Here is something...

(Semi)Megabeast Templates

These are templates that can go on ANY creature other then Megabeasts and Semimegabeasts and turns them into (Semi)Megabeasts. The game will select creatures at random to use these templates

They are

-Paragon: This turns any creature into a Semimegabeast
-Ascended: This turns any creature into a Megabeast

It could even have minimums and maximums since some ordinary creatures are more then powerful enough that their Paragon Selves could rival Megabeasts.

I don't think a Semimegabeast would attack a fortress...

If it did show up it would have a goal... then leave.

Problem is that all Semimegabeasts would be uttarly murdered by just about any fortress except a rather early starting one.

I mean how many people have killed a SemiMegabeast in Adventure mode with a starting hero, even one with a poor selection of skills?

Let me think... Also I count Demons as Semimegabeasts... mostly because I don't know what they are classified under.

Good (Semi)Megabeasts
-Note: These are Megabeasts that hang out in "Good" areas, not Benevolent.

-Fairy King/Queen: She isn't too tough but she has an army of Large fairys under her control and can annoy your fortress with Fairy swarms (Which are already in the game as Pests). Is capable of extending good boarders.
-Ambrosial Queen Bee: Similar to the above, she is the Queen of the swarms of Giant bees.
-Ambrosial Butterfly: A Giant Butterfly that uses poisons to suppliment its strength.
-The Pure: A being of such "Good" that it cannot help but to attack and destroy nearly everything in the world. It isn't intelligent and attacks on pure instinct then one any sort of Philosophical grounds.

Benevolent (Semi)Megabeasts
-These are the goody ones or at least generally helpful to other civilisations

-Angels: Naturally Benevolent, dislikes Demons. Though it can make other cities mad by stealing what it needs to live or attacking those it finds offensive. The Exact name isn't too important.
-Stone Guardian: A Statue carved that protects the town it is built in
-Little God: A Semi-Megabeast that devotes itself to the protection of a single family line.

Normal (Semi)Megabeasts

-Queen Antmen: A Stronger then usual Antmen who is protected by others as well as the few Male Antmen in the colony. She is actually Worshipped by the Antmen.
-Roc: A Giant bird

Evil (Semi-Megabeasts)
-These live in Evil Lands

-Undead King/Queen: Brings things back from the dead and can extend evil boarders.
-Amalgamation: Several undead put together as one ready to kill.
-Hundred Ghost: Several Ghosts working together as one being.
-Feeder: a Being who feeds on the dead. Though seemingly helpful it also will eat the dead of other civilisations who may or may not think it was such a good idea.

The only problem I have with this suggestion comes from the fact that I am just simply inexperienced and never have the metals required to possibly properly armor a squad.

On the other hand I love the idea that it can track what you need... So I am not discovering that "Ohh my I don't have enough low metal boots"

Other then that comment I like your suggestion. Especially with the Squads appearing in Legends and team emblems.

The Problem wasn't that the Megabeast killed too much

The problem was that the (Semi)Megabeasts often got killed and have no means of reproduction

I like Toady's idea that Megabeasts start off technically Evil, by evil I mean entirely willing to kill people and steal from them, and they can through interaction with other civilisations become good themselves (or at least benevolent towards that civilisation).

Though I guess what I can take from you is a need to diversify their personalities to noticable extents.

On a side note: I don't think it should be hinted upon as "Prefers the company of men". If it must appear it should just say it "He is gay".

Because frankly... You can prefer the company of men without being homosexual and it adds to this whole "Men can't be buddies with men" Homophobia that is going on that I personally Loathe.

I have no problem with "Prefers the company of men/Women" for both Men and Women, so a woman can prefer the company of men and a man can prefer the company of women, if it doesn't become inuendo. It could be interesting towards the relationship dynamics of the Fort.

Edit Addition: I may come off too strong and controvercial, tell me if I should edit this post.

Alright... since you split it up... here are my comments, suggestions, and something... Ok I guess only comments and suggestions... Rejections and acceptance.
Warning: I am a negative person with little tact... so PLEASE don't hate me... I also cannot spell well.

"Dwarven Sexuality"
-I say no... Lets stay away from Controvercy. It is hard enough to get non-asexual beings (Dang it Dwarves... REPRODUCE ALREADY!!!)
--On another note it is pretty sad how overly simplistic relationships are as it is... The game as it is could only REALLY just put "Wife" between two same sex couples and would otherwise not even show up in game. So if this does go into the game... ATLEAST have it wait until more sophisticated relationships become involved.

"Crime and Punishment"
-I think Crime and Punishment is perfect and shows an aspect of Dwarven Culture
--On another note.. for the time period this game is set in... Crime is WAY too leniant... I mean, it wasn't too long ago that in Britian would dunk women underwater if they were just naggy.
---Think of it this way... In a time of Torchure and where 50% of crimes resulted in maiming or the death sentence... Dwarf Fortress just uses House Arrest and Beatings (that may or may not result in death).

"Low Quality Goods"
-I'll Skip

"Uses For Poison"
-Goes without saying that poison needs a use... Though Poison Darts won't be useful until Crossbow bolts are made less "Lets destroy the WORLD!!!"

"Stone Beds"
-Stone already makes most things in the game... I like wood being used. Right now Wood seems to only have the use of being the fastest craft.
--If Stone Beds EVER make it into the game (beyond artifacts) I think it should require more then stone. Such as Cloth, Leather, and Wool
---I mean in most Dwarven Lore... Dwarves do have wood... In fact they usually use it to make the mine support systems.
----Lastly... Most mountains SHOULD have wood, but due to the way the game handles mountains... they don't.

"Tree Growing"
-Yeah Tree Growing would be nice. Though more for fruit trees then for wood.

"Sandbox Mode"
-I think Toady has that somewhere... ohh well Ill skip this

"Forced Sparring"
-Dwarves Off Duty Spar as much as possible in their freetime and only are stopped by glitches and a party or two (Also the more dwarves you have the more they will spar)
--So in effect what your REALLY doing is turning them into robots and saying "No parties"
