Oh wow, it is actually going to come out now... last time I looked it had been dead for like 5 years o.O (well, under slow development with no publisher or hope of release ever)

I played a game quite similar to what you describe with floating islands etc... let me see if I can find it...

And what I wish existed... Wizardry 9, Majesty 2, MoO3 (Not the giant turd it turned into)

DF Suggestions / Re: Use UPX on dwarfort.exe
« on: July 02, 2008, 07:06:50 pm »
dwarfort.exe currently takes up 2.1 mb of the archive download so that would be 0.5 mb of savings by using UPX on it first.

While I'm not personally a fan of using other formats, max compression .rar yields a 4.7mb archive; .7z yields 4.4mb archive; .cab yields 4.6mb archive; .arc yields 4.5mb (dwarfort.exe compresses to about 1.5mb in most of these)

Trying to compress dwarfort.exe with UPX gives me an error :/

How does a complete overhaul of the entire world mechanics NOT advance adventure mode?

Anyways, signed by my +Giant Adamantine Axe Blade+!

It slices, it dices, it cuts off limbs 99.9% of the time no matter what it hits!

A goblin lasher tore open one of my adventurer's throat with a scourge last night... and it got stuck in his throat... needless to say that adventurer didn't live much longer.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: The mules have declared war on me!
« on: September 25, 2007, 10:59:00 am »
When mules have goods it means that those are from a fortress that traded with that civ.  I think the mules just end up places with whatever goods you loaded up on them.  And the human wagons loaded with goods from your fortresses end up self-destructing in the human towns and scattering things everywhere.

The mule could be associated with some other entity that you are at war with... possibly.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Wrestling

Wrestlers wearing just cloth are pretty darn evasive.  I was quite surprised the other day when I was messing around in human towns and when I made a pure wrestler I was dodging arrows!

That's why I don't do the sneaking thing anymore... whenever I get spotted it seems some sort of pointy object ends up imbedded in my heart or face.

I don't think dwarves have shops in adventure mode right now.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The benefits of elephant maps

Elephants herds also make very good distractions for when a bronze colossus shows up.

Well... until they walked right past the front door and the colossus saw a cat pop it's head out.

My hammer lords were finally trained up enough by then (he had been running around for about a year chasing elephants) to make short work of him in a few swings which was a relief.

Nobles are useful, who else is going to clean off the antman parts off of the weapon traps while the antmen are attacking?

Don't worry about the construction of coins from the bookkeeper.  He wants enough coins to fill the entire mountain with.  You can safely ignore the bookkeeper, I've never had any dwarves punished for failing to make millions of coins.

I'm not sure if it's luck, or keeping my nobles extremely happy, or what, but I have ignored many mandates from various nobles and not have anyone receive a punishment for it.  The only truely evil mandates are the export violations that pop up right after you trade away whatever just got banned.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Animal modding question

The [CHILD] tag is how old (in years, I think) the animal has to be before it becomes an adult.  I wonder if you can put in a decimal number?  Or 0 for instant adults?  Or not include it at all?  Experiment a bit and see what happens once you have rabbits.  Just be careful not to mess around with temperature or you might have spontaneously combusting rabbits!

[LITTERSIZE] might have something to do with the number of children born?  So like [LITTERSIZE:3:6] means 3-6 children born each time?  Not sure, haven't really dealt with that tag yet (since I didn't even know it existed).

The list on the wiki is definately a lot larger than before but most of the tags are still unknown as to what they do.  Experiment and find out!
