DF Gameplay Questions / Steam version wagon accessibility?
« on: December 12, 2022, 10:49:48 pm »
Checking here to see if anyone knows how the accessibility works in the steam version now. I have a five wide bridge with 5 ramps either side but wagons still can't seem to access the fort.

Other Games / Conquest of Elysium 5
« on: August 21, 2021, 06:46:23 am »
So looks like it has been a few days and people have been using the previous version of the thread to discuss the current game so here goes since I own the game and all.

Conquest of Elysium 5 is kinda the latest in the series of strategy games by Illwinter. No not dominions, their other game. The big series focus is to make each of the classes play pretty differently. There isn't the same level of customization that you have in the dominions series.

So far it seems as fun as the last iterations of the game, but I'm having trouble making the cloud lord work. Gem costs seem kinda high and he has units that go for 75 gold for 5.

Play With Your Buddies / Dominions 4 Round 24 - Year ??? It's over

Disciples: Yes

Players and teams
Team 1:
Jilladilla - Agartha
Gigalith - Xibalba

Nurir Torir - Ragha

Team 4:

Special joining rules: For now just state that you are joining and we'll try and form teams as we go along. Nation selection will be decided by, err, I forget the name for this but I'll go ahead and explain the method and if anyone has a name for it we'll go with that.
The reason I'd want this method is due to disciple games sharing the dominion of the pretender nation, so it makes more sense people would wanna pick nations with more synergy, and I wanna encourage that, while keeping the selection process fair.

Lastly, I would like it if we can pick a second admin for the game to handle extending turns and such.

Skill level: We're going to likely saddle expert players as much with newer ones, otherwise do mention the skill level. This is a suggestion though, not gonna strictly enforce it, but I'll send out warning prompts. Prolly will try and break up an expert player block. It's absolutely fine if this is your first dominions game however.

Safe Turns: For the first 12 turns don't storm a national capital.

(Well, you don't absolutely have to, I'm just trying to spread it as far as I can to do the data gathering segment of a project related towards designing an application, the looks and way of interacting with an aplication anyway)

Anyway, the idea I'm running with for my project is doing a mock up for an application/website that I guess I'll call Gametag. It's a preliminary game for a website that in all likelyhood wo't exist just in case someone somehow gets their hopes up over a student putting something together for it, still I wanted to pick something that I figured was useful for me, and judging by the forgotten name of this game, probably useful to a chunk of you guys.

Okay, so what is it supposed to be? In case you're wondering anyway, it's meant to be a website that let's users tag games, and I mean all games, not just what's on steam, with tags in order for people to browse games with the same tags and it would hopefully match up with games they are looking for or games with those elements included. It's the basic idea but I also wanted to see what umm, features should be added to this imaginary website I will need to draw up, as well as how it should be handled.

Also, leave a post on here if you think you'd be fine with me interviewing you for a followup or a walkthrough of a low-fidelity version of the app/website, since I kinda need to do that as well. It won't be available right away since for one I had all of 4 hours of sleep the two days, 4 hours each day, so I'll try and catch up on my sleep, but maybe I can follow up afterwards if anyone is available later on at, I dunno, possibly 8 hours from after this post goes up? Would be pretty nice of you if you could.

Something something blaze it. Now that the obvious Joke is out of the way...

Dominions 4 is a game where each player takes the role of a god in order to gain a bid on the throne of the Pantokrator, the god among gods. This particular one is going to be probably a vanilla game rather than a hashed nation game. At most we're going to have tweaks in terms of mods if players would like them.

Life Advice / Any suggestions for durable laptops?
« on: January 18, 2015, 07:34:15 am »
Today marks the second time in two months that we've had to send in my sisters laptop to get repaired. Her last one had the motherboard exposed when it dropped on a corner, and her current one got stepped on while she was at school. At the moment, I'm pretty stressed dealing with that, a bunch of family things, my final exams, and not ripping my hair out. Which is to say I'd really appreciate some help here.

I'm looking for a laptop that:
  • Is fairly durable, this is a must
  • Is small and carryable
  • Operates on windows
  • As a bonus, has enough ram to handle image editing programs

Does anyone here have any advice for that?

Life Advice / Brushing up on German (possibly Spanish too)
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:28:06 pm »
A few weeks ago, I had gotten through an intensive German course (AI level, so I can speak rudimentary sorta. Didn't test for it either, so who knows), but I'm worried I might slip or I might need to practice more in German if I wanna get farther. I'm going to be in Berlin soon-ish, but I dunno if that'd be helpful. Anyone got any suggestions on how I can brush up on German?

And yeah, same thing with Spanish, although I have gotten two school years of it, and I have been out of Spanish for so long I've prolly forgotten most of it.

Life Advice / Laptop keeps hard resetting lately
« on: August 26, 2012, 11:03:23 am »
My laptop's been having an issue lately. Once a day, it will just reset, as if the power went on and off really fast. I'm not exactly sure what the heck is going on, but I'm guessing it's a hardware problem?

I'm worried this might cause my computer problems in the long run, so anything you know will be appreciated.

Life Advice / Looking for better drivers for a USB microphone.
« on: August 04, 2012, 09:44:31 am »
So I've recently bought a logitech USB device, and it has a microphone, but the microphone itself seems to pick up a hell of a lot of sounds. It uses the microsoft USB driver in order to work, but is there any way that I can have it set up with some other driver that has more options I can set, hopefully something that reduce the sounds of me typing and clicking at my computer?

Life Advice / Can't end some processes. (Windows 7)
« on: July 20, 2012, 06:30:43 pm »
So I've been using windows 7 for a while now, but lately I've been having this problem. Sometimes, a program crashes, and then I'm unable to end it's process in the task manager. I'm not sure why I can't, but this is something of an issue, as it also interferes with my computer shutting down (ie, it has to be shutdown the hard way.) This can happen to any program that crashes as far as I'm aware, once it does, I'm not able to end the process, and the computer thinks that there is still an instance running.

I've run a full virus scan, so no viruses are responsible, ran CCleaner, nothing, ran defraggler. Not sure what is going on.

General Discussion / Legalities legalities: Beiswenger vs. Ubisoft
« on: April 18, 2012, 06:02:22 pm »
So a recent story has emerged. Science fiction author John L. Beiswenger is suing Ubisoft over the content of Assassin's Creed.

Court Documents: http://www.bannerwitcoff.com/_docs/Ubisoft_Complaint.pdf

So if I understand correctly, the argument is this:

Beiswenger's work, Linked, deals with:

  • A device that allows people to relive the memories of their ancestors.
  • Using said device to relive memories of their ancestors.
  • Talking to Jesus.
  • Existence of assassins working in some sort of plot
  • Good versus Evil
  • Talking to Jesus

He also claims that Assassin's creed:

  • Has a device that let's people relive the lives of their ancestors
  • People using the device
  • Assassins
  • Good versus Evil
  • Talking to Mars and Minerva

You might wanna take a look at the court documents say, I'm just basing this off my memory here. Let me know if I ought to add anything to this list.

Now, there are a couple of things I'm not sure of yet, namely whether there are in fact other works that predate Beisweger's copyright that happen to have some of those themes (It was published in 2002). And whether this case is solid or doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of going through. I don't think it does, but I'd like a second (or third, or forth) opinion on the matter, hopefully using legal reasoning and precedent.

This ought to be helpful, scope and subject matter of copyright: http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.pdf#Section106

At the very least, look up section 2

(ps. Do note this topic isn't here to discuss your opinion on Assassin's Creed, otherwise it would be in the Other Games section. Try to keep discussion on the game limited to how it may relate to the case here. I'd say the same for the author's work Linked, but I doubt anyone has read that. Thank you.)

Life Advice / Windows Media Player and Ys
« on: March 20, 2012, 12:43:07 pm »
So I recently got Ys off of steam, and I'm running into an issue. When the opening cinematic plays, it's pretty garbled. Green blocky bits all over the screen, everything about halfway down the video doesn't update. I've poked around, found out that the file is an AVI, and that windows media player displays the same thing, but running it with VLC media player does. The sound files are run in-game though, so the video itself is silent.

But the thing is, I want to have the game display the video, rather than go to youtube to look it up. I'm stubborn like that. Anyone know what to do?

Creative Projects / The voice actor's thread
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:59:42 am »
So, I was thinking, since the other voice talent thread is now closed, and there was a lot of interest in it, I figured I might kick off a new one. You could post anything you have done here, and every Thursday, I'll get together the submissions for the week, and we can figure out the best submission for that week through popular vote. Get creative, and I'll probably post something of my own sometime later when I feel better.

Life Advice / Almost nothing seems to matter anymore.
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:05:29 am »
It's been almost a year since my grades at college have gotten bad enough that I could no longer attend. Even before then I think I was starting to show signs of just not caring.

I feel like I cannot do anything, or that, one second, I'd have an idea, but when I put it in motion, I just lose my drive for it. Even then, starting something has been pretty rare. Whenever I'm not talking to friends, I might feel like I'm a waste of a person.

I'm not sure what to do, or what I can do, and I think I need help, but have no idea where to look.

Life Advice / Looking to get a website up.
« on: November 05, 2011, 02:45:57 am »
I'm looking to get a website up for a friend of my brother's. I'm sure we won't have problems securing a domain name, and the server we can do on this end too, but the problem comes with the actual, well, infrastructure of the whole thing.

The concept design (where everything on the page goes, and the art) down, it's just a matter of dealing with having the pages made, and possibly dealing with a database (this is going to deal with car parts and ordering them, so Google search is pretty much out since we're not searching for pages).

Does anyone have any software they'd recommend, or would be able to do this?
