This is America, the place that's legalizing marijuana by having states gradually ignore federal law. Authority is a little more nebulous here.

And that's one of the important features of the whole America thing.

I laughed at this. Thank you.

It started almost reasonable, then I just heard the tone of the tweets gets shriller and shriller as I kept reading. I'm unsure if it was intentional or not.

Aaaaaand let's shift bases.

Great quote here.

And this isn’t a weird exception. Freud spoke of the narcissism of small differences, saying that “it is precisely communities with adjoining territories, and related to each other in other ways as well, who are engaged in constant feuds and ridiculing each other”. Nazis and German Jews. Northern Irish Protestants and Northern Irish Catholics. Hutus and Tutsis. South African whites and South African blacks. Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs. Anyone in the former Yugoslavia and anyone else in the former Yugoslavia.

The unclaimed parts they're worried about is mostly Iraq, with chunks of Syria. But yeah, a Kurdish nation-state would probably be a serious threat to Turkey and their semi autonomous Kurdish region.

Iran maybe? I don't know enough about the Kurdish chunks of Iran to speak authoritatively.

665
Fuckit. Let them establish whatever kind of Kurdish State they can.
Now is not the time to be grabbing lebensraum clay.

Now is the perfect time to be grabbing anything they have a claim to. They're going to be hard pressed by someone just as soon as the area stops boiling. My money is on Turkey, but I'll give good odds for Iran too.

Earth observation is pretty obviously a NOAA tasking in all of its form. The only reason it hasn't been there's for a decade is NASA's hyper paranoid and anti-interagency culture.

Like the military refused to attack Vietnam and Iraq for no reason. Soldiers are typically disciplined and often principled, but they don't refuse lawful orders.

More importantly, you're not attacking Mexico, you're saving the Mexican people from rampant cartel massacres and the failed state they live in during this scenario. Learn your justifications for war, it makes everything a lot clearer. The best thing about these kinds of justifications is that they're not even untrue, you are helping. It's just not the full truth.

I don't think America at large dedicating itself to world conquest is at all a realistic scenario, but if we were going to do it these details are how it would be done. I'm just playing armchair geopolitics here, but what I wrote is almost certainly similar to whatever war plans the Pentagon keeps on "if we need to invade Mexico", and if it isn't it's because they thought of something even more clever I didn't realize.

Thunder run through Juarez sounds pretty cool, actually.

I'd like to see a max/min depth of the caverns and magma layers, as well as the map in general. 200 Z level maps can be a serious fps difference when compared to a 50 deep one.

There's an obvious difference between a Jew and a Nazi.

Jews:
1. Defined by religion or race.
2. Aren't intolerant and hateful.
3. Minority with discrimination against them, as well as being on the receiving the usual racist stuff. Big-nosed bankers and shit.
4. History of being exterminated by Nazis by the millions.

Nazis:

1. Defined by belief in a political ideology that supports fascism, nationalism, and racism.
2. Intolerant and hateful.
3. Have discriminated against Jews.
4. Have exterminated Jews by the millions.

And what "discrimination" against a Nazi would exist? Perhaps the Nazi wouldn't get a job if they wore their swastikas on their sleeves? That's acceptable - it's a hate symbol. If I walk around tooting a horn and shouting "Down with the Evil Jews," it's okay if nobody hires me (though it's not okay if I am censored). That's completely different from discrimination based on race, religion, sexuality, gender, etc.

Remember folks, there's a clear and different standard between goodthink and badthink, as determined by the passions of the day.

Wonder how partisan this country can get before it enters civil war. Seeing as this was yet another uptick in that regard. Guess time will tell.

Honestly, both sides seem to be boiling over.

It's seemed like that after every election I can remember.

Speaking of shifting the blame, some people (well, at least one person anyway) are trying to blame the third party vote for the loss..

Which, I really don't agree with. For one, blaming it on third parties completely ignores everything else that went wrong. The third party vote is merely a symptom and a warning sign, had the Democrats or Clinton done things differently, then the Republicans would be the ones complaining about the third party vote.

Yep. I love that we're now into the "only if" stage of the election. If only Johnson voters in Florida had broke fifty fifty and Stien voters had all gone for Clinton. Well, next time maybe the Democrats should think about appealing to them? At the end of the day, we had an election and the election came up Trump.

I fully approve of The Rock's political carreer.

As long as the hulk runs as well.

And the Undertaker acts as moderator during the debates.

The second overtime signal is a chokeslam through the podium lectern.

General Discussion / Re: Should California become its own nation?

Two years is also plenty of time for cooler and more rational heads to prevail, but then it's also plenty of time for Trump and the Republicans to do things that alienate the liberals even more.

Or hell, it might be useable as a threat to get things to change.

We-lllll, ispil does have a point, we'd be utterly without a navy and army from the start unless California based military defect to us or something, but that isn't going to happen.

Besides, seems more useful for leverage and to say 'we are HELLISHLY NOT HAPPY!'

I dunno, maybe if they offered, the guys stuck at the national training center would turn traitor to get out of the desert faster

Re Mike Pence as VP: So, here's a question, as far as I'm aware, vice presidents major role in politics involves the senate, considering the democrats got crushed in the senate, how much additional power does a Republican vice president actually give? I'm not sure of the intricacies of their role in procedural matters, what he can actually do and such past the tie breaker. Could it be considered a good thing that he's no longer a governor?

In some ways. It really depends on the amount of soft influence he has.
