Has anyone else had this problem?  I was never able to solve it and it still happens for me on the Steam release.

Some goblins showed up to parley, but rather than wait for my response they immediately rushed into my fort to do battle.  Treacherous bastards!  Previously, I had used the time they took to wait for my response to lock them outside for the rest of the season.  They must have gotten savvy

It made no difference though; they met their ends on dwarven steel.

In the adventure mode graphics update, punching creatures in the stomach repeatedly gradually  improves their sprites until they look absolutely SICK

Hello Toady and thanks for this wonderful game.  I have been wondering if there was any word on a Mac release for the Steam version?

My adventurer found a civilized Giant by the name of Ala Goldesteemed in an old ruin. He had become a priest at some point and stopped his rampaging.  He had clothes (normally semi megabeasts don’t) and his socks alone weighed 30 urists, which he wore along side dozens of artifacts he had accumulated over the years.  He was a very friendly fellow and not at all hostile.  I tried to make him join the party but he refused because of his priestly duties.  I had no idea monsters like him could join civilization

Hunters shouldn’t stop at hunting animals.  They should fire bolts at trees, walls, and discarded clothing too.

Zuglar Wadedgilt, one of the original seven, legendary miner, jeweler, and engraver, finally succumbed to the rage which had been brewing inside of him since the death of his friend twenty years before.  He threw a tantrum and punched our Chief Weaver Ushrir in the neck so hard it broke her spine, killing her instantly.  The justice system had overlooked his previous tantrums, but murder?  This could no longer stand!  He was sentenced to a beating by Mûthkat, militia captain and close friend of the deceased, who killed him in the same way he killed Ushrir.  A very tragic day in Obotugosh.

Ushrir was the third of our chief weavers to die in this fortress; the other two had died of failed moods involving hard-to-obtain types of cloth.  Factor in how weirdly casualty-free this fort has been so far and it becomes strange that so many of our dead are master weavers.

In another fort, I recently learned that the experiment Athrab's Eyes which accompany every siege can launch an extract across the map which causes your skin to fall off and you to die.  Fun.  I will be dressing everyone in hazmat suits.

Bay12 should release a worker-placement game where you put dwarf meeples on certain parts of the board to perform tasks, but after every turn the entire board is shaken, flipped, and thrown across the room, knocking he dwarves off of the board to simulate them not doing those things

This is really helpful.  I'll test this in a bit and see if it works.

I have been having this same exact problem as this thread from a year ago.  I am using the same 1x3 design for lag-less pumps stacks, moving magma up about a hundred z-levels.  Having temperature on/off makes no difference for my FPS, which is good.  The bad news is that when the pumps are moving magma, I get <1 FPS in my otherwise smoothly running fort.

I'm hesitant to rebuild my pump stack because evidently this didn't help the OP.  I have tried running it on a different, older computer too and that had no effect.  In this same fort I've been able to drain the ocean into the magma sea while still getting more frames per second than I do when the magma pump is running!  I am at a loss for what to do: I need a lot of magma for this project.  Does anyone have any advice?

This is what it looks like:

Does the error log say anything curious ?

The error log says
*** Error(s) finalizing creature FELLOW
Unrecognized Color Token: 1
Unrecognized Color Token: 1
Unrecognized Color Token: 1
Unrecognized Color Token: 1
Unrecognized Color Token: 1
Unrecognized Color Token: 1

My creature is just a copy-paste human with a different creature tile token, so that it's supposed to have an "n" instead of a "u", but instead it has nothing.

Hungry heads that catch on fire should be renamed to 'combustible heads'.

I spawned some cats in arena mode and they sort of just stood around, not exploring much at all.  If there is a token that controls how cats work, I think you're right.

What I often do, is copy an existing creature until I got it right.

Have you had this problem too?

I have been trying to learn modding for Dwarf Fortress.  I'm on .47.05 still, and whenever I add a new creature said creature in the object testing arena has no tile.  Everything else about them seems to work, but their icon is blank.

I do something like this:

[CREATURE:FELL_OW]
[CREATURE_TILE:'n'][COLOR:3:0:0]
[CREATURE_SOLDIER_TILE:164]

and instead of an n there is just a blank, black tile where they are standing.  Is this a common issue for beginners, and what am I doing wrong?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Gold is garbage

You can build a pretty heavy empire out of it though.

As of now, before the economics update and with the arbitrary prices for everything, gold is mainly useful as a metal as valuable as steel but not quite so costly to make, and just a bit of quality gold furniture in a dwarf's room can really make their month.  I think that its mass makes it useful in artifact weapons and armor too.

In short, don't atom-smash all of your ingots.  Dwarves still think that it's pretty
