I'd love to see a design for a swimming pool that would keep water perpetually at 4/7 depth, so you could station dwarves in it and train swimming safely. It should be doable but it's too complex for me to figure out.
That's what I thought at first, but then why would they still be shown in the Status/Animal listing?
Even odder, after restarting the game (having exitted to post that query; the fortress is old enough to really bog my system down) they miraculously reappeared in the Status/Stocks list under 'Small Live Animals.' They definitely weren't there previously, 'cos I looked several times. Now that I can (z)oom to each one I've discovered they're all owned by one of my Elite Marksdwarves. Even though they're still listed as "Not Tame." They also don't show up in that dwarve's inventory ... and I've also checked the contents of he coffer and cabinet in their room. Hmmm... maybe they're stashed in his backpack as munchies? Gotta check that...
I just want to know where they are so that I know they ain't gonna give anyone bad thoughts... as my uber-popular Mayor lost an argument with a waterfall recently and tempers are.... well... very short.
Close. The. Portal.
It helps in many situations.
Hiya,
I started a new fortress just now, got everything nice and running, forges coming up (the whole reason I played this one!), and there seems to be not a tiny bit of sand!
Now I am the type of guy to kick out these little (well little, big) problems with tweak, but I do not know or cannot seem to find out how to create sand using tweak...
I saved my game just before an ambush (accidentally). When i reloaded it up the first thing that heppens is the ambush is spotted and the mason who sees them is massacred and sent flying across the map.
I dont really care much... seeing how he was going out to FISH instead of building my second wall line. So I ingore his death and draft my military, all of who are relatively experienced wrestlers but have no armour, except for one dwarf fully fitted out in adamantine. I send the armoured dwarf out first and he kills a few gobbos, but I notice he is taking an exceptionally long time to do it, I look at him and he's unwounded but then notice in his inventoy he is holding neither the adamantine shield OR his spear (which I had assigned him to get).
Dumbstruck, I look through his inventory more closely and find that he is holding TWO backpack, one on his upper body (where it should be) and another... in his hand.... I turn on combat reports and am flooded with:
"The Elite Guard Commander strikes at the goblin in the upper body with his swordfish leather backpack."
"The shot glances away"
This continues for about 3 pages until ANOTHER ambush shows up.. this time with pikemen. The pikeman and hammermen all swarm on top of him and eventually cut him down.
I was... well.. there isnt any way to describe it. I couldn't believe he had chosen to carry a backpack into battle which contained 3 berries over a shield and spear.
Needless to say the next sequence of keys was Control-Alt-Delete-T-(Click)-Delete-Enter
EEEEK! NO WAY!
first of all, farms need to be irrigated more often. sometimes it takes years, but sooner or later they need a fresh swoop of water. (if you keep it at 1/7 or 2/7 ALL the time, it works, too)
secondly using buckets is HIGHLY inefficient, and ties up the dwarves doing it. they could be drinking alcohol in the meantime, or even do something productive.
and last but not least... BUCKETS? in the name of everything that makes you drunk, buckets?!? i mean... we have mechanisms! and floodgates! and pumps! MACHINERY! with lots of moving parts!
and you want to use a retro-style bucket?
whats next? being nice to elves?
pfffffft. yes, thats it. i can only pfffffft at your suggestion.
i like elves for their wooden crafts
