« on: October 18, 2008, 03:21:00 pm »Just go with the stairs and channels method. It's 100% safe and is reasonably fast. What you need to do is turn the part of the mountain you want gone into up/down stairs, with the exception of the top layer (which should be down stairs) and the bottom layer (which should be up stairs). Starting from the top, designate each level for channelling and don't designate the next one until the current one has been completely removed. If you do it right (and it's hard to do it wrong), no dwarves will get stuck or injured.
Yep, one other good reason to do this is that its very fast and easy to designate.
Simply completely designate each level with downstairs and then completely designate each level again with up/down stairs. (the lowest level of what you want to "kill" will obviously have to be up stairs)
Then just wait until the miners complete their jobs and then you have to channel layer per layer from top to bottom. (upstairs level will have to be cleared of the upstairs via remove upstairs/ramps)
