Should be possible I think! Just enter the save of the world you wanna edit I think, and swap out the images! Graphics are on a per world basis so everything should be fine with just replacing the image,,, I think!

Tilesets and Graphics / Re: Help with graphic sets

Makset one thing I notice is that you're trying to do 16x16, when the current non-ascii mode uses only 32x32 sprites!
Also why not just edit the existing spritesheets in the vanilla folder? At least to start. You don't really need to focus on raws too much until you're ready to like, publish your mod as a separate thing from vanilla, at least imo!

I really wanna make my own graphics pack, but gee it's so overwhelming, especially for a really novice pixel artist. I didn't pursue my tileset in classic yet because I was hoping for premium to make it easier to separate things like zeroes from coffins for example, and it did, but now it feels harder to figure out in that there is now a lot more sprites to make! So maybe I should stick with making a classic tileset, but if I do that, then I'll be stuck having to consider what things share tiles with what! I dont know what path to go down... any suggestions from more experiences people than I? Furthermore as an actual question, why do the statue image pages not line up 32x32 correctly? when I try to put them on a 32x32 grid, they have too much white space inbetween, anyone know why?

That white space is meant to be transparent. The image editor you are using is incorrectly identifying those pixels as white. I'm guessing that you are using Paint. You need to use a different editor that can properly handle transparency. I think Paint 3D should suffice.

I use graphicsgale and I figured it out thx!!!
Now to see if I can attempt such a project, it took a team of professional spriters for dwarf fortress to finish all those sprites, even if I go for my intended ascii inspired graphics, its quite the workload

Personally i'm looking forward to the Information features.

The current version of DF just isn't very good at presenting comprehensive information about your fort.
IMO, what I look forward to a lot is the fact that clothes show on the dwarf, and finally dyes can be of some use now that they can be visually represented like that!

DF Modding / Re: Questions and advice about making a tileset/graphics set?

Because if so, I was wondering why other people don't use the dwarf and military dwarf tiles for a different object? Because the dwarves themselves will be replaced by the graphic set and won't show as the ascii art, right?

Right, but you can't override corpses, so your dead dwarves will be whatever that tile is. You can change the tile from [CREATURE_TILE:1] to whatever other tile you find suitable for corpses and delete [CREATURE_SOLDIER_TILE:2] to get around this though.
Ah! Thank you Dubya! I completely forgot to consider corpses... I really appreciate it!!!

Using those tiles for anything else requires editing the raw file of that object/plant.  Some things do not even have a raw file (e.g. hives only have it as an item, not as a building)
Mhm! I should really look into the raws of them more, figure all that out...

DF Modding / Questions and advice about making a tileset/graphics set?
« on: February 01, 2022, 07:04:23 pm »
Hey! I just made an account to ask a couple questions about making my own tileset and graphic set as well! Pardon me if this isn't the right place to ask it!

Anyways, I was just wondering, when it comes to reassigning different parts of a tileset to a different tile, it can be any tile right? Because if so, I was wondering why other people don't use the dwarf and military dwarf tiles for a different object? Because the dwarves themselves will be replaced by the graphic set and won't show as the ascii art, right? I can see the regular dwarf face as being needed for status flashing effects though... hmm. So yea! I know there are a few tiles that aren't used for anything, is there any specific thing that would be best put in those free spaces?
General tileset and graphic set advice welcome as well obviously! I'm a bit of a novice heh!
