DF Gameplay Questions / Timer
« on: August 23, 2008, 09:14:22 pm »
I currently am working on creating a machine that will destroy a fortress after a set amount of time by letting enough magma into the fortress entrance to travel down and destroy everything and everyone inside. I am doing this to set up a challenge of seeing who much wealth I can accumulate in a set period of time, the drawback in this design, however, is the timer. So the question is, does anyone have any cool ideas for a long-term timer?

The longer it lasts (a couple of years would probably be best) the better.
Also, bonus points if there is any way to change the amount of time it goes for at the beginning.

P.S. These are only ideas for automated timers, not dwarven ones, with the only exception being if it needs a dwarf to pull a lever to start it.

DF Suggestions / resizing stockpiles
« on: August 18, 2008, 09:39:07 pm »
This is a minor fix, but it is really annoying when I need more room in a custom stockpile and I need to resize it. Because then I either need to add another stockpile that covers the new area, and then when I make any changes I need to make them twice, or I need to delete the old stockpile, make a new bigger one, and the reformat it.

DF Suggestions / ethics
« on: August 17, 2008, 08:59:25 pm »
It would be really cool if we got an explanation of the current ethic tags and gained some new ones, especially something beyond acceptable that would actually encourage entities to steal or whatever.

DF Bug Reports / [adventure mode] ocean civs
« on: August 16, 2008, 08:48:23 am »
I don't know if this is already reported, but whenever a civilization on an ocean biome creates towns, they place about half of the town on the water. Now the game doesn't check gravity unless an adventurer is there, so the town just floats on the water until you appear. Then about half of the town collapses, killing everyone inside those buildings. I have even had times where the mead hall is floating over the water so that as so as I appear inside it, it collapses killing me instantly. The problem might be that the game is saying that this is the design for the town without taking into effect things like the biomes, and then just placing a building where it thinks it should go, regardless of the fact that it is floating on water.

DF Gameplay Questions / Ice covering
« on: August 16, 2008, 01:44:38 am »
Just a question, what would happen to a creature that was covered in water in a freezing biome. For example, if I was an adventurer who could normally handle a freezing biome no problem, but I doused myself in water first, would the water freeze, and if so, would I take any damage, or just turn into some sort of abominable snowman?

Could someone explain the difference between the [SPHERE_ALIGNMENT] tag and the [RELIGION_SPHERE] tag.

DF Gameplay Questions / Champions
« on: August 13, 2008, 02:31:02 am »
This is just a question, at what skill level are military dwarves changed into champions, and I also heard about some method where you could stop a dwarf from becoming a champion by training in one weapon and then switching to another, if anyone has heard and understands this method, could they please explain it. ???

DF Modding / Mining more surprising
« on: August 09, 2008, 12:31:53 am »
Right now I am currently getting bored while mining so I thought I would make it a little more difficult by adding minerals that looked just like the minerals they appeared in, but that evaporated into a insta-freezing mist as soon as they were mined into. ;D Anyway, if anyone else has any crazy ideas, I would like to hear them.

DF Suggestions / Adventure mode ethics
« on: August 09, 2008, 12:12:47 am »
I think that something that would be really nice to be added is if adventure mode was affected by ethics, because currently, even if a race has murder set to acceptable, if you go into their civilization as one of their own race and kill another one, everyone in the civilization knows and comes to kill you.

DF Modding / utilities
« on: August 04, 2008, 01:21:21 am »
Now I know that this doesn't have a very high priority, but it would be really, really cool if someone edited some utilities like reveal to run on macs. Because I am getting very tired of digging through the entire map to find an underground pool so I can plan my cave city around it.

DF Bug Reports / Weapon/Armor Racks
« on: August 04, 2008, 12:44:40 am »
This has probably been mentioned before, but in adventure mode you cannot remove weapons or armor from their respective racks, which can be really annoying when you are staring at a +adamantine plate mail+ that is just beyond your fingertips.

DF Gameplay Questions / mount

Just a question, has anyone ever seen a creature mounted? Because I personally never have.

DF Suggestions / encased
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:50:47 pm »
Something that I think would be cool would be if when something was encased in ice or obsidian, you could recover it by digging into the block. It would also be cool if a dwarf or pet was encased in ice, then you could dig out there ice encased body and use it as a statue.

P.S. It would be cool if statues were more specific, like iron dog statue, not just iron statue.

DF Bug Reports / Magma-Chasm
« on: August 03, 2008, 08:09:45 pm »
Ok. I loaded up a new world and started a fortress. But then when the fortress started I noticed that floating over the nearby bottom-less pit, there was about 4 z-levels of magma, the size of a magma pipe. Now, this magma then immediately fell into the pit, causing all creatures inside to be barbecued. The excess magma also proceeded to flow down the mountainside towards the river, torching everything in its way.

P.S. I have noticed that for some reason adult trees do not catch on fire even when surrounded by magma.

DF Gameplay Questions / magma glass
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:58:11 pm »
I was just wondering about what would happen if you took magma and flooded it across a sand floor, and then cut it off. Would the sand floor have then morphed into a glass floor from the heat? Because that would be really, really, cool. ;D
