Actually, I looked at the save files again, and the game actually did a successful geoscape autosave after the base assault I fought, and I can reload that and it'll work. Loading a save from within the base assault and finishing the fight also works. It only reliably breaks when I load the save I made before the base assault.
I still feel like I should maybe leave a bug report somewhere, but I don't want to make a forum account just for that.

I've hit a bit of a snag. I get a base assault, and if I order my base defences to fire, I instantly get a second base assault. If I use base defences again, the game crashes.
If I select "Let them in" on the second base assault, and fight off all the invaders (it's a bunch of ratmen with plasma weapons), I get a third base assault. Again, the game crashes if I use my base defences.
I don't want to fight infinite ratman waves forever. Is there a way I can fix it myself, or should I just contact the developer?

In my experience, fire is pretty useful against most low-to-mid level enemies. It does damage over time, and causes extra morale damage. A lot of high-level enemies are resistant, or have such high bravery that being set on fire isn't going to faze them much, but regular mooks are going to panic and then die.

In the end i think i would still get the deal for the weapons if you don't have yet access to easily acquirable lasers, those eurosyndicate versions of the lasers are in their stats very good.
Well, I got NERF laser pistols and the musket-styled three-shot Laslock pistols. I guess I'll think about it.

Dostoevsky, Confederate gear includes electric lassos, which are range seven, and do 60 electric damage. They need high throwing skill to be effective, and a lot of TUs, but they're great if you have someone who can wield them. I can't remember what the exact research path was, I think it might be one of the bounty hunting rewards.

So those Eurosyndicate missions everyone's complaining about start with the research "*EuroSyndicate Deal*", not with "Contacts: EuroSyndicate", right? They sound awful and I don't want to deal with them.

All factions that don't use a ship for terror attacks use the "signal" instead.
Can confirm. It was ratmen.

This is certainly something, but I have no idea what.

a quick axe to the head is more effective at eliminating threats, though it makes for lousy loot. (And, more importantly, prevents the ridiculously annoying situation of people waking up, forcing you to clear the map over and over.)
Don't enemies always surrender, after they've been knocked out once?

The best source of baby nukes are supply ships.
They are, but note that the security will fire the baby nukes at you.

I thought I was going to have an easy crashed ship mission, but then the last guy turned out to be a literal terminator. Killer Droid Mk.801 disguised as a Tough Girl. It's got some kind of arm cannon, and it wiped the floor with my whole squad.
I might have to savescum back to before landing and outfit my gals differently. See if the grenade launcher does anything.

What kind of weapons are good against armored cars? I just killed one, with grenades and bullet spam, but it didn't feel like the optimal approach. Only lost two hands, but I had to savescum quite a bit to get that low.
The loot had better be good.
I bet it won't be.

Spoiler: "Burning wreckage" (click to show/hide)

edit: It's fucking nothing. Maybe the car had something, but it was destroyed by the one grenade that exploded after it was already dead?

After looking it up, I no longer know anything. The Ufopedia page on Piratez armor has a note that the Bad Touch ability from Wench suit ignores armor. However, the Bootypedia entry on Bad Touch says the opposite of that, claiming that armor is extra effective against it. I'm assuming that Ufopedia has outdated information, but it could also be mixing it up with a different seduction ability given by some higher-tier armor. I haven't gotten that in game so I can't easily check how it works.

Looks like i'll need some big stun artillery for that guy to be captured (as he is only affected by 85% of the daze type of damage).
How about Charm damage instead? I think it ignores armor, making it an attractive option here since the Provost is absolutely plated.

'e' is for elves, under the sky
smiley face for the dwarf-lords in their halls of stone
'U' for mortal men, doomed to die
'&' for the dark lord on his dark throne

I think I just committed a war crime.

It was an Escape Tower mission, and I had successfully neutralized the thugs outside the tower, and captured the wizard for interrogation. I still had the enemy escape craft to deal with, though. I cracked it open with a hammer, and found something like five people, civilian types like Tough Guys and Savvy Gals. Also two dogs. Nothing too strong, but the humans had submachine guns, and I only had two gals in position at the roof. So, instead of trying to fight fair, I chucked an incendiary through the door and stepped back. Most of them just burned, and my reaction fire got the few that got out.
Got negative points for killing them, but the total score was around +600 thanks to all the assassination tokens. I guess they were technically fair game, due to aiding and abetting a known wizard, but I feel a bit bad about it.
