General Discussion / Re: Your Dwarf Fortress Rig
« on: September 15, 2008, 10:10:11 pm »

 Microsoft XP
 AMD Athlon XP 180+
 1.50 GHz
 225 MB of RAM

Aaaand, that's it. I think it's eight years old now. I also think it survived a fire. And numerous power surges with no protector.

I think it has sentience like Short Circuit. Every time I make a Hello World program, the screen turns a red tint and all o's get corrupted, making them blank. And every time something dies in a game a strange scream is heard, but not from the speakers. Also, for some reason, all disks coming out of the disk drive fly out at tremendous speeds.

Wow, i mean wow. I'm just at a loss for words.

Ha well theres actually a mod i've played with the body part Genitals. Pages in the legends screen listed Urist McDwarf slashed off Kutsmob *Nutsfliers* genitals. (real last name and very appropriate for the occasion)

Crotch shots and buffout.
Well the count of people truly serious about Adventure mode currently counts 3.

DF Modding / Re: Modding questions thread.

Simple question, I noticed Dwarves have a king or queen per civ, who will tell you where the megabeasts are, and was wondering how to make it so that the humans have a civ leader again.

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Player Demographics?

I'm 20, and discovered DF about 6 months ago when I was 19. I saw the game on tigsource all the time, and finally decided to try it. I started in AM, and was first ambushed by a lion. I put a bolt into his stomach, when he gave in to pain and vomited. I was forever hooked.

I agree fully. I am a fan of adventure mode, and would like to see something as simple as adventurers having a tie to the world they exist in, meaning they don't appear out of thin air. It would be nice if our adventurer existed persistently within the world, having a pre-existing family.

I know this and most of what's discussed here is already in dev_now, but the first feature adventure mode will get next will be the ability to process corpses for meat, and then more skill preliminaries. This includes the ability to create a hideout for the character by mining or building from raw materials.

It looks to be a few months off before this will be started, as Toady seems to be focusing on bugfixes and military structure, but this means something big for AM. A current objective as he listed yesterday is to make civs continue wars after world gen. Maybe this means we can participate in battles? Only time will tell now.

Life Advice / Re: Best new browser?
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:05:40 pm »
IE stopped working after i installed python and the runtimes needed for DF companion, i'd say a .dll error but all other browsers work fine, so i blame IE.

Thanks everyone! I'm using firefox now with most of umiman's plugin suggestions, and am enjoying it so far. But what's this about some sites not working in firefox?

Somehow, the description of that tunic along with your avatar, yields a funny image in my head.

Life Advice / Best new browser?
« on: September 10, 2008, 10:36:03 pm »
I tried to get dwarf companion working using python 2.52, never got it working, messed around with the .dll files and everything.
Only now, for some reason, IE7 is refusing to show java, which also limits which links i can click on.
I've reinstalled Java and flash, but have had no luck. Can anyone help?

Edit: The issue is resolved, almost. IE wouldn't let me install a new browser,so i was stuck. But itunes had auto-installed safari, so i'm using it for now. But what's best? Firefox, or google chrome. I'm done with IE forever.

When you know your sedimentary layer better than a geologist does.

When you wonder why such a fancy chair isn't adorned with hanging rings of kitten leather.
