General Discussion / Re: What's your worst pick-up line?
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:46:58 am »
I always liked:
"Nice shirt! It would actually look pretty good on my bedroom floor!"

And the worst one, that isnt actually nauseating per se:
"Was your father a thief? Because it looks as if he stole the stars from the sky and put them in your eyes."
That one gives me the cramps, seriously. But what's even worse, I know there is a girl, and maybe even a guy out there, and they'd fall for that line. I shudder when I imagine those people.

edit:
and on a somewhat related note: isnt it sad and funny at the same time how humans manage to complicate mating?
I mean, how often do you meet somebody you can talk to, completely clearly, about your intentions? My ideal pick up is comparable to negotiating, ala "I like this and that, how about you, can we meet somewhere in the middle?"

I consider myself lucky whenever I find one of those straightforward girls.

And by the way, I think I used the same (starting) line on all of them, which was "Hi, my name is Puck, who are you?" and the rest is just conversation.

Hmmm, my favourite servers used to lie about player count, but it seems they dont, anymore, I thought valve found a way to fix it...

Unique mobs like Sigmund... they aren't always exactly the same, are they? At least from their drops I would guess their equipment is somewhat randomized (or am I comparing drops from different versions?).

Another thing.. am I hallucinating or aren't starting stats not randomized anymore? Which I think is a good idea, because seriously, what the fuck was up with that :D

General Discussion / Re: Nomic: A game of Self Amendment

Quote from: Peter Suber (the creator of Nomic)
Nomic is a game in which changing the rules is a move. In that respect it differs from almost every other game.
Sounds a bit like Calvinball.

General Discussion / Re: What are your fears/phobias?

A good way to stop worrying about spiders probably is to think about what stuff they eat. I rather have a few spiders in my apartment in the summer months than... you know, all those insects.

And where I am from the worst spiders you can encounter, even in specialized stores, arent really dangerous. I still wouldnt touch a friggin tarantula, because EWWWW, but hey. There is nothing to be scared of.

DA:O is no different than NWN2 in that respect.
I have NWN2 right here, but havent played it yet... but I'm pretty sure you cannot set up rules for your party members AI.

Or can you?

It's funny how you guys discuss all those details about Dragon Age and it's way of telling a "story" and whatnot.

DA:O was about tuning your AI til the game would beat itself on the hardest level, the rest is just filler to give you time to think about it.

And I heard there are other games that do this better, so why bother...

Other Games / Re: Ultima Online Emulator-Anyone playing?
« on: July 14, 2010, 05:57:18 pm »
Maybe I'll get to it in the winter, again. But right now, somebody else has to do it ;)

Don't shy away from the dates on the front page. Code gets updated, dates listing last update dont :D

Best way to get some help is to register on their forums and hang around the IRC chat. New forum accounts seem to lure the active coders to IRC ;)

Got it with

"Your mom"

edit: Second person it didnt guess was Ron Jeremy. Maybe if I opened a wiki page about him it'd work better, but seriously, I should be allowed a _FEW_ "I dont know"s.
After 60 Questions, 2 of which already were "pornstar?" and "moustache?" it didnt get it. I mean, come on, ron jeremy!

www.uox3.org

pretty easy to set up and shape your own world ;)

I hate the other emulators :( And I'm not sure I want to play on an existing shard...

"Taranis"...

"Taran" is russian for "ramming". I suppose that would be a viable strategy. :P

I'm pretty sure they were aiming at
Quote from: Wikipedia
In Celtic mythology Taranis was the god of thunder worshipped in Hispania and mentioned, along with Esus and Toutatis, by the Roman poet Lucan in his epic poem Pharsalia  as a Celtic deity to whom sacrificial offerings were made.[1]  He was associated, as was the cyclops Brontes  (‘thunder’) in Greek mythology, with the wheel and may have received human sacrifices.

The human sacrifice part seems fitting. Even if it doesn't go all skynet on our asses...

I'll just lie down and hope I'm on a different tectonic plate than all those go-getters in here.

Altough "hoping" is such a strong word, it's really more like "being fairly indifferent".
