So I play along for a while, just slashing wolves and flinging rocks at them, then I decide to take on a goblin tower. Halfway through, I notice I've gained a title. ..."The Fondled Nadir". Yup, he's a gigolo.
(For those in need of the definition, a "nadir" is the bottom or lowest point of something. Usually refers to the position of a celestial body, but if you define it as "bottom"... yeah.)
So, there I am. Ears a little pointier than I like, but okay. I travel around a bit, and suddenly, oh! oh! A fight! A pack of wolves off in the distance! Sneaking closer, my hand reaches for my quiver, a finely-carved elven arrow ready to launch. I launch the fletched missile straight at the lead wolf. It passes overhead, not even ruffling the beast's fur. So I throw another. And another. I throw all 36 arrows in my quiver. I even sneak over and pick up a few of the more egregious misses and throw them. I even throw my bow at it. NOT. ONE. HIT.
Disgusted, I lay down and quietly starve to death.
Does anyone else have interesting/amusing failures to relate?
code:* Ra huhs
<Ra> and the rougelike pack I hadn't finished digging through
<Ra> includes dwarf fortress
<Dareon> *nod* Adventurer mode is pretty roguelike. Including often being
hilariously lethal. Like when you can go through an entire goblin tower,
including the demon they worship, without more than a few bruises, cuts, and
minor burns, then get GGPO'd by a groundhog in a random encounter as you make
your way back to town.
<Kali> What XDDD
<Ra> xD
<Ra> that's rogue
<Dareon> Seriously, that happened to me just yesterday. Slaughtered an entire
settlement full of goblins, and the worst wound I got was a useless hand from
ebing surprised by an archer while I was training my wrestlign on an unconscious
goblin with all its limbs broken. (I nicknamed that one "Third Base").
<Lucent> XD

To prevent further 'splosions, all my further embarkations will bring 3 cats and a cage, and cage the female for sale to the first caravan. The vermin population should be kept well in check by the 2 toms and any pets brought with immigrants.
Yes, it's adventure mode, but still.

Otherwise, I'm quite fond of microcline. Twice now I've mined out the entire clump I found, all while imagining my dwarves complaining.
"Miner's log, 8th Timber. By Vor the Purple Greenness, is there no end to this damnable stone? I saw them hauling chisels down here for a mason's earlier, I pity the poor fool stuck down here."
*v-p-l-Masonry*
"Oh you have GOT to be kidding."
It also took me ages to figure out you couldn't place a wall over a constructed floor. My first couple towers always had a column of windows or grates directly above the door.
Hmm... Winchester Mystery House... There's an idea for a challenge fort... Obviously not challenging for the dwarves, but if I upload the save and let people adventure in it... Hmm.
Something eerie. Something which could not be explained by the whims of man or program.
I saw... my trade depot.
I'm a little concerned about my obsidian works test now.
