Hey guys, Future got us a trade deal. We're selling bread for leather on a 1-to-1 basis. We need a lot of leather, and making leather is a lot of work (try filling one of those tubs if you don't believe me), so it's quite a good deal. However, this means we need to save up at least 20 bread because Lakeside only wants to trade in bulk. So please, include some apples in your diet. It's a minor inconvenience, and it means we'll all have backpacks much sooner, which will substantially increase our efficiency. Not to mention we'll have more quivers, which will do wonders for our hunters - they should be able to go to stockpile and exchange an empty quiver for a full one whenever they need to.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't eat bread at all, but please don't make it your whole diet. Eating just one food type is bad for you, anyway.

Are they coming to us, or are we coming to them?

I can't seem to burn my clay items in my kiln. I have the bar on the side full, the items inside, the oven lit. Been waiting for a long while.

Is it an oven or a kiln?

Oh my god.

"You begins to feel good when being hit hard."

"Lily has finishes eating marmoggia. Lily now begins to feel good when being hit hard"

Has both of us become Tenshi* or something?

*a Masochist.

Argh! Gratuitous Japanese!

"You begins to feel good when being hit hard." is a humorous, perhaps intentional, translation. It means that your constitution went up.

I got quite a bit accomplished tonight. I finished making the rest of the crucibles, but I didn't fill anymore up. Luck just wasn't with me when processing the blooms. But, the finery is full of cast iron bars, and the basket behind the forge has five bars. Two of the smelters are full and smelting.

I've also made four straw baskets for holding branches to fuel the crucibles, which brings me to the.

In order to make steel the crucibles have to be kept lit for 52 hours.

They have enough fuel to stay lit for 12 hours before going out. Do not let this happen. If they go out, it starts all over.

It is very important that everyone in Bottleneck check the crucibles every few hours and top them off with branches. There is an apple tree 10 seconds journey along the path south of the crucibles. It should only take a minute to fill up on branches and pop one in each crucible.

Thank you.

Alright, after today I got a few ideas about the town:

 1. Food processing needs to be optimized. And understood by all. I'll likely make a chart of the various stockpiles involved later, but understand we just need more farms. If we have enough farms to keep a farmer busy for a good ten minutes of nonstop farming, then we are doing good.
 2. Foxes and boars seem to completely stop all activity. Unless there happens to be a hunter nearby, they can stop our food industry. I propose a wall of sorts. It will be costly, but with it up we can funnel wildlife to the two or three entrances to the town.
 3. Paths need to be at least two wide. We must enforce this, or else massive traffic jams result.

2. A wall really wouldn't do much good. Most of the problems with wildlife are caused by foxes or boar spawning inside the town, not by animals wandering in.

3. I think three wide would be better, more symmetrical. Of course, I always make hallways three wide in DF.

There are still three apple tree pretty close to Bottleneck. They are just west of the smelters.

The person who chopped down the apple trees has apologized on the H&H forums here.

Was out for a few days there, but I should be back at things tonight...

What's it take to handle the fox threat?

By handle do you mean kill them?

Or, do you mean live in Bottleneck?

Has anyone gotten anywhere with tea production?

I used to play Blades of Exile hardcore... unlocked tons of shit, and my weakass mage begin destroying shit with fireball ->firestorm rendering my melee characters obsolete until they got uber gear.

Good times. I should buy that series just for the editor...

I suppose I should mention that BoE was released as open-source a while ago. The source code is here, and you can download compiled versions here.

And Avernum is awesome. I own the entire series, and I am SO excited about Avernm 6.

I wonder if he is going to wrap up a lot of question I've had about Avernum.

Something I've been wondering about for a while is the old crypts I found in the caves north of the fort Avernum cavern, The old human crypts.

Avernum to me is Underground Diversity Arc.

I've found three apple trees just southwest of town. There are pretty close to the mining area.

I'm moving a threatening runestone to them right now.

Argh! Someone need to kill these freakin foxes!

One of them is aggroing me so I can't log out. I am trapped under a runestone, and another fox in the area keep knocking me out! He's gonna kill me pretty quick.

I need help NOW.

Well, shit. I fed entirely on that tree. And took the branches to fuel cooking from it.

Goddamn griefers. We'll need more foragers. And wee need to expand on wheat.

Argh! This really bites. I needed those trees for branches to make fires in the mines and fuel the kilns!

We almost need a dedicated branch hauler now.

We WILL need a lot of branch hauling in the future, once we finish our many crucibles.

To make steel you need to put wrought iron and charcoal in the crucible and keep the crucible lit for 52 HOURS. Luckily, the crucible can be fueled with branches. This means we will need a lot of dedicated branch hauling.

The perpetrator has a female avatar with a chef's hat (hat may not be on at all times, though). Track down and permakill. If you can't kill her yourself, inform the rest of us about her location.

Next time you see someone commit a crime, right click on them and chat. That is the best way of learning their name. I hope you aren't suggesting hunting down and killing every female in Bottleneck.

With the new stone roads, we need a mason to work on paving all our roads.

Metal working and smithing has just been given a major overhaul. There now seem to three kinds of metals. Steel, Cast Iron, and Wrought Iron. There is also a new skill: Steelmaking. And some new buildings to go with it.

Fear not! As the village smith I shall master this new technology for the glory of Armok!

Oh and: "Battle axe of the Twelfth Bay" :)

Link to the topic about it.

Apparently stones can be used to pave roads.

I have joined up as miner/smelter/woodburner/smith. I have already made a miners helmet and mined three loads of ore. I also put some straw baskets in the smithing area to hold ore, bars, and charcoal.

Another job I noticed that needs filling is a tanner. There are many dry hides that need tanning.
