DF Adventure Mode Discussion / The Everlasting Plane
« on: October 11, 2008, 11:52:27 pm »
I have somehow genned a world with too many unstoppable megabeasts. I haven't had any trained adventurers survive more than one round with any of them.
There's a cyclops who now wields a shield. Used it to break my head open before i even got to attack. He's got thirty kills, and now that he has a shield, he's unstoppable.
Then there's a skeletal titan. Now that shit is just scary.
And there's even a surviving demon with thirty of her own kills.
I'm in for the fight of my DF career. It makes me wish the Army Arc was done...

Something else that can make more sense in the armor department would be to add the civ controllable tag to humans in the entity raw.

Other Games / Re: Classic console games

Alright, BUMP

Everyone's favorite classics, now Sega Saturn, (just kidding), Ps1, N64, and Dreamcast.

PS1: Besides the obvious, ( the ff series) there were the Gex series (unique), and my first Metal Slug game.
N64: Easy, Conker's Bad Fur Day, funny ass game with amazing multiplayer scenarios.
Dreamcast: Oh holy grail, damn ps2 for sinking this console. There was Power Stone 1 and 2, a sublime fighting game, and still one of my favorites (was remade for the psp), and Toy Commander. That game was the SHIT.

Traps are not at all workable, at least not in this version. The only thing adventurers can manipulate are levers.

Well, it's as done as it's getting. I forgot to turn off invasion, so progress was halted by hammergoblins. There's plenty there if someone wants to build upon Clashedpalace, but I'm letting it go.

It's been tough with school, but the delay is my faulty design causing dwarves to require hauling metal bars several miles. The hard part is almost over, and I finally got immigrants, so progress should speed tenfold.

Like most homebrew, I have it stuck in the 1.50 folder. I haven't talked to anyone who's been using 1.0. I say what could it hurt, and that you might as well try it anyway.

Progress is going smoothly. I'm no expert designer and fairly new to improvised traps, so I'm just creating an interesting megastructure with loot at the end. Right now I'm guessing the entire dungeon may take a half hour to get through, considering the cave creatures who seem to move in when I check it out in adventure mode. I should be able to pass the map along by the end of this weekend.

Hmm . It was a weapon trap and should have automatically reset, so that wasn't the problem. I'll test something with a pressure plate next, but it's not looking good so far. I'll also gen a new world with adv traps already set to yes to see if it makes a difference.

Edit: I'm having about as much luck as Qloos. Pressure plates are a no go. I've yet to try it with a new world yet, but I'll get there.

Double EDIT:  I'm sad to report that even genning a new world with adv traps on yes, pressure plates and weapon traps do not work. :(
We still have levers however, so traps will have to be guess the right lever.

I did a temp abandon and found that I can saunter straight through the traps I had set up. Damn it. I am pleased to report though that the portion of the dungeon I finished was full of troglodytes and ratmen. You don't think it's possible that one of them set off the trap? Should test with a cage trap and see if there's a trapped troggy inside.
