Life Advice / Re: Question for Christians
« on: April 18, 2011, 01:17:28 am »
If you want to know more about Christianity beyond that Jesus died to cleanse the sins of those who accept and believe in Him as the Son of God ans Saviour, should ask local priests and theologians.  Any answers you get here on these forums are going to be misinterpreted, misunderstood or just plain made up somewhere and then passed on like, "God helps those who help themselves.", which of course isnt in the bible.  I am not saying no one here can be right about a particular question, but the likely hood on someone knowing everything about such a theoligical subject like sin (as used in the Christian context) is very very very slim, unless they themselves have aquired a degree in Christian theology.

Answer I got from a theologian (not me): Sin is a departure from the Will of God.

Also, this statement doesnt help your claim to being part of a debate:  "I just try to sit back, enjoy the fireworks... [rather than drink like most in my job and try to iron things out in the end somehow]".

There, see, thats how out of context ad-hominem attacks work.[/spoiler]

Dude, no that's how lawyers work and maintain some kind of sanity. Clients sometimes do absolutely terrible things and that's a way to cope with the fact that its somehow my job to defend them doing horrible things. If I let it get to me, I'd be drunk 24/7 just to deal with it. There's a reason alcoholism is such a serious problem among attorneys....
Hence my "out of context...attack" statement.  Trying to make a point how we take what people say here and twist it for our own argument without acknowledgeing the what was actually said.  Yeah, I got your actual point.  I went for sarcastic explanation, and failed.*sigh

But now, it seems, the discussion is moving towards a better tone.  And I had nothing to do with it.  Drat.

Though, I wonder if down the line... the US will find a reason to also Drone Strike Mexico in the 'War on Drugs'....

We've got some unarmed (at least I think they're unarmed?) drones doing border surveillance.  They work quite well.
I would be willing to bet that the difference between an armed and unarmed drone is about 10 minutes with the ground crew.  I have a suspicion that the unarmed drones are simply and quietly collecting information and at the same time proving their effectiveness so that the case can be made to arm them.

So... anyone taking issue with my argument and conclusion? Or are we just going to take casual swipes at if the CIA can afford plane tickets for all of its operatives?

I gotta be honest, I've been trying to follow along, and I have no idea what your "argument" actually is, aside from responding to other people's arguments.
*nods agreement.

Truean, you are full ot it.  You are now attributing things I said to SalmonGod in order to win yor pathetic troll fight.  You cannot keep arguments straight and are unwilling to actually read posts and reason out their meaning.  Instead you latch onto any word you can take out of context and use it to justify your personal attacks against anyone who threatens your beleif system.  This thread used to be informative and intellectually stimulating before your inane retorts.  Thanks for making it just another casualty in the internet BS wars.

If you remember this forum is about "Life Advice", not "Why I am Right and Your Wrong and By the Way, Im not Listening Blah Blah Blah."  This isnt the general discussion.

Back on topic:
It was mentioned that the fetus provides no benefits to the mother, but I found some literature that disagrees.  Much of the benefits claimed are transitory and also others are purely psycological (and therefore I think unprovable/undefendable) but I came across a statement about how the fetus basicly provides immunity to cancer, especially breat cancer, while inside the mother.  Perhaps its this concept that allows the backward reasoning of some to claim that abortion increases a womans chacne of getting breast cancer.  While true on some level, it is really just a major play on words and spin-job.

Here are some sources I found really quick doing a search on "benefits of pregnancy":
http://www.pregnancy-info.net/preg-benefit.html
http://www.parents.com/pregnancy/my-body/changing/benefits-of-pregnancy/

I am not advocating these as a reason to avoid abortion.  Its providing info that I found, liek the OP asked for.  Also, did anyone read the info from the link I posted about the Hyde Ammendment?  If you cant get past both sides attacks, you can sort out some cool scientific evaluations and reports from the CDC.

A perfectly good time to use the skill would be if you had surprise on the baddie.  I would take first shot at 33% cripple over first shot at 11% cripple any day, especially if he is a good distance away and i have a chance of repeated "cripple locks" on him till he dies, hopefully before he even reaches me.

*snip

"a new living entity is growing independently within a mother" No, it isn't. "Within a mother," says something doesn't it? It can't survive without her body directly giving it blood supplied support. Not independent. Independent is the keyword here and the pro choice side says it doesn't apply. They're right in this regard. The fetus isn't viable sans support.

This is one of the reasons why pro choice advocates have a leg to stand on as well as the vasectomies argument. Sure, you're closer down the line, but ok, so...? The argument is drilled into the ground that she doesn't have an absolute obligation for supporting it biologically within her.

So, symbitic life form that live off another are not really alive?

Also, what does the fetus needing viable support have to do you you thinking vasectomies are "ending potential life"?   I am simply stating that comparing a fertilized and "independantly growing" (it happens on its own with its own DNA) is in no way the same as sperm or eggs by themselves.  Again, I never said the fetus was indepandent and on its own.  The fact that a fetus will very quickly develop a detectable heartbeat kinda shows how it is its own life-form, not simply an abnormal growth within a mothers body like a cancer.

Also, houses dont need nails necessarily to be built.  (yeah, i know, bullshit quip - but i am perturbededed!)

I am not in anyway arguing a womans obligation for supporting the fetus biologically within her.

Well, the fact that Finn's are psycho nutjobs in the vein of beserker picts when it comes to war doesnt help the russians at all.  The Finn's were terrifyng to them.  Finn's are badass.

(Descendant of psycho nuthob beserker scottish pict tips his hat).

Its so awesome that Vector can answer Nine's post so well and start this conversation. If I hadnt decided to erase my post, it would have just been a nasty flame war.  Sigh, itsa long road, but I am trying to be less "angry retort" and more "respectful disagreement."

baby steps

Also, someone mentioned how the US really didnt do anything i the western theater till alte in the war after the battle of (st peterburg i think they said).  But, Russia's big chance to push back came after the failed German invasion, where they literally ran out of gas something like 17 miles from Moscow?  From early on, the allies (read US) were ripping up Hitlers oil supplies in the middle east, freeing North Africa and other areas in the process (lets not get into what happened there afterwards at this pint).  Then they moved on and removed a crippled Italy.  While Italy wasnt a major threat anymore (thanks to the Bristish- basicly sinking the entire Italian fleet in port and empty cuz they were all ashore partying- with only a few ships), it paved the way for resources to get into Turkey and head north into Russia.  Germany was only beaten because the US and Russia worked as allies together in the western theater.  Alone, Hitler would have won in my opinion.  How long he held onto it is another debate.
