DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Troll Leatherworker, Troll Pump Operator
« on: June 22, 2011, 03:28:08 pm »
So, I have an utterly bizarre situation in my fort. This is slightly modded DF. (no exotics; war rabbits and war giant badgers; extra reactions for free materials when I feel like cheating; I also used RuneSmith a little to genocide goblin ambushes earlier to get the fort set up.) I set up a magma flooding trap in my entrance, and bait goblins into it by tossing War Rabbits into the area. I had some trolls show up with a goblin siege, and in the (drawn out, they were being ineffective at killing) process of killing the rabbit, two of the trolls suddenly changed job into a Troll Leatherworker and a Troll Pump Operator, who were then afraid of my dwarves/pets and would run away instead of going for combat.
Has this happened to anyone else?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ghosts
« on: June 21, 2011, 11:03:47 pm »
Is there a way to turn off ghosts? I have an un-engravable ghost haunting my fort and it's pissing me off.

DF Suggestions / Custom Power-Generation Workshops
« on: September 27, 2009, 06:38:59 pm »
Since the custom workshops aren't at all clear yet from what I've seen, I have a suggestion for something that should be possible:
Workshops that generate power, either automatically (like windmills) or on some condition (like waterwheels, perhaps magma-powered fans that work on 'hot air' rising from the magma. In other words, a windmill-shaped construction that's powered by having magma under it like magma workshops)
Rationale for magma fans: At least some estates in Britain had mechanical devices that used a fan over the fireplace to automatically turn the spit that the meat's roasting on. I don't know exactly what period the one I saw was from, though.

DF Suggestions / Military Coordination
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:53:41 pm »
I checked and I don't think this has been suggested before, but I didn't do a very thorough search.
Military dwarves should be able to coordinate actions.
Phalanx formations for a bonus to shield deflection.
Arrow volley formations for when realistic reload times are implemented. Row 1 fires arrows, starts reloading while Row 2 fires arrows, Row 2 starts reloading while Row 3 fires, Row 3 starts reloading while Row 1 fires.
Lining up in formation before charging enemies so that all the dwarves in the formation show up at roughly the same time instead of 'when they feel like it'.

DF Modding / Making creatures butcherable
« on: June 19, 2009, 10:35:18 am »
I'm looking to be able to make Goblin Leather objects, Elf Leather goods (to trade to the elves, of course)...
How does this work? I don't see a [butcherable] token and I don't know what sets Goblins apart from Cats in terms of being butcherable.

DF Suggestions / Announcement related suggestion
« on: February 20, 2009, 12:34:16 pm »
Reading yesterday's devblog...
As long as you're redoing these notices, I'd suggest having the ability to set all notices to, say, 'display' (or whatever 'show/don't show' you're already going to be doing) but also have the options of 'pause', 'center on announcement', and whatever other things already happen on announcements for all of the announcements. So if you felt like it you could have it pause and recenter on dwarves cancelling jobs, or you could have it display the announcement and recenter on hitting warm/damp stone, but not pause. Or display and pause, or center and pause, so on.

DF Suggestions / A few suggestions
« on: August 28, 2008, 08:24:45 am »
I'd like to suggest an assignable position (like hoardmaster, broker, manager, or sheriff) of 'Dwarven Drill Sergeant' (or other title like that) who can train 10 or so other dwarves in the weapon skill that the dwarf knows.
And then I'd like a new skill that deals with first aid, and dwarves with first aid trained can work with dwarves to improve their rate of healing, possibly even helping to heal nerve damage. You could have a dabbling doctor barely help the recovery rate (or even possibly make it worse) but have a legendary doctor setting bones and adjusting backs to make dwarves heal in a much shorter time.

DF General Discussion / 'Cannibal' Elves - Did I miss something?
« on: July 20, 2008, 12:40:02 pm »
Cannibalism isn't eating sentient creatures, it's eating your OWN SPECIES.
Unless the elves have started eating their own young for kicks, they're not cannibals. They're just opportunistic and carnivorous.
