DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So I've finally had fun
« on: May 26, 2008, 09:25:00 pm »
Well today i have had a LOT of FUN (read, lost many many....many times).  Usually to friggen harpy's (no, not my wife/sister/girlfriend fragging my PC :P).  Since i made that post earlier I have been hit by multi-squads of 3 Harpys.  Literally seconds after I kill off a flock(?) of them, a new appears, flies my moat/wall/etc and lays waste yet again.  So far I am 0/11 (yes you read that right) on living to see harpy fodder..err i mean immigrants arrive, today.  Losing is FUN!

I had a fort with harpys and ogres, but they were rare (but deadly).  2 harpys together near end of year 1, 1 ogre at end of year 2, 2 ogres at beginning of year 4 i think.  I would have loved for more than that.  They did their damage but I had plenty or immigrant fodder errrr i mean recruits by then.  I was forced to make my version of arlington cemetary tho.  60 coffins each in a 3x3 engraved tomb with silver doors (well, not all were silver, didnt have enough but....).  everyone else got a 1x1 coffin with a door cuz they are civvy wussies!  :P

Why I love DF in a nutshell:

"The miner Doren Delerdakon and the miner Sarvesh Zimlikot have married.
Congratulations.
They have decided to forego any formal celebrations.
(5 seconds later)
Doren Delerdakon.  Miner has drowned.
Sarvesh Zimlikot.  Miner has drowned."

I swear I didnt do it.  I think they realized "hey, i cant stand this person, why the fuck did I marry them?!  oh shit!!!"

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Stone beds
« on: May 24, 2008, 11:33:00 am »
this is a copy of a post i made in the suggestion forum a few days ago:

*******************
Mattresses.

Why you ask (or dont)? I reallllly get annoyed (cuz im weird) by the fact that my stone loving dwarves sleep on wood bunks. Why cant I make stone beds? Why cant i make a frikken ruby enameled gold encrusted adamantite and aluminum bed (yeah i know....just an example). The answer is obvious currently. Its too hard for my poor wittle stunties to sleep on. Well then, mr handy dandyy clothier should make someone a silk frikken mattress for their poor wittle bruised behinds! unhappy thought = wood bed | happy thought = stone bed | happy thought = plant cloth mattress | happy thought = silk mattress. Oh and remember, it is a crime to remove the mattress tags.........
**********************

any thoughts?

is there any way to move your starting wagon? would be cool if you could hitch ye old ox to the wagon and pull it to a better spot for starting instead of all your poor dwarfies carrying everything all the way there, especially if it is many levels different

is this a stupid question, or just a stupid person asking questions?  it is for you to decide......

DF Gameplay Questions / Automatic workshops?
« on: May 08, 2008, 10:02:00 pm »
reading the wiki leads me to believe that some workshops are automatic, that is to say, you never actually have to goto that building and "[a] add a task" and that a given dwarf with the applicable skill and necessary material will perform the job his/herself.  is this true?  It only seems to work for the fishery as far as i can tell.  what about farm workshops?  will they automatically process plants if a laborer is there or do they need to be [a] added every time a plant is harvested (jeez what pain that would be).  I am unsure of other shops that have only a very few tasks.  please help!
