Life Advice / Is there a way to fix Razor headsets?
« on: January 19, 2016, 01:38:17 pm »
So I am not going to hide it

Razor sucks... if you love it fine... but to me they are the biggest example of how a company can buy a reputation that is mostly unearned.

But whatever more importantly I have Razor Headsets and here are my problems
1) They are too tight
2) Their sound quality is too low
3) They are too loud
4) They hurt my ears

I doubt I can return it... so I have to do my best to make this overly expensive garbage headset I wouldn't have bought if it was 25 bucks.

I am so desperate I might even just forgo a headset for a long long time.

---

I swapped with someone who is more tolerant then I am.

These 80 dollar old headsets are really nice!

General Discussion / The Most Interesting Vapid Entertainment You Seen
« on: January 12, 2016, 10:12:38 am »
So I was watching "Ever After High" in order to catch up to what shows people were watching.

And I kind of found that it sets up a lot of interesting concepts and ideas that would be incredibly interesting to follow... but the show is too vapid and simple to ever meaningfully explore them.

Yet this isn't the only time I've seen this. Fiction is rife with interesting set ups without any payoff or with unintentional quirks that bely the simple storytelling.

So for you, what is the most interesting piece of fiction you ever experienced, whether intentionally or unintentionally, but when it comes to the actual plot is as deep as a puddle?

Heck if you have a story that pretends to be simple and vapid but is in fact deep, bonus points as well! (One Punch Man for example)

DF Suggestions / Undeath, Monsters, and Magic added as Spheres
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:51:06 pm »
Now it is a simple suggestions

-Undeath: Because the game currently features a large number of undead creatures it would be a good idea to include undeath as a sphere POSSIBLY as a child of death or rebirth. Undeath is a bastardization of death and rebirth after all yet not necessarily evil.
-Monsters: A child of animals and makes sense this was RARE but there are gods of monsters in mythology, yet it also fits here. They don't have to be the god of a specific monster just monsters in general.
-Magic: Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian all had a god who specifically ruled over magic. Even if magic is never added, it is kind of odd not to include it in the spheres.

I know that currently the game considers Death to be the same as Undeath. But I feel that is sort of a incorrect mix.

As Death is often the sphere where a god will absolutely make sure nothing interferes with someone's death and travel to the underworld.

Other Games / One Survival Game without Artificial Scarcity
« on: January 07, 2016, 09:29:48 pm »
Ok so I was thinking of tons of zombie games and noticed that no matter what they almost all have artificial scarcity. It seems like this is the go to choice for games.

If someone has a pantry it might have 6 packs of potato chips and a cola. If you raid their dresser it might have a single shirt... You won't find knives, forks, or other things.

Yet here are some games I can think of that avoid it completely
1) The Long Dark: The game takes place pretty much in an abandoned Lodging area/fishery/stuff and when you go to a genuine recently lived in location it will often have lots of resources.
2) Dead Rising: A mall to yourself and basically unlimited resources. Only story events can rob you.
3) State of Decay: Houses tend to have entire "supplies" and weapons are plentiful. The only "iffy" thing is ammo.

Yet these three cannot be the only exceptions. There MUST be other games out there that say "NO! what self-respecting house that isn't on hard times has less then a few jars of peanut butter?"

General Discussion / How Crazy is Talking to yourself?
« on: January 07, 2016, 10:30:22 am »
So I talk to myself pretty much all the time. In order not to I have to make an effort not to.

I talked to myself since I was a young child, as a teen, and as an adult.

Yet people seem to find it annoying, embarrassing, and psychopathic.

So how crazy IS it to talk to yourself?

Other Games / You ever not get a game because the DLC was too expensive?
« on: January 03, 2016, 03:54:27 pm »
So I was looking at quite a few games in the winter sale and I noticed that a lot of the games I ended up not getting are ones that were relatively cheap to buy but had expensive DLC attached.

I didn't have to get the DLC but for the most part I felt like I had to...

How common is this for you? Will you sometimes just not buy a game on the basis of the DLC price?

Hello and welcome back to your favorite suggestion guy. Now this suggestion is going to be trying to flesh out both realistic, fantastical, and quasi-magical elements that can be used in forbidden beasts, magic, or artifacts... or even for your own creations.

The goal is that elements shouldn't require the magic system and should have a clear established logic unique to them. I'll try to separate mundane, fantastic, and magical sources of damage. Before we continue magical simply means conceptually it is less defined by physics but more metaphysics, this isn't to say that mundane and fantastic sources cannot be magical or are magical, it is only a name.

Though while saying this ONLY Mundane should be Mundane. The only way to encounter anything but mundane damage should require exceptional circumstances. Hellfire should appear in hell for example.

Likewise I want to minimize the number of elemental damages that are handled better with the disease system or weapon system. It is why I didn't include Rust or barbs. In fact "Death" damage I also thought of, but honestly seems more like a condition. Nor do I want something that is better handled by magic. Though forgive me as I will include it anyway as is the nature of things..

Mundane
-Sonic: Simply speaking sonic does blunt damage, however unlike blunt it works on the entirety of the part and as such potentially does less or more damage. Being hit with a wall of sonic damage hits your entire body. As a special addition: Getting hit in the head with sonic damage, and it not being negated by armor, should cause temporary deafness (or permanent if we are being cruel)
-Light: Intense light rays deal heat damage but have a no-low chance of ignition. It also can be blocked by steam and smoke.
-Electric: Causes unrestricted heat damage randomly going through the body, as well it causes temporary muscular or sometimes neural failure in the body. The higher the electrical damage the more it fragments within the body causing more internal damage.
-Acid: Causes heat damage but also deals a minimum amount of damage regardless of the inflammability of the object, it also destroys itself and can be diminished by the stop drop and roll. Combusts when in contact with water or fire.

-But what of explosion?: Explosion is a combination of heat, sonic, and shrapnel

Fantastic
-Hellfire: This form of fire burns for a very long time and ignores the flammability of the object it is on, but cannot spread. Hellfire leaves no traces. It can survive water but it doesn't last too long after being doused.
-Frostfire: another form of fire but causes cold damage instead of heat, objects "destroyed" by it turn to ice/snow instead of slag/ash. It still follows flammability rules.
-Shatter: Causes piercing and slashing damage throughout the body in a similar method as electricity even fragmenting as the damage increases inside the body. Unlike electricity it is defended against by armor just the same.
-Dissolve: Causes general damage to whatever is touched. It just ceases to exist when destroyed, turning into dust.

Magical
-Sacred Fire: Acts like fire but is cancelable and doesn't cause harm in non-lethal combat. It burns bright but burns out quickly.
-Wither: Causes things to start to break apart, their strength serving as resistance, and living beings suffer intense necrosis as their flesh rots off. It has low penetration against non-living things like armor, but will ignore living beings.
--Alternative: Wither could cause the same rotting damage to inanimate objects but give random diseases to living beings.
-Psychic: Mitigated with Willpower this damage causes stunning and very low damage to the nervous system.

Other Games / Do you read Pen and Paper RPG Fluff?
« on: December 18, 2015, 01:15:27 pm »
So I have read through pen and paper RPG books many times before and I kind of noticed something....

I never EVER read the fluff the first, second, or third time through.

It is usually something I only read on my 5th time through the book... and most of the time I find the fluff... unhelpful and it usually is a mildly uninteresting short story set within the setting (with HUGE exceptions... but remember I've read a LOT of books... not all from good systems. They all can't be oWoD)

But do you read the fluff?

Other Games / Good and Fun JRPG that isn't trying to be an Anime?
« on: December 15, 2015, 04:57:18 pm »
I am in the mood for a good and fun JRPG lately.

Most of my favorite ones are... kind of dead or unrecognizable now (FFT, Tactics Ogre, Suikeoden, Final fantasy, Star Ocean, Sword of Mana, Front Mission)

While others are far FAR too anime. Tales games especially... and I am not going to say the Tales games are bad (because they are good...), they just don't hit me right in that JRPG zone... They almost feel like separate entities I'd call "Anime RPGs"

Is there a good and fun JRPG I can get for the PC that:
1) Isn't trying to be an anime
2) Isn't retro (at least needs to feel like it came from the late 90s... not early 90s with early 2000 sprites)
3) isn't too gimmicky (AKA: One Minute Hero... which is once again "good" but not the right punch to the gut)

So here is kind of the thing about Dating Sims and I know I am going to insult a lot of people by saying this... but they ALL universally suck!

They are all about doing exactly what your date wants, saying what they want to hear, subverting your personality, likes, and dislikes in order to forge yourself into basically what they want as opposed to being a real life human being. Where the most you can hope for is that you have no personality or real input as it is.

Which, honestly, at first I didn't mind but things have a tendency to break you over time and become retroactively worse and worse as more follow the formula. Think Jump Scare movie, the first one you seen you probably thought it was amazing! now you think it is trash.

And even now I wouldn't mind so much if I could gleam some humor from it (and Hatoful Boyfriend is more a parody on how shallow and meaningless dating sims are), but there is something inherently offensive about them that is striking me right in the heart.

Heck "I" wanted to make a parody of Dating Sims about a guy or girl who visits a quiet little town only to date a series of people who turn out to be psychotic murderers who will kill you if you displease them... so you have to go around town sneaking into their house, reading their diaries, and talking to other people for hints at how to respond on those dates or else they will chop you up and bury you in their back yards like everyone else who came to this town.

---

Yet, come on... they can't ALL suck just because every single one I've played and stumbled across sucked. It isn't like I am playing them non-stop, and I've seen interesting mechanics in a few.

But are there dating sims out there where it is about having a relationship and not being someone's temporary slave? Where saying 'You know what, I don't want to go to the ballet, lets go to the arcade because I like it there and this is our fifth date' and it isn't the wrong choice.

General Discussion / Canada Internet Price Gouge Part 2
« on: November 30, 2015, 08:17:20 am »
So for people outside of Canada you might not know but Canada is quite far behind the rest of the world when it comes to internet services. Where some places offer free unlimited internet or even count it as just daily taxes... Canada offers incredibly expensive and slow internet. We have been described as a Third World Country when it comes to the internet.

This is mostly because Canada's internet is controlled by a "Monopoly" (quotations because it isn't exactly a monopoly) between two internet service provides (Bell and Rogers). So the need to innovate and compete with each other is near non-existent (Mostly because, if they defeat their rival... they become a monopoly and will be immediately disbanded).

Though what Canada currently has to combat this is that Bell and Rogers MUST sell their internet to smaller companies at a low rate. These smaller companies often do offer much better services for much cheaper.

Yet here is what happened. Bell and Rogers lobbied for there to be an internet cap of 35 gigs a month per household, after which you have to pay an expensive set rate. This is under the guise of there being "fair and mutual", after all EVERYONE is getting the same disadvantage so everyone must be equally disadvantaged right?

So the old unlimited internet deals are now gone, one of the largest reasons why people went to other smaller internet suppliers. Meaning that there is no reason not to go to Bell or Rogers.

The Conservative Minority Government in Canada at the time said that this was ridiculous "I have two teenagers at home". Yet now that we are in a Liberal Majority they are putting it up to bat again, speeding it along using a loop hole so it could pass within a single month (Hope you didn't get a lot of games for Christmas)

---

Personally I don't think any government in Canada is dumb or corrupt enough to pass this internet cap.

But several of my friends want me to "help" so this is my contribution. A thread for people to gawk at.

Now I didn't get all the details right, but this is the best I understand it.

Neon, you really should have posted the big petition link so that your fellow Canadians could actually help.

Life Advice / A good remedy for Sleep Anxiety
« on: November 28, 2015, 11:18:24 am »
So occasionally I get huge bouts of sleep anxiety or sleep phobia that keeps me up until I become more tired then I am anxious.

Often this is triggered when I have something to do early in the morning or that is absolutely important later... (or if I sleep with the windows open >_< but that is seperate)

But I also can just get random attacks where I become too afraid to sleep.

I don't think there is much I can do (and medication wise... well... see my other thread) but I'd like to see if there is something else I could do.

One thing I used to do is drink a LOT of milk which calms me down... but I am not joking when I say a lot of milk. I'd polish off a whole bag (1L carton for you Americans). Yet that isn't a realistic solution to something I might have everyday for a week... I dunno milk just calms me down, it makes me feel cool.

General Discussion / Movies so happy they are infectious: What are yours?
« on: November 20, 2015, 06:45:08 pm »
So as you know I am the most dour person in the universe, I deny being or ever being a Carebear, yet even I like some saccharinely sweet movies.

I think of one movie I like above all others it is probably... Disney's Pollyanna

A story about how a Girl saves an entire town from despair using nothing but her positivity.

But, what about you? What movies do you love just for being flat out happy?

Note: They don't have to be constantly cheery. They just have to be overall upbeat.

This isn't a letsplay, I am looking for someone I can possibly play this game with.

I just can't seem to solo this game anymore, it is just more enjoyable with others.

Preferably someone with voice capability, but I am not choosey.

We will be playing on tactition mode... which will assuredly annoy us.
