What happens when a falling chunk of ice hits solid ground?

Just don't fortress under it, or you'll be dropping bunker-buster bombs on your fortress.

I would suggest you do this just for the fun of splattering goblins with falling bricks of ice.

I think the ultimate soloution may simply be to nuke your hard drive. It sounds like you've got some hidden malware somewhere else on your machine that's masquerading as another program, probably one used most often or which has had the most up-time recently (under the assumption that that program will be internet connected and the user will assume it's an anomaly in their antivirus software, look at the name, which seems to be a trusted app, and give the program cartle blanche.)

I'd suggest you burn your porn to disks, flash it off the machine, then call your antivirus providor and give them the heads-up about a masquerading program. They may want the machine (hence why I told you to nuke your pronchives) or send someone out to check it for you. This sounds like some serious electronic chicancery.

Ultimately, your only soloution may well be to run a complete system wipe and restore from install disks.

For certain values of 'safe', anyway...

As to keeping the siege operators from running, you just need to seperate them from any potential sources of interruption by a wide margin. Use a row of fortifications a long way away from the siege weapons and channel the enemies/traders into a long tunnel. Killing field!

I want an option to tell the Elven Diplomat "Our land, our rules. You got a problem with that? Bring it.

I'll hole up and let them siege me. Then eventually, a goblin siege will show up, and two 'problems' will 'solve' themselves. The rest will be dealt with in the traditional Boatmurdered fashion.

How have my Giant Cave Swallowmen, locked in the Chasm and not able to access the rest of us, get names, then? I've had like three of them spontainously get names?

Did they get into rumbles with GCS's (I've emperically confirmed GCS presence via [k]ing on spiderwebs and noting they were GCS webs and not CS webs) and emerge victorious?!

I'm an idiot. I deleteted 38c and my fort-in-progress, and downloaded the new one, only to realize that (a) Mike Mayday's graphics pack won't work with the new one because it adds so much.

Then I learn the new version has a number of show-stoppers, and my favorite utilities (Regional Prospector and likely Dwarf Foreman) are broken. Oh well. C'est la vie, I'll wait for some updates.

Seriously, these nobles are fucked. Any individual dwarf peon - and to me, they are all peons - who thinks they can get away with posing more of a threat to my domain than goblin sieges, Megabeasts, Dragons, and resident monsters, has quite another thing coming to them!

From the lowest "House Schmuck Representative" to the King, only one dwarf will be spared, and that will be the Dungeon Master.

Wow, this sounds like the ultimate fortress-defense mechanism.

Train everyone in your first fortress up to a high level of hunterdom, abandon, and reclaim. BAM! Your own group of Dwarven Rangers.
