No power?
Quick, try to MacGyver a reactor wih smoke detectors!

In retrospect, this was probably a very audience to introduce that idea to.  I'd be surprised if at least one of you doesn't try to actually build that thing.

Also, I'm the unluckiest man in the world, and pretty lazy.  Results done, typing up paragraphs, done tonight, yada yada ya.

One thing you can't tell from reading through the archives in one sitting is that the last 20 or 30 strips cover about two years.  It's yet another of the Silver Age websites now passing into history.  I guess it's still technically alive though, 259 being one the funniest strips of any comic.

By the way, I met Scott Ramsoomair at A-Kon 18 back in '07.  Timid guy.  This was quite apt:

One of the better ideas I heard was to combine them into an actual construction.  Wood or metal (or stone) frame, and cloth bedding.

So no.

To answer the OP, it was something of a game balance decision by Toady that beds could only be made of wood, so you'd have to obtain wood to house your dwarves.  This was a little more important in the early versions of DF where underground treefarming was near universal.  It's certainly not a design decision everyone agrees with, and Toady hasn't said anything about it, so who know what he thinks.

Check how long ago they conquered the retreat.  It may have been so recent that they haven't built anything yet.

Or maybe it's that the worldgen activities don't have a lot of direct implementation yet.

You have it completely wrong.

Those are Elven retreats the Dwarves conquered.  The fey-folk now live like dogs, butchering for their food and hacking down trees to appease their bearded overlords, cursing every moment of their immortality.

Also, a Dwarven civ named Urist.  Hur hur hur.

I am once again so very glad to have chosen Hawkwood.  Delphi is three jumps distant from the row you've all jumped into right out of the gate, so I've time to consolidate myself.  With any luck at all, I'll be constructing my own capital ships in the near future.

I'm not sure why I'm advertising all this.  At any rate, I've had my look at Criticorum, and it's obvious that my other concerns will occupy me enough for now.  Consider me a neutral observer in this war for the time being.

If you've ever worked with duct tape, you'll know that any amount of sand will instantly turn the tape into papery straps.

Well, that fucking sucked.

Lines went down all over my neighborhood last night for some reason.  Didn't have power until this morning, and the cable was just reconnected.  So, a whole day shot and no update yet.  Sorry folks, still coming soon.

Nobody wants to read several retellings of seven dwarves starting a fortress?  The problem with reviewing succession/community game writing is that, especially for the introduction, they're all just (increasingly minute) variations on the exact same story.

Sorry about all the delays this week, as I've made soppingly clear, I've been a little distracted.  At any rate, I'll be finishing off some bitmaps to send to PTTG, then I'll start on the turn.  I won't be finished until after work, so don't expect it until tomorrow morning.

And thanks for the words guys.
