there aren't too many bugs.

I used the original 1.22 without the fanpatch and worked around the bugs. Now that there's a 1.22 fanpatch, I'm using that. I've clocked hundreds of hours into the patched 1.22, and I have yet to encounter a single bug.

You're really best off using 1.22 with the patch.

How can i see if a pet is in overweighted state ?
I noticed that most of my minions when i look at their inventory are at "Medium" , so being the same as what is mentionned for my character i assume it's burden status too, but one of my trooper is on "Heavy" , is that overweight status ?

The "medium" and "heavy" indicators on your pets inventory are not about carrying capacity, rather they indicate whether your pet is currently using light, medium, or heavy armor. Which is determined solely by total equipment weight.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I don't know how you could tell your pets maximum carrying capacity, or if it's even possible.

I don't think that's completely true actually, or there are other factor added for NPC's. The golden knight, for instance, has a maximum carrying capacity of 270s, despite only having 29 STR, 29 CON and no weight lifting.

As far as I know, there's no way to tell your pets carrying capacity.

"Skill" is your skill in the weapon's category (bashing, cutting, piercing, unarmed), plus your melee skill / 2.5.  If the weapon belongs in more than more than one category, your strongest skill is used.

Note that this table is incomplete; Dexterity of less than 5 provides even worse chances, and Dexteirty of greater than 11 even better chances.

This new crit system means that batons are much better than rocks, despite having lower base damage ;)

Does this new critical hit code affect ranged weapons, or is it just a melee change?

When using several scrolls of inferior material to convert a very nice axe i found thanks to a treasure map but that was way too heavy to use for my Fairy, i noticed that during the conversion process it went from bronze to silver, like if silver was of lower quality than bronze.

Is that really true in Elona, a silver item is of lower material quality than a bronze one ? or is that some 1.22 bug ?

Scrolls of inferior material do not explicitly transmute equipment into a material that is directly inferior to its current material. Rather, they randomly transmute it into a "inferior" material.

See this list.

Silver is actually better than bronze.

I stand corrected.
Though I have memories of extended periods scumming stairs in one of the versions in the puppy cave for books, I can't trust memories that're potentially years old by now to exactly be accurate.

I am quite certain that using stairs did not always cost stamina.

Will do that, as even with my army of little sisters (can't imagine how even harder it would be if i didn't bought all of those slaves), my Fairy is definitively not good for surviving in dungeons (as unfortunately the companion AI does not attack enemies on their own, i need to deal the 1st hit apparently, with a chance to get then oneshot-ed, and i did lost my fairy multiple times due to this, losing then lot of money when coming back).

You can order your companions to attack something by targeting it with the "*" key.

You can mark weapons uppercase M and O for main hand, off-hand for melee, uppercase R and A for ranged and ammunition, and then press "-" to switch between them. Also, one of my favorite feats for rogues is necrophysiology, which let's you get crits and sneak attacks on undead. You need 10 undead knowledge skill first, though, so I think you need to start with 18 int if you want it at level 3.

Yeah, I'm aware of the weapon switching option, but even that takes way too long.

Thanks for the information about that feat, though that's just one more skill for me to learn. :-\

Re: Use magic: Make sure the wand you're trying to use is in a shoulder or belt slot.

If you're using them from inside your pack, it adds extra time to the action, as you're having to remove it from the pack then use it. This applies to everything, by the by, though force backpacks lessen the time malus. If you're really insistent about swapping weapons or using stuff from your pack often, consider the quick draw and faster than the eye feats, and keep whatever weapons you intend to swap out outside of your pack.

Doh, I completely forgot about that. Thanks. Though that doesn't apply to my weapon switching, as I always keep those in my shoulder slots.

For your particular build, you could also switch in weapon finesse for either of your starting feats instead, and just ignore range.

Yeah, I'd take weapon finesse if I could, but for some inscrutable reason, weapon finesse requires a base attack bonus of 1, so rogues can't take it at first level.

Your cha is... dangerously low. If you have any stat below 7, you're risking a stat-death via curse, which can give a -6 luck penalty to a stat. There's also some cha damaging diseases, iirc.

Huh, I'd forgotten about charisma death. I guess I'll just have to even out my charisma and wisdom again and drop light sleeper.

EDIT: I also forgot that I'm taking knowledge(magic), is this really all that useful of a skill? I'd heard that you can use it to research items at a library.

Well, that character just died. It wasn't his constitution that doomed him, as much as the fact that I ran out of potions of dimension door, and I just realized I forgot to tumble. :-[

The build I'm using at the moment is:

Drow Rogue

STR   12(11)
DEX   18(20)
CON   14
INT   18(20)
WIS   13
CHA   3(5)
LUC   8

I have appraise, decipher script, handle device, hide in shadows, listen, lockpicking, move silently, searching, tumble, knowledge(magic), and use magic as skills. I get sneaky and light sleeper at level 1, and pick up weapon finesse at level 3. I suppose I'd get two weapon style once I get to level 6, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

I'm not sold on the usefulness of use magic, every time I've tried to use a wand in combat all of the enemies get a pile of free hits on me.

One problem I have is how long it takes to switch from ranged to melee weapons, if I'm sniping at something with my bow, and it gets within melee range, I can't switch to my melee weapon without them hitting me several times. So I just have to chug a potion of dimension door, and I'm always running out of those things.

It seems like once something has caught me in melee, and I don't have much hope of defeating it, my only option is dimension door.

Does anyone have any advice about that, or about the rest of my build?

Maybe I need to train alchemy to get more of those potions...

I notice that on my stat sheet it says that 6 of the stat points I'm missing are from "luck". What does that mean and how do I fix it?
