Why would I read the comments? Why would anyone read the comments? ._.
Because, as much as I would like to marginalize their importance, they are a very real part of culture. And apparently they represent no small part of the opposition to Sarkeesian.

[Citation needed]
If most of Sarkeesian's "opposition" was Youtube commenters, I think that would just be kind of sad. You'd think she could at least get some proper opposition. Maybe I'm hopelessly behind with the times, and Youtube comments suddenly became a legitimate channel of political expression while I wasn't looking, but I can't really bring myself to take them seriously.

As for the video itself, I have mixed feelings. I think I can basically understand the point she's trying to make, and I'm pretty sure I agree with it. Women in video games need rescuing WAY too often, and that probably says some things about our society. At the same time, I think her voice is annoying and that the videos are visually bland. And some specific things she says just sound like utter nonsense. Violent revenge narratives are about losing and then questing to regain your masculinity? Is she saying that revenge is inherently masculine behaviour, or that video games are implying that it is, or something else entirely? Are we even using the same definition of "masculinity"? ???

If you think I'm cherry picking, just ... read the comments from that video.
Why would I read the comments? Why would anyone read the comments? ._.

Does this video work for anyone else? It does for me.

Curses / Re: Keeping old prison sentences for escapees.
« on: May 28, 2013, 05:04:07 pm »
I figure the three months is supposed to represent a mandatory wait while the wheels of bureaucracy turn and the Conservatives execute all the prisoners ahead of your guy in the execution queue, and thus cannot really be hurried. At C+ death penalty, I could see the liberal getting summarily executed with no wait (or even a trial), but otherwise I think it should reset the death row counter back to three months. Maybe there should also be a chance to get the death sentence downgraded to imprisonment if the laws have become more liberal in the meantime. At L+, the death penalty is obviously abolished, and I think the game is already supposed to cancel pending executions when that happens.

As for escaping prison always resulting in a life sentence, I think that was mainly a hack to keep people from completely cleaning their criminal records by escaping prison and then lawyering themselves free of the escape charge. Since that is no longer an issue, it should probably be toned down. I don't think escaping prison is a crime at all in some jurisdictions, provided you don't break any other laws while breaking out.

I think Kat was just too stunned to say no.   :P  She doesn't want to hurt Paz's feelings.
Noooo! Why would you say that? :(
They are going to move away and live with each other until the end of time, happily ever after.
Yes, that is how teen romance works every time.

DF Suggestions / Re: Adventurer visiting your Dwarf Fortress.
« on: May 25, 2013, 04:33:56 pm »
This already happens, in a fashion. A dwarven adventurer retired in a dwarven fortress can come as a migrant to a player-controlled dwarven fortress of the same civilization, much as any historical figure. It'd be nice if adventurers went on adventuring after they retire, though. Now they just sit on their assess unless a dwarven fortress picks them to arbitrarily move halfway across the world. Well, you might not always want it to happen. When I retire an adventurer, I kind of assume that he'll still be around in ten years once my latest fortress crumbles. Although it might be cool for him to show up somewhere else, having grown more powerful, it would be kind of a downer if he turned up dead or missing both his legs.

Yeah, there's basically no way that Tom isn't going to do an abrupt perspective change or a time skip or something.

Interesting premise. Always been a fan of anatomy/medical art and to a lesser extent, anthropological art.

So...hows about a fox? A Kitsune even? Mythology counts, right? :3

Yeah, mythology counts. :3

I kind of half-assed several things here, but bear with me.

Invent a neon-coloured wolf-man with a tragic backstory and tell us all about it.
This already exists.  x3
Yeah, I've seen that image before. That's pretty much the ULTIMATE SPARKLEDOG right there. :P

Also, backstory needed? Because the art is amazing enough as it is.

Backstory's a plus. Really, your fursona doesn't need one, but if you can write at least a sentence or two of general information on it, or maybe just a few bullet points, that instantly makes it more personable.

There have been a few times I've attempted to draw the ever elusive tigerman mayor. Maybe now I'll actually be motivated to finish one now that there's a thread for it.
Oh, please do. DF animal people have the extra benefit of coming with all the historical data the game stores on them. :3

MAGNIFICENT! That happy face! Dem pincers! :D
What kind of skin does an apparent half-dog half-lobster half-human have, though? Fur or carapace?

Just get clarity and cTele, you wimp. :D Uncontrolled shouting is annoying too, but nowhere near as crippling as the ones you can suppress.

This is great.  All hail the new slimesona.
I'm glad you like it. :3

Mantis. I need a mantis fursona. He wears a fedora.
Spoiler: MS Paint-ish mantis (click to show/hide)

You were first, so consider this fan art. :3 I like the sunglasses in your version, as well as the background. The drawing meshes with the photo surprisingly well.

Can I still role with a Star nosed mole?
Your art style is awesome!

Thank you! :3 Here is your star nosed mole:

I'm pretty sure that's the most tentacles I've ever seen on a mammal. Nature is crazy. ._.

Here's the one I've got done so far, requested by Leafsnail:

As it turns out, snails are HARD. :(

I made a fursona a few years back, as a joke. Since then, I have occasionally introduced myself as a furry, just to see how people react. But am I really a furry? Does there still remain some thin veneer of irony separating me from true furries, as a Victorian-era explorer living among natives is separated from the noble savages by his self-righteous sense of superiority? Clearly, it is time to dive deeper into this anthropomorphic rabbit hole, but I cannot do it alone. In the interest of SCIENCE and FUN, I invite EVERYONE to become a furry. Create yourself a fursona. Pour your soul into a half-animal avatar of yourself, like a weblich crafting an anthropomorphic phylactery. Invent a neon-coloured wolf-man with a tragic backstory and tell us all about it.

To start with, this is my fur chitinsona:

He is a weaver ant and this is him being completely overwhelmed with the joy of being a furry. Chitiny. Whatever. He lives in a giant tower of silk and wood with thousands of other weaver ant people, and his ultimate goal in life is to serve the Hive in whatever manner best benefits it.

I also have a pending promise to draw three people's fursonas if they give me an animal to start with. The submissions I got were "snails", "star nosed mole" and "neanderthals". While trying to figure out what a half-human half-neanderthal would look like might be an interesting paleobiological exercise, I don't think they count, so we've still got one open. Furthermore, to celebrate this BRAVE NEW THREAD I'm going to do two more in addition to the one for a grand total of THREE STILL TO GO! Tell me your favourite animal, and don't be afraid to invent new animals or combine existing animals into horrifying chimeras. Also feel free to provide some more detailed physical description. I'll do my best to follow your capricious instructions.

For the COMPLETE EXPERIENCE, you should also provide a name, a personality, a backstory and so on. List some "likes" and "dislikes". Hell, make it a whole SETTING, with with detailed notes on various cultures and locations. Whatever detail you feel like going into.

Once I'm no longer contractually obligated to draw people furries, I'll probably keep doing it at least sometimes. Especially if you describe yours really well. Everyone else is also invited to draw pictures of fursonas posted here, their own or other people's, as long as they keep in mind that the Forum Guidelines aren't really guidelines as much as they are absolute, inviolate rules. If you do something foolish, the next DF release is postponed by the amount of time it takes Toady One to deal with it.

With that in mind, let's discover our inner furries! :D

General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Furries (2)
« on: May 16, 2013, 06:21:28 pm »
Debating the meanings of words is so dull when you can EXPLORE the meanings of words! Let's all FIND what it means to be a furry! TOGETHER! It's the scientific method! :D

This is my fur chitinsona:

He is a weaver ant and this is him being completely overwhelmed with the joy of being a furry. Chitiny. Whatever.

I will draw fursonas for next three people who do not identify as "furries" but agree to tell me their favourite animals. If no one volunteers, I'll just start enfurrying people at random, substituting client-provided taxonomic data with wild guessing.

Curses / Re: LCS 4.07.0 Download (Sneak Attacks, April 2013)
« on: May 12, 2013, 04:40:07 pm »
I think seducing high-level conservatives SHOULD be insanely difficult. It gives you a powerful sleeper with high heart and the ability to recruit more members. If you want semi-reliable results in a reasonable amount of time, you have to kidnap and brainwash. Or use a guitar squad. Nothing can stand before the power of ROCK.
