Alternately you could also ignite a brushfire which would burn away all those pesky shrubs.

"KILL IT WITH FIRE!"

"Some factual information for you. Have you any idea how much damage that room would suffer if I just let a wall of magma roll straight over you?"
"How much?" said Urist.
"None at all," said the player.

Wait, hold up, I know, i did this with floodgates i don't know how many times. One pull, floodgate 1# opens and floodgate 2# closes. it's never failed me before.

I've never tried it with bridges, but i don't see a reason why the device would arbitrarily work differently.

I tried it with doors and it didn't work. Maybe it's just floodgates.

Ooh, a masterpiece bauxite table?

Couple it with a bauxite chair and you could have something analogous to Charlemagne's mythical asbestos tablecloth.

Cleanse it by immersion in magma! (Or lock the doors and incinerate a noble while they sit down to eat)

Tweaking init settings to alter performance is one of those YMMV things.

Depending on the map someone is playing in, the effect of various changes can probably differ a lot.

Disabling cave-ins sounds really weird, though. I don't see how that would help either unless there was something gnarly going on with magma and water mixing in the tube, or something like that.

They should channel the magma out in the ocean and make an obsidian highway to the US.
They can smooth it and engrave cheese on the stuff aswell!

The cave-ins would slow the world to a standstill  :-\

(Driving to Hawaii from LA on an obsidian bridge? Trippy)

Being optimistic about toady releasing in a timely manner is a good way to get disappointed quick.

Maybe, but we can't help ourselves. Exciting things are in the works.

I can't wait to beat a Demon to death with this thing!

You should totally throw it at him and see if he explodes.

At least you dragon was a challenge.  I have had 2 dragons show up, the first wandered into my Trade Depot and was immediately killed by a combination of traps and a Human Crossbower.

The most recent showed up at my fort missing both legs and his nose.  He couldn't take more than 3 steps before passing out.  His was killed by a Competent Macedwarf. :(

At least he wasn't killed by an incompetent macedwarf.

That sounds like a pretty interesting way to make art, really (from the artist's standpoint, at the least). Take things you already have or are able to find, and make something totally different from them. Resourcefulness is fun.

Erm, one could argue that a self-proclaimed artist who does not know Malevich can't be much of an artist ... *cough*

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There's a reason I can call myself an artist.

I don't know Malevich, nor do I care to. I do know one Marcus Rothko and he's the most pathetic excuse for an artist ever to exist, with the possible exception of his mimickers.

May we stop this bickering now, or will this have to balloon into a pointless debate on bullshit art minimalism?

Check out those bell reducers!

yeah, but your square wouldnt be ART.

look at that!  well proportioned, but rugged.  its rough lines but identifyable angles evoke images of the eternal struggle between immaculate geometry and the temptations of decadant non-conformity.

I think we should all take a moment to appreciate Ryo's representation of the masterpiece Abanibel.

That post made me want to barge into LACMA with a can of turpentine and a rag.

also, they didn't really have "pixels" in 1913

Meh, creating images from a compound of multiple small polygons is an ancient concept. Mosaics, needlework, embroidery, etc.

The term pixel may be recent but the conceptual basis of it is millennia old.

Yes, my current fortress has an artifact basalt bed.

I'm saving it in the artifact vault in case I can lure a King.

Sometimes a dwarf will end up on a chain, but... that can be fixed if he is too important. and if not well 150 days of sleeping next to the booze pile and some excellent beds is not that bad of a punishment.

Chain you to a bed for five months, see how you like it. I'd get tired of that real quick.

I'm resisting the temptation to make a dirty joke
