Playing now, seems to be doing ok. I don't know whether I'm still under the effect of psychic protection, or any other unknown effects, but I'll post if I spot any strange messages.

For now, it looks like I can keep my guy going. :)

It bugged because I equipped it. I think it should be okay to simply collect them, but I wouldn't try to use them. I don't know whether the latest git versions have fixed these issues, so if you're using that you might be fine.

Edit: On closer inspection, both artifacts I was holding in my inventory turned into "none"s after I saved & quit. So I don't think you can even collect them, because they'll just turn into null items as soon as you reload the game.

With that information, it seems likely that I won't be able to recover either artifact, so I am going to back up the save as suggested, delete the items, and try to continue playing. I'll let you know if there are any further problems.

Windows or Linux?
If it's windows, post your save & version and I'll take a look at it.

Windows pre-compiled, file: https://www.box.com/files/0/f/0/1/f_7602872572

Maybe I could just delete that item? I'm just worried about leaving orphaned effects on the character. I know it gave me the 'psychic protection' effect, I don't know of any negatives or other effects though.

Thanks for taking a look, I appreciate it :)

Open your save file with something like notepad++ and look around at your worn items, should hopefully be fairly obvious what the item that's causing the issues is.
There's some weirdness with artifacts where they don't save correctly.

Reported the details here: http://www.cataclysmdda.com/smf/index.php?topic=923.msg9811#msg9811

Is there anything I can do about it? Perhaps re-write the artifact values to either fix the issue, or unequip it safely?

My save just bugged. Whenever I try to move, the game crashes with the debug message: "DEBUG: Bishop Artemis::encumb hit a non-armor item at worn[15] (none)"

It just so happens that I found an artifact Ring of Gelatinous Ichor and wore it just before I last saved.

Is there some way to hack my save to get rid of this item? :/ This guy has survived a LONG time and a lot of awesome adventures.

There is definitely a morale boost from eating hot food, so that at least is fully implemented.

Trenchcoat and bandana. If the game could simulate long clothes getting caught up in machinery, I'm fairly certain I would have been shredded to ribbons and scattered across the countryside.

Btw, is there a bug with braziers, or are they supposed to eventually melt down and disappear? I was disposing of a bunch of squirrel/rabbit corpses, went out to collect more, and when I returned my brazier had vanished in a (literal) puff of smoke. :P

Uh... nevermind... I stepped over the tile and it reappeared. Must be some sort of weird visual bug.

Wow, this is the weirdest bug ever. Pick up just enough corpses to encumber myself = brazier vanishes. Can't be disarmed or lit- it's like it's not there. Drop one corpse and brazier magically reappears. ???

Going 80mph along a highway on my bike, collided head-on with a cougar. The impact threw me from the bike, man and machine skidding along the road together, I pull myself back into the seat and we were still travelling at 50mph. Pretend nothing happened.

So far they sound like a great gameplay accompanyment... which is their purpose. :) It is a little difficult to feel an emotional connection with the tracks, seperated as they are from the worlds or environments we should be experiencing along with them. But I'm enjoying it regardless. I've been using is as a Cataclysm background ambience, hehe.

Spitters and shockers aren't that tough to dodge. It takes them a while to recharge their special, too. When a spitter is chasing you, it's best to charge head-on: you'll usually end up with an empty tile/path out of the acid puddle. With shockers, duck and weave: they rarely (if ever) get a direct hit, so just keep running and put a lot of distance from the sparks because they like to travel.

Btw, my crafting with non-existent items "failed, and you waste a lot of materials". Hokay.

Welp, crashed to desktop and lost about a week of gameplay. :(

It happened when I was burning rotten meat, sinew and bones on a brazier. The brazier was surrounded by items on all sides because I had dropped tons of the stuff. My plan was to burn it all away. I burnt a few items, and then picked up the next load. As I was dropping them into the brazier, the game crashed.

The only reason I didn't have Autosave on is because it saves too frequently... and I then I kinda forgot about it, because the game used to do it unobtrusively and I forgot. :c And because it had never crashed yet up to that point.

Edit: I turned Autosave on now and it's causing some pretty hilarious bugs during crafting. I started crafting some Batteries and it decided that was the perfect time to save. Now it thinks I have every possible permutation of every item available to use. I'm going to tell it to use Lemons which don't exist within a 100 mile radius of me, what's the worst that could happen? :D

My best strategy for wolves, zombie dogs, and basically anything that rips your clothes to shreds in melee range:

Pick up a couple of rocks. Go somewhere safe and practice throwing them around. Get at least 1 point in throwing by doing this. Then find some knives, preferably butchers knives, from some outskirts houses. Throw them at every rabbit and squirrel you see. Throw them everywhere. Get your throwing skill up as fast as possible.

Throwing is massively undervalued amongst Cata players, I feel. My character carries a set of 4 Combat knives. They are my primary weapon. Throw a knife at a wolf less than 3 squares away and it'll drop it one hit. Point blank almost guarantees a headshot on whatever's attacking you.

I slept in a building with a broken window one night. I woke up to a bear mauling my ribcage open. 4 turns later, dead bear corpse full of knives. :3

KNIVES!!!! Also great for killing Brutes and Soldiers without taking a single hit. I lub it.
