DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Starting a fort in a.... GLACIER!
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:32:10 pm »
I have never seen an ocean freeze, or even - and this sounds cool - freeze just the top z-layer, if I'm reading you correctly.

If anyone has an ocean where just the top z-layer froze, I'd love to see the worldseed. Combined with that 'embark anywhere' utility, that'd make an awesome challenge fort.

Frankly, until I see the seed, I'm suspicious about this claim.

I don't usually care if I have flux or not. How is it more useful then magma? I mean, by the time I really need to make high-quality weapons  I can just melt down the gifts the gobbos will send me. Or trade for flux.

Edit: Oops, I saw a comment about flux at the beginning of the thread, not noticing that comment was many months before today's recent reply. Sorry!

DF Suggestions / Nobility Killing Penalty Idea!
« on: January 19, 2009, 01:38:11 pm »

I just got an awesome idea for a n easy way to penalize DF players for ensuring that their nobility suffers 'unfortunate accidents.' Its simple. If a noble /isn't/ killed by a creature (elf, goblin, monster, megabeast) - aka 'doesn't die in honorable dwarvenly combat)....

....

He rises from the dead as a skeleton or ghost after a randomn amount of time. I got the idea from reading  the 'reward stories' in the wiki, where a dwarf noble who suffered an 'unfortunate accident' built himself his own section of the tunnels, which was hidden, and pulled a dwarf to he death via a hidden trapdoor. Now, I'm not saying  they should be able to dig  hidden areas from which to torment your dwarves (though that would be wicked cool) - but seeing a message 'The old King has risen from his grave!' and seeing a skeleton running around whatever tomb you put him in would rock.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Gremlin Civ?

I just tried regenning  it. Exact same world. Same installation.

HOWEVER - when I try it on a vanilla installation....I get a normal world. So it seems like it has to be a mod, except I have no relevant mods.

Note: I do have the 'purge historical figures' thing on. Still, there seems to be less then 800 dwarves in the world. And dwarves don't show up on the 'play now' adventure screen.

DF Bug Reports / Gremlin Civ?
« on: January 19, 2009, 04:33:07 am »
So, I'm playing  DF. Lalalalalalala. I had assembled a new copy to cut back on my mod usage to the essential mods. No civ mods installed, and I was careful to make sure my other mods had their /own/ raws, rather then editing current ones in by hand. I'm like 12 hours in, when I glance at the civ screen and notice....my enemy is a gremlin civ. And then when I look at the legends.... there are merpeople mentioned in it. But neither are in my entity_default, and they both have the /standard/ entries for their kind. And no, I have no merpeople or gremlins as added entities. Because I wouldn't believe me either, the following spoiler has my entity_default raw.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And because I STILL don't believe it:

....and apparently my /dwarves are human/

What. The. Hell?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Plague HELP!
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:58:11 am »
They are vermin corpses. I use mayday all the time.
You have to designate a refuse stockpile for your dwarves to take them away. Make sure it has either 1. A door, or 2.Is far away from where dwarves go. It will stink a purple cloud, and upset them.

And when in doubt, the 'k' look key is your friend

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Monster adventurers?
« on: January 18, 2009, 10:20:01 pm »
I seriously want to try sleeping on a glacier now as a spirit of fire. (I suppose the ocean trick would be fun, but since it wouldn't change anything in Dwarf mode...)

The only monsters I've played in adventure mode are...I tried playing a Siren once, I tried being a succubus once, and I tried being  a goblin once. I was rather surprised people didn't just randomly attack me.

DF General Discussion / Re: I'm having trouble with the world painter
« on: January 18, 2009, 10:11:52 pm »
I avoid the world painter. It makes no sense, and until there is a thorough wiki page dedicated to it (no idea why there isn't) or until toady writes up an instruction manual for it, I'll continue to avoid it.

DF Suggestions / Re: Presentation for the blind
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:48:30 pm »
Your average person /with sight/ can barely play DF, and even for those of us who play it, it has usability issues. I hate to say it, but I can't imagine a blind person being able to play it.

DF General Discussion / Re: Immortality, by whatever means necessary
« on: January 18, 2009, 11:49:35 am »
A dwarf becomes immortal through one means: crafting a masterpeice.

Frankly, I think there should be a special section of the legends screen listing all masterpieces which have ever been created.

Personally, /we/ can become immortal by raising an army large enough to sweep across the world, drowning our enemies in rivers of blood, and bringing  peace and harmony to it by uniting  it under a single flag.

Ours, of course.

So do they ignore walls sometime, or all of the time? Is this a universal bug, or a sometimes bug?

Hahahahah, yes.
