DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Champion not releasing artifact
« on: February 02, 2009, 06:14:11 pm »
If you really want that spear out, intentionally wound her, then when she is resting set the spear for dumping, another dwarf will go and take it to a dumping zone. I suggest a 3z level drop, for a champ that might be just enough.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What livestock do you raise?
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:45:28 pm »
I use dogs and horses, I will import as many different animals as I can for my livestock area, but those are the starters.

I pick horses due to their high yield, basically gives the same amount as cows -1 fat.

Dogs I pick over cats for the obvious reason, kicking puppies is fun catsplosions.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The fire, it does nothing!
« on: January 30, 2009, 12:15:26 am »
Fire will eventually set a dwarf on fire, but running through it he'll make it out fine. Now if the fire had hit your stationary immigrants, they would have just stood there and caught on fire. Dwarves currently ignore fire, so they will path right through it.

See now when I look at those poisonous rocks and metals then look at the Future of the fortress page: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=30026.0 under venom, I see contact poison. Bwahahahahaha! Lead poisoning, here we come.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Reasons why you love this game
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:59:37 pm »
So many reasons:

The detail that the game currently has is amazing. Not to mention the fact that detail is still being added. I can't wait until the next release comes. Contact poisions... Do you think lead poisoning will be in there? =)

The infinite replay potential of the game, You have the ability to make the game easier, harder, more insane, just by imposing rules on yourself, or embarking in different areas. Tired of the same old areas? Just create a map with insane features!

The megaprojects! A game where you can strive to make something huge, insanely difficult, and completely awesome is an aspect that will never let my games get boring.

The community. I have to admit, that if it were not for the forums here I might not have gotten interested in the game at all. I enjoy a good ascii game, but starting up such an indepth game seemed like a bad idea as I was busy with classes back then. That was until I visited this forum and found the community fortresses, the challenges, and the general enthusiasum, I had to try it. I found the time to play.

New update coming soon, we have a number of newborn dwarves. Sorry if updates are slow for a bit, this season kills productivity.
Now I'm off to do more x-mas stuff. *grumbles*

The legend of Skullcrusher Mountain and The Abyssal Town:

The pipe failed to fill the area carved out for the first obsidian chambers, they were forced to release the water early, and wait for the pipe to refill, and the water to drain. Meanwhile 3 more children were born to Atelel, two girls and a boy. Fireheart and Duke decided to get married and shortly there after Imp and Alburd followed in kind.

You and everyone else almost kicked the bucket at the same time, as will be reflected in the next post (I'm compiling more material as these 3-4 sentence posts are kind of disappointing and redundant). I began filling the lowest level with magma and something happened I was not expecting. Dwarves rushed in to start cleaning up after it. I disabled cleaning before anyone jumped into an inescapable situation. I then locked the area off. That would have been a short fortress.

The legend of Skullcrusher Mountain and The Abyssal Town:

Shortly after Cles had become old enough to go off on her own, Atelel had yet another child, this one would be named Inaluct. Meanwhile the digging steadily continued.

Not dead, don't blame linux, work stuff came up and I was forced away from my computer entirely.

I am back, and updates will resume on Monday. Apologies all around.

Cles: Sure, but there will likely be no action for a considerable time, all river denizens have fallen into the chasm. I don't think they repopulate. The magma creatures will likely die off in the obsidian floor creation. I do think there will be a need for some military when we hit the HFS. I've not hit that area yet, luckily. I'll try not to hit it too soon. If I do the legend ends way too early.

Also sorry that I won't be able to do much today, I finally have linux back and have been going through installations and configurations for half the day. I really should make more frequent backups. =)

The legend of Skullcrusher Mountain and The Abyssal Town:

It was the summer of the 17th that the inhabitants of Skullcrusher Mountain celebrated their first marriage. Kornash and Atelel were the lucky couple, but they would certainly not be the last ones to tie the knot. Around one year later Cles was born to the newlyweds. She like almost every denizen of Skullcrusher Mountain would never know the light of day.

Oh sorry, no, fixed.
