DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Epic Awesomeness

If both your hands are full (like with a weapon and shield), put away one first so you have a free hand. Then use your free hand to grab their head. You should see more options then. You can't do it with other limbs, only hands.

And of course I forgot the last, most important line:

Urist Adventurer has become a legendary Storyteller!

843
Just imagine that scene.

Urist Adventurer walks into the town.
Urist Adventurer sees the temple, with minor blood from a fight, a laughing rhesus macaque, and the body of a priest floating in the temple pond below.
Urist Adventurer sees various drunks fighting rhesus macaques, and losing.
Urist Adventurer sees the Merchant Baroness being eaten by a horse with her face smashed in.
Urist Adventurer sees the civ leader throwing his spear to the ground and running away from the town, screaming.
Urist Adventurer sees the Mayor hiding in the inn which is under siege by named horses.
Urist Adventurer sees the guards running away screaming with various limbs missing or mangled.
Urist Adventurer loots the bodies, sells it all for money at the last alive shopkeeper (who is busy dueling a macaque), and retires in the next town where he becomes legendary for his tales of the siege of the capital by various wildlife.

Dwarven luck + dwarven axe + dwarf skilled at using said axe + (optional) martial trance + goblin ambush + (optional) another goblin ambush = lots and lots of dead goblins.

Huh. I didn't know that.

My current adventurer: Gomux Blightcry the Lustrous Abyss of Cyclones (earned everything after the "the") who waded into a super-dense goblin fortress (thanks, Legendary Lands mod).

He charges one marksgoblin to grab him by the throat.  Smashes a fist through his skull.  Grabs one of his bolts and spins around, throwing through the skull of another goblin bowman.  Draws his sword (which deals burning damage, also from the mod), vaporizing the torsos of two melee goblins flanking him.  Throws the sword at a goblin master thief (dealing very little damage).  Picks up the crossbow of the goblin beneath him, then hits the demon that had been approaching all this time.  The demon flew back 32 (!!) tiles off a cliff before exploding against the side of one of the tower walls.

Of course, the race I'm playing is a little powerful, but I still think this was all very awesome.   ;D

A total Leonidas moment. Worthy of the dwarf version of 300. :P

I doubt leather has any nutritional value, so all of your dwarves will probably munch on leather and do absolutely nothing to stave off starvation.

DF General Discussion / Re: DWARVES HELP THE ENVIORMENT TOO!

They must also be able to breathe magma.

Hell, forget about them breathing at all. Then they can't suffocate.

Also make sure they have skin so hard they can't actually die from any mundane damage, like cave ins, carp swarm and the like.

DF General Discussion / Re: Huge question, unimaginably important.

I had an early fascination with flight, space travel and the like. I always worked jetpacks into my imagination sometime. So when it came time to register my first identity on the internets, I remembered back to my old childhood days of pretending to fly around the house... and became Jetman! After an old game I used to play, as well as the other old game Jetpac.

It turns out that was taken on the site I tried to register on, so I added numbers. 123 was the easiest sequence. And I've been using it ever since. ^_^

That would of course require the baseball bat to be called a "ballbat" :) Unless it's made out of baseball, and the balls are just made out of base.

You have to love the hidden depth of DF, how individuals do things according to past experience. It's very nice.

Definitely. I like this idea.

Have it related to mandates. If a noble mandates an impossible item, and someone gets beaten, then the friends of that guy will most likely go vigilante on the noble that ordered the beating.

Sorry, didn't know there was another topic.

And there are specialized haulers because I don't know about you, but it's _really_ annoying to me to have to have five dedicated haulers doing NOTHING BUT HAULING just to keep the economy running when they could actually be doing something useful. Why not have dwarves you don't control and don't need to worry about do the job?

DF Suggestions / Elven wood
« on: June 19, 2008, 08:14:18 pm »
I'm all for elf wood items being called "elf wood" or "deadfall wood" and the elves not getting offended if you offer them items made out of the stuff. If you really don't want to offend the pointy-eared ones, you can even harvest it yourself from dead trees, but that takes time and is not nearly as efficient. Of course this is only worth putting in once elves siege you again.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Relieved from duty is a BAD thing?

Only the soldiers are the skilled nutjobs, and only once they fight for a while. The newbies are quite sane, although prone to going insane if they don't dine right. Dwarves are straaaaange creatures.
