I don't really see ANY loss at all when I save .jpg files at 100% quality using any decent program.  You can get a free one at: http://www.irfanview.com/

I'd say... realisitc photo save as 100% quality .jpg

256 color things make sure it is first actually 256 colors (save it as a 256 color .bmp) and then save as .png or .gif

16 color things (DF pics) save as a 16 color .bmp to make sure and then turn into a .png or .gif

Depending upon circumstances the .png or .gif will vary in which one is smaller for low color images.  For example: if you save the above photo as a monochrome .bmp (pure black and white only) and then a .png it's VERY small and the only loss is turning gray into white.

The hard part is finding decent image hosting that will let you put up something other than a .jpg...

Hmmm, I also had an inflate error after messing around with addy stuff as an adventurer.

Maybe taking the addy furniture with me wasn't a good idea?

If that's true then... it wasn't the elves punishing me for destroying them all with my +Giant, Adamantine Axe Blade+... it was the demons living inside my furniture!

Ya... I usually end up with an inflate error when I run around the world in adventure mode destroying all the elves I can find.  Not sure what causes it, but I'll try to limit my destruction to certain things and see if I can isolate the problem.

Hmmm, new item system, will have to give it a try.  I never really liked a lot of the changes when Astonia went into v3.

That seems to be how Dwarf Fortress development works, anyhow.</STRONG>

I'm pretty sure Toady said he was considering putting up the new version on the main page with a different heading like "Under Development Version" or something to that effect until he believes it is stable enough to replace the old version.

On a side note, consider using tinyurl.com to reduce those video clips you put in your post.  Otherwise, it forces the browser window to stretch out really far.</STRONG>

Consider using a smaller font and/or a larger resolution!

Or I guess the poster could post like
Video 1
Video 2
and use the URL tags.

The fact he is twelve and is playing the game forces me to give the little tike cudos. Lads escaped from the humdrum crappy existance of graphic gaming. Hazzah! Another recruit in the war against the brain leach.

Thank you for the reality check!  I realize it now what was annoying me.  It wasn't Bien so much as what he represents.  He represents the curiousity, imagination, enthusiasm, and many other burning passions of humanity.  Those passions left behind in my childhood.  He is one of the few, who at the age of twelve has not had his spirit crushed.  Let's not be the ones to crush it.

Anyways, weapon traps and magma defense are awesome!

I've never tried out cage traps, those some like they have fun uses.

In the 7th year, assuming all dwarves cloaks are made only every Moonstone of every year, how many cloaks do your tailors need to make this year? Remember to subtract 40% of the total due to crocodiles, cave ins, elephants, drowning, fell moods, starvation, Goblins, sparring accidents, Tentacle Demons, art defacement, and spontaneous combustion.</STRONG>

About 500 cloaks and 24 new shops if the economy has started so that they manage to get enough cloaks in the stores for someone to buy since all your existing stores are full of 400 left mittens.

I had a dwarf who was missing a leg lay in pain for a year or so trying to recover from some other lighter wounds but being unable to because of falling unconcious so much.

Then one day he had got a mood to take over the butcher shop...

He proceeded to crawl around the fortress for a few weeks until he killed someone and return their corpse to the butchery to make the artifact.

Since he fell unconcious so much it took him about a year to complete the artifact dwarf bone leggings.

He then turned into a legendary bonecrafter and became tough enough to not fall unconcious from his missing leg.

I was watching the human merchants approach and while one of the wagons was crossing a bridge a fox ran over top of it and the wagon turned into a log...

Then all the merchants left, we shall see how this turns out, maybe I'll get my first human siege.

Nothing else of note has happened to this fortress so about 1/3 of the engravings are a picture of a wagon.  The wagon is falling.

I had a bronze colossus come to my fort once.  He followed a cat inside and my foolish captain of the guard attacked him and ended up smashed into a wall.

Then one of my Hammer Lords decided to stop boozing it up and came over and smashed the colossus to many pieces with his masterpiece war hammer.  Then I had a masterpiece statue... of his upper body and head seeing as how his arms, legs, and lower body were all strewn across the floor.

You mean you don't like the green sea that forms after every goblin siege?  I find it rather amusing... until I go out into the sun and feel a bit nauseous myself!
