DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Problems Dumping
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:26:48 am »
It was my own stupidity, it seems... there was an undead alpaca just out of chase range, but just within "OMG" range for the dwarves.

I had shut off job stop notices, but they kept freaking out because of the zombie alpaca.

*facepalm*

So I made it next to the hole, they dumped in an anvil they traded for... but then won't dump anything else.

Refuse is set on Dwarves Gather, Gather from Outside, Ignore Vermin Remains, Dump all but corpses (for butchering)... and I've flagged various barrels of food / etc to dump. Should I be flagging the food inside the barrel... ?

This may be the problem, I designated 2 spaces, one included the hole. Let me try that!

Edit: That did it! Didn't it used to work differently? I used to do it over the hole before, I thought... but it has been awhile!

Ack! So I am running a completely closed off initial 7 while migrants come and build a camp outside.

The idea is that the 7 sealed into the mountain are living a pure life and food is dumped in through a hole.

Unfortunately I designated the dump, and designated the items to be dumped, but my dwarves aren't dumping... they're idle, all hauling is on... am I missing something?

They have a vast capacity to randomly, oh, I don't know...
RUIN THE GAME

... I sort of wish they could be disabled in the inits somewhere.

Is there a way to make this happen, or am I pretty much stuck?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Worst Forgotten Beast You've Had
« on: February 02, 2011, 02:59:57 am »
I have had occasionally pathetic forgotten beasts, the ones who seem to die from the glance of an untrained dog... but tonight I got the worst forgotten beast I've ever had, and it made me wonder... what sorts of random nastiness have others had generated?

Just in case someone wants to be surprised at some of the horrors that may wait randomly for them...

DF Suggestions / Fake limbs.

To give those dwarves with limbs amputated by goblin surgery a better life!

(prosthetic legs could use the crutch walking skill)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Gobbos vs. Gobbos: TO THE DEATH!
« on: January 31, 2011, 11:19:05 pm »
Ha, I was elated to discover that my cut-off from the surface base has two groups of goblins that come to ambush the unlucky settlers who are not worthy to enter.

Apparently these two groups are also at war with each other, so I'll get ambush groups up the wazoo, but they mostly fight each other (thus resulting in them usually fleeing) ...

Has anyone else had this happen? I find it high-larious :)

Elbel Yelledcastle the Wills of Braving was a diety that occurs in the myths of the Stoked Bodice. Elbel was most often depicted as a female fly and was associated with the sky and the wind.

DF General Discussion / Pre-publish publish?
« on: February 06, 2009, 03:32:37 pm »
I'm so excited about being able to have my dwarves hurt/be hurt (by) things in new ways... that I have to ask: Is there a possibility for a pre-release publish with wounds?

Just curious :)

DF Bug Reports / Muddy Unknown ...
« on: July 10, 2008, 03:20:25 pm »
This might be a known issue, but...

... those of you following the exciting tale of my drowned ice-river dwarves may also recall two survived. Well, they built a series of bridges on the multiple levels to get around a little easier... anyway... I decided to try and make floors off of the bridges to see if I could.

I did, I made two tiles, and the completion of a third caused a cave in (knocking the poor mason out, causing the baby to fall into the river) ... but the BUG is:

Where the tiles fell... instead of the river (which got smashed into) ... there are now two tiles that say "Muddy Unknown" ... one of these spaces is incapable of having water flow into it... which is odd, odd, odd!

Thought I'd share :)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Drowning Start

Why would you need to farm, you could just fish for food and have dwarfs drink water. Altough you might want to surface time to time to brew alcohol. Mmhhh... Now it got me wondering. How and if fishing would work underwater?

I've started on river ice myself a few times. One time I was trapped in a canyon. I had to abandon ship... err... wagon and dig into the cliff face ASAP. In the end I was left with a few straps of food, a bit of wood, a dead miner and six hungry dwarfs. Thing was that my miner was swimming with the carp with my only pick. So my dwarfs died slowly in a small cave. Somehow they managed to survive till autumn when I got reinforcements. Took me two years before I had another pick.

That canyon incident is exactly what happened... though the 2 survivors survived because one was a miner, mined up to the surface where they ate herbs til a caravan came and we could trade junk for eeked out food, and then some migrants came, I set them to hunt so we could sell their clothes for food when the wolves killed them, and eat the wolves they managed to kill.

Cruel? Sure.... fun? Definitely :)
