Night Creatures.... What about slayers that you mentioned? Maybe something like Witchers?

Probably your general Hunter theme character. You know, Van Helsing, Exorcists, Task Force: Valkyrie, Ordo Malleus, etc. Witchers would fall under that scope too I reckon.

So White Wolf's Exalted setting is actually a pretty good measure of the Chinese folklore religion?

Easily I give the links so even if you can't read it, you can still click the little speaker in the web page, and hear the sounds of it.

Well, I meant through a written medium, though that's an excellent work around.

We as Chinese even till day, some still believe that we have 7 'souls'(魂) 6 'ghosts'(魄) (only lose translation, there are no western concepts actually represent them), or 3 souls 7 ghosts in every one of us, and each one of them can separate from your body at any time, and they can be captured by others too.

Can you write out the chinese words phonetically? Some people may be familiar with them from reading asian literature.

The best he can do is a form of pinyin, though I dunno how he'd make the tones.

1.) IF (P) something does not exist THEN (Q)it will not interact with our universe

2.) A hypothetical paralell universe that does not interact with our universe will by definition (Q)not interact with our universe

3.) Said hypothetical paralell universe that (Q) does not interact with our universe (P)does not/cannot exist

His argument may be better described as:
If we cannot observe something, Then we cannot knowingly interact with it.
If we cannot knowingly interact with something, Then it effectively doesn't exist (as far as we know)

Look at my face. This is my not caring face.

But I can't see your face...

Point taken though.

Right from a dictionary.

a : a disbelief in the existence of deity
b : the doctrine that there is no deity

So no, a agnostic is not a atheist. (Which happens to be why we have two words.)

Please see the thread MetalSlimeHunt linked to. "The Dictionary" is a rather poor way of understanding complex philosophical concepts.

Not the least reason being that practically nobody is one of these "Strong Atheists" that some theists like to conjure up to prove that Atheists are just as religious as they are. And yes, that last bit is just a tad confusing. It's basically a semantic game meant to establish a strawman opponent and then claim victory over all those zealot Atheists because they couldn't prove that Undetectable Being X doesn't actually exist.

I am not, and I am more interested in the practical aspect of religions as their functionally in society and their internal logic to form a working system of ideology. And I am not Christian, not Atheist, not even westerners, and I like TEXT WALL!!!

You're one of those who attempt to bring something new to the table. I was referring to how these threads always tend to return to the exact same arguments, time and time again.

Also, evolutionary biology is a well developed scientific field with solid roots in statistics and research.  If you're going to discount all of it just like that, you'd better provide better than "because I said so."

If this is a response to when I cautioned against claims from Evolutionary Psychology, then I'll just point you to the Wikipedia Page. I'm warning people to be very skeptical due to frequent abuses by those in the field.

Edit: The last one is basically going in circles about the burden of proof again.

The longer a Religious thread continues, the probability of repetition due to somebody ignoring previous debate approaches 100%.

I think the idea we can just engineer away any and all difference is a little bigoted too. That was the point of my post.

What differences? Between people? You're the one who seems to think males and females just naturally want to do X more than Y because of their gender.

Quote
I don't see any females arguing that they're identical to a male. I don't think they'd want to be.

Who thinks like this? Do you seriously look at something and say to yourself: "I don't want to do this, because it's FEMALE/MALE thing, but I only do <OPPOSITE GENDER> things"? Or are you more concerned by how you'll be regarded by society? Because I know the latter happens all the time.

Quote
I would think the existence of transgenders actually shows that there's quite a biological influence on personality. You're not explaining how pure socialization causes this.

I would think that since you're arguing for personality differences based on sexual dimorphism, it topples your argument when something as simple as how comfortable one feels in a certain body type isn't determined by biological gender.

Quote
After all isn't gender identity just social programming according to the theory?

I'm not sure what "The Theory" is, but you aren't been building a strong case for why it would be something like sexual dimorphism instead. There probably are some psychological traits of ours that arise due to biology but that doesn't necessarily mean they favor a particular gender more than the other. My overreaching point is that personality is sufficiently complex that you lack any solid basis by which to make claims of gendered personality.

Pascal's Wager.

Because you never know.

Reverse Pascal's Wager.

Because you never know if Pascal's God hates brown-nosers.

Here's one of my key objections to the idea that males/females are 100% interchangeable:-
...
I think everyone will find this logic offensive to dignity and common sense.

Your logic? Indeed. You don't even seem to consider the differences in personality between individuals and ascribe a false male/female dichotomy to aspects of identity. There has yet to be any real evidence of psychological differences between genders that aren't somehow influenced by their culture. Any studies trying to prove a gender difference, especially those of Evolutionary Psychology, tend to have some serious flaws in their methodology. It might be easier for you to ignore the broad range of personalities within each particular gender and then assign certain behaviors as "male" or "female", based upon what you see in the society around you, but you haven't even begun to wrap your mind around the underlying reasons. Your observation may not even be correct when examined objectively instead of through the tinted glasses of confirmation bias.

The only thing (about personality) male or female seems to influence is what kind of body one feels comfortable in and, due to transgenders, not even that is entirely true. Until we have serious evidence that people's minds are shaped more by their sexually dimorphic characteristics than their environment, any assumption about the causes of perceived personality difference is presumptuous and a little bit bigoted.

I always love listening to these.

I've got a question though. When Tarn was talking about how your entire fortress could become werebeasts I wondered about the Fortress-born infants. Would they inherit the were-trait of one or both parents? I don't recall that being covered in the talks or dev log.

Instead of coming up with hypothesis about why girls don't like Dwarf Fortress, one might be better served by asking those of the double X who don't find it interesting why they aren't into it. Or even those girls that do like Dwarf Fortress, and whom might have experience with same-gendered friends commenting about their interest in the game, could give this thread input from their experiences and see if they match up with experiences of guys whose same-gendered friends are turned off by the game.

Sunlight bursts into the bottom of your hole when you push open the door. After a momentary blindness, you look around in amazement. The doors opened into what appears to be an entire world. You are on top some kind of cliff or mountain overlooking a lush but frighteningly primeval jungle. The sound of a waterfall is close-by, but you cannot place its location. You see a mountain path that leads down into the jungle, and something along its course which vaguely looks like a small tribal village. Rising directly across from you on the other side of the jungle valley is a dawning sun.

You are a Swiftleaper, a kind of desert reptilian humanoid known for its speed and jumping ability. Making use of your natural abilities, your chosen profession is that of a desert courier who delivers important messages and supplies across the Great Wastes which separates most habitable settlements. You were bounding across the desert on a mission when you abruptly landed crashed into an unforeseen hole. Now one of your legs are broken, the rest of you is battered and bruised, you are trapped in what appears to be an ancient ruin of some sort, and to top it all off, you can't locate the package you were delivering. It's times like these that make you reconsider your career choice.

There are three doors surrounding you. One has the symbol of the sun on it, the second has the symbol of a crescent moon, and the last has a symbol that looks like the face of a demon. Besides the package you were carrying, you traveled with some basic medical supplies, a scimitar for protection, a bullwhip, a map of the desert, and enough water to survive a week (with rationing).

If mana isn't a problem currently, let's have II'VILLE practice some of her magic while the Imp is off doing the scouting. Make II'VILLE anxious about her recent thoughts of the Undead. What if some are around right now?! Better cast Detect Undead.

EDIT: Is this thread dead? It has been a while since the last update. I hope I'm not responsible...
